We’re living in a time of great technological change, but that hasn’t changed the way people get interviews.
According to the latest reading of an ongoing query by Comparably, 34% of people say they got their first interview for their current job by applying online and 26% say they got it through a referral. The next most popular ways were “recruiter” (18%), “other” (13%) and “networking” (9%).
More than 1,000 people responded to the query.

After age 40
While both “applied online” and “referral” were the most popular answers for all age groups, it appears workers 40 and up are slightly more likely to get a referral than to apply online. Sampling below:

Men vs. women
There were no major differences seen in the way men and women land interviews, though women were slightly more likely to say they applied online and less likely to say they went through a recruiter.
