Globant has been a company with a global mindset since its inception, and in the last few years, we embraced a hybrid work model where our globers have a lot of flexibility on where they want to work from. Globers are by definition global citizens who enjoy working with people from different countries, cultures, and communities, and being part of a multicultural workforce means that we are more diverse and can react and innovate faster than other companies.
How do you manage culture across a global workforce?
Culture is one of the most essential aspects of Globant. To manage culture and ensure that every glober is connected to their peers, we use our own SaaS culture platform, StarMeUp; a platform that brings together globers in fun ways, to keep them engaged and feel recognized. Through StarMeUp every glober can make the invisible work visible and share fun moments, projects, and life experiences, enhancing and connecting people around the globe. We also have a team of Cultural Ambassadors that work tirelessly to bring the Globant culture to every corner of the world and to each new site we open, but they also bring back learnings and add to the overall culture so that it keeps evolving.

At Trustwave, our global remote workforce benefits both our business capabilities and our people’s wellbeing as we work to defend against the devastating impact of cyberattacks. Cyberthreats can come from anywhere at any time—bad actors are everywhere, and they don’t work normal business hours—and our global remote workforce allows us to use a “follow the sun” model to serve clients in 86 countries.
Our employees also benefit from being able to work remotely: Our Moments That Matter flexible workplace philosophy has helped bolster employee engagement and retention and empowered people to take charge of their well-being. Or, as an anonymous employee said in our most recent engagement survey, “Having the ability to work remotely has not only helped me to improve my productivity, but it has lowered my stress, improved my work/life balance, and allowed for extra time for improving my skillset. I feel more energized and satisfied from the work I am doing.”
How do you manage culture across a global workforce?
Our Senior Leadership Team members play an essential role in upholding our culture, consistently modeling our values (Transparency, Respect, Unity, Service, Transformation) and using them as a guide for decision-making across our different teams and regions. And it helps that our leaders are open and accessible—up to and including the C-suite—so employees at every level are exposed to cultural behaviors first-hand.
Our Moments That Matter flexible workplace philosophy also emphasizes the importance of engaging with colleagues face-to-face, calling for people to gather together for times of Collaboration, Creation, Connection and Celebration. So even though many of our people choose to work remotely, we also have thoughtful, intentional opportunities to build culture and community in person.

What has your company discovered about the benefits of a global workforce over the last few years?
At Calix, we believe that remote work is the future because innovation knows no bounds. We are proud to have been named the #1 Most Inspiring Workplace in America, and we attribute much of our success to our work-from-anywhere environment. Being a remote first company, even prior to the pandemic, has been equally beneficial to the Company, as well as the Calix team.
The work from anywhere environment has enabled us to recruit top talent and strengthen the diversity of our skill sets. Our remote culture aligns with our core value of promoting diversity of thought within our organization. Prioritizing diversity promotes innovation and thought leadership, fosters growth and learning, and creates opportunities for employees that they may not have in their local communities.
Employee feedback also suggests that the work-from-anywhere model also appeals to today’s workforce. Calix was named a Best Place to Work for Millennials in 2022 by Fortune, and our remote model is especially beneficial for employees who require a flexible work environment to better manage personal needs.
How do you manage culture across a global workforce
As a global company, we ensure that all our actions, regardless of region, align with Calix values. At the same time, it is especially important for us to be cognizant of cultural differences across our organization. To accomplish this, we leverage our Learning and Development programs, facilitating trainings on distributed leadership, unconscious bias, and cultural sensitivity. We have also refined and relaunched our cultural pillars and our leadership competencies as our company has grown and scaled to reflect the diversity within our organization. When creating and launching culture initiatives, our goal is to create a sense of unity. We accomplish this by leveraging our Affinity Groups and Meetup teams. We also coordinate global social impact initiatives, both virtual and in-person, during Volunteer Month and our Season of Giving.

Over the past decade, Learning A-Z has seen that having a global workforce benefits our purpose-driven culture, which is centered around inspiring curiosity, ensuring comprehension, and instilling the joy of learning for students. Our culture transcends geographical boundaries, allowing us to support employees, customers and users in balancing global and local cultural needs.
To generate a unified culture throughout the organization, we ensure our “why” remains at the heart of everything we do. We establish formal communication structures and significant informal channels to facilitate a shared conversation among all participants about our objectives and their contributions to them. Additionally, we promote strong connections across internal teams beyond just immediate teammates, enabling a sense of community and collaboration across different countries and regions.

For over a decade, we have successfully operated in this Remote First structure. From the earliest days, we sought the best regional leaders in the territories and invited them to share their insights and expertise, fostering collaboration and inclusivity. By leveraging our purpose to inspire curiosity and instill the joy of learning, we continue to drive our culture beyond physical office spaces. Open communication channels and connecting employees beyond their line managers play a vital role in forming a sense of community. The challenges include navigating economic differences, ensuring consistent communication, and addressing training needs for cross-cultural awareness. By empowering our global teams and trusting them to make customer-focused decisions, we enjoy the benefits of a united global workforce.
