What soft skill has been most instrumental in helping your career? For 1 in 3 people, the answer is persistence.

Indeed, 33% of respondents in an ongoing query by Comparably chose persistence more than any other soft skill. The other options were humility, likability, empathy and logic.

Men vs. women

From a gender perspective, both men and women chose persistence as their top skill, followed next by likability. They deviated a bit when it came to the role of empathy and humility: men ranked empathy their least popular choice while women ranked humility their least popular choice.

More people choose persistence with age

Persistence was the top-ranked skill for every age group, though it commanded a slightly larger percentage of responses among people in older age groups. For example, 30% of people 18 to 25 chose persistence vs. 37% of people 51 to 55.
