Survey: Working on Vacation Is a Bigger Problem for Gen Z Than Any Other Age Group

While a significant percentage of all people feel that their boss expects them to work on vacation, the rate was highest among 18- to 25-year-olds.

Thirty-five percent of people 18 to 25 say their bosses expect them to work while they’re on vacation, according to the latest reading of an ongoing survey by Comparably. The rate fell from there, hitting a low of 28% among those 51 to 55.

Some departments have it worse than others

HR, engineering and customer support were least likely to say they are expected to work on vacation (23%, 25%, and 27%, respectively). Business development, executive, and legal were most likely to say they are expected to work on vacation (44%, 44%, and 41%, respectively).

An even split between men and women

Women and men were equally as likely to say that their boss expects them to work while they’re on vacation.
