Work Burnout Has Little to Do With Age

It may seem logical that the older you are, the more likely you are to feel burnt-out at work. That’s not the case.

Rates of burnout are nearly the same for workers of nearly every age, according to the latest reading of an ongoing query by Comparably. More than 10,000 workers across the technology industry responded.

The retirement boost?

Rates of burnout hovered between 48% and 49% for workers in every age group except those nearing retirement — workers 51 to 55 averaged a rate of 45%.

Women are more affected

Forty-nine percent of women say they are burnt out at work compared with 5% of men. Women in marketing and business development reported the highest rates of burnout (59 and 56%, respectively; for men, workers in design showed the highest rates of burnout (54%).
