Bitcoin prices plunged this week, fanning fears about whether cryptocurrency is more than just a passing fad. And indeed, skepticism around digital currency seems to be a popular view these days — according to the latest reading of an ongoing query by Comparably, 44% of people say they feel cryptocurrency is a scam. More than 1,000 people, predominantly across the tech sector, participated in the survey.
Women are more skeptical than men about crypto
Forty-six percent of women say they think cryptocurrency is a scam compared to 41% of men.

The oldest workers aren’t sold
Just over 50% of people were convinced that cryptocurrency is a scam, the highest rate of any age group. People in the age range of 31 to 35 were most convinced, with only 33% of them saying they believe cryptocurrency is a scam.

Operations least confident in crypto; executives and engineers most confident
From a department perspective, people in operations were most skeptical of cryptocurrency, with 52% saying it’s a scam. People in admin roles were close behind, at 50%. People in executive roles were on the other end of the spectrum, at 31%, followed next by engineers, at 39%.
