Here’s something that may surprise you: people tend to be more devoted to their colleagues than their higher ups.
Nearly 40% of workers in the tech industry say their loyalty rests with their coworkers, first and foremost, according to data from Comparably. The next most popular response was “boss or manager,” with 26% of the vote. People generally felt the least loyal to their direct reports (10%).

The data revealed an interesting distinction about women in tech. While men overwhelmingly chose their coworkers (40%) over their managers (24%), women ranked the two groups equally (36% chose coworkers and 34% chose their managers).

This loyalty to the boss appeared unique to women in tech; women in all other industries were far more likely to choose coworkers over managers (44% vs. 29%).

The results come from a May 11th reading of an ongoing query on Comparably that has garnered responses from more than 500 workers.
