Data Snapshot: What Do Employees Most Want Their Employers to Provide?

What reasonable requests do employees have of their employers? Beyond a simple paycheck, most of us in the current culture look at our jobs as something that will enrich us in other ways, especially in terms of professional development. We want to end up with more skills than we started with. In fact, of all potential perks offered by our respondents’ employers, career training was the most desired addition. Other options offered via the multiple choice question were PTO, a fun culture, a retirement contribution, and decision making.

This info comes from the latest reading of an ongoing study by Comparably. More than 10,000 repondents have repiled to the question.

Career training was the overall winning answer, with PTO perhaps surprisingly bringing up the rear. The other three answers were chosen often enough to be considered notable also-rans.

When looked at through the lens of gender, answers lined up with the average. Independent of each other, men and women were within a few points of the overall average for all answers.

The different ethnic groups also responded similarly. Career training won more narrowly for African-Americans (22%) and the Hispanic or Latino segment (26%). Against the average, African-American employees were also more interested in PTO than in any sort of retirement contribution.
