In 2013, Bram and Brian gave up their jobs at 3D Systems to bring 3D printing to the masses. The idea was simple: ‘connect 3D Printing Hubs with people who need something printed’.
Back in 2009 Bram and Brian had both written theses on the impact and opportunities of 3D printing while
at university, and joined 3D Systems together as graduates where they spent four years learning everything from how to build a 3D printer, to the power of the apps pushing the ecosystem forward. In September, just six months after leaving their fulltime jobs, the service launched globally signing up more than 1,000 printers in it’s first year. The combination of marketplace model, international traction and the founders’ expertise in 3D Print- ing attracted the first round of $1M seed funding in 2013.
Using these funds the team quickly expanded in size, global footprint and parts printed. Follow on funding in 2014 and 2016 has brought the total amount capital raised to $12.5M allowing the team to grow to 50 people.
Since it’s inception 3D Hubs has printed over 1,000,000 parts and it has suppliers in over 160 countries.
