Half of Workers in Tech Still Take an Hour or More for Lunch

Inhaling a sandwich at your desk might be *your* norm, but it’s not *the* norm.

In fact, 53% percent of workers in tech say they generally take an hour or more for lunch, according to the latest results of an ongoing query by Comparably.

Just 1 in 5 workers eats lunch at their desk, according to the results.

The longest and shortest lunches

Workers in some departments at tech companies showed a tendency for longer lunches than others — 59% of people in design and 56% of people in communications said they take lunch for an hour or more.

Workers in product and operations were most likely to say they eat lunch at their desk (27%).

The latest reading is as of June 27 and involves the responses of more than 10,000 workers.

Long lunches are for the young

Fifty-eight percent of workers 18 to 25 and 26 to 30 take an hour or more for lunch — the longest of any age group. Only 14% and 17%, respectively, stay at their desks for lunch.
