  • What is Pro and Adobe?

500px has partnered with Adobe to incorporate the Adobe CC Photography Plan as a bundled subscription, Pro and Adobe. It includes:

    Adobe

    Purchase Now

How will I receive my Adobe CC activation key?

Upon purchasing the Pro and Adobe subscription, you will receive the activation key and instructions to the email on your 500px account. It is also located in your account settings.

Where do I redeem the Adobe CC code?

You can redeem the code here: https://creative.adobe.com/redeem

I want to upgrade to Pro and Adobe, but I am already an Adobe CC customer. What should I do?

That depends if you're a monthly or annual subscriber of Adobe CC. If youre a monthly subscriber, you should cancel your Adobe CC subscription and wait for your current month of membership to expire. Once it expires, you can apply the code you received from 500px to add 1 year of membership to your account.

If you're an annual subscriber to Adobe, you should contact Adobe first. In some cases they can refund your remaining membership, or add the code from us on to your existing account. In other cases you may need to wait for your year with them to expire before applying our code. If you attempt to redeem the code provided by 500px prior to the expiry of your existing Adobe membership, you will receive an invalid error.

I'd like a refund on my Adobe CC add-on purchase. How can I get one?

Due to the redeemable Adobe serial key, all Adobe add-ons are non-refundable. It's important to be very careful choosing your packages because of this. If an Adobe add-on is purchased, even by mistake, we will not be able to honor a refund on this service. For more information, please visit the following support article:

How can I get a refund?

I didn't receive my Adobe CC code. HELP!

If you didn't receive the code within 24 hours after upgrading with an Adobe add-on, please check your spam/junk folder. It is also located on the settings page.

What if I accidentally purchased an Adobe CC add-on for the wrong country?

You will need to create an Adobe CC account that matches the country you selected when purchasing the add-on from 500px. If you forget which country you selected, submit a request here and we'll look into it for you.

What if it says my Adobe CC code has already been redeemed?

This means your code was redeemed on an Adobe account already. Contact Adobe's support team and include the redemption code, your Adobe ID email address, and a description of the problem, and they'll be able to help.

    Can I pay monthly?

No, sorry! Pro and Adobe can only be purchased on an annual basis.

    Does Adobe automatically renew?

No. Due to the redeemable nature of the Adobe serial key, Adobe will not be included when your member renews. You will be renewed at a Pro membership level/price.

Why can't I purchase another Pro and Adobe plan?

As per our agreement with Adobe, we can only sell one instance of the Pro and Adobe plan during the accounts lifetime.

I am having problems with my Adobe CC account or my Adobe software. What should I do?

You can contact if you have any questions regarding your Adobe CC software.

  • What is Pulse?Pulse is a score out of 100 points that measureshow popular a photo is. Pulse is calculated by an algorithm, which is unique to 500px and is based on Views & Likes on your photo from the community. The Pulse algorithm was designed to promote daily exposure of new photographs and photographers. It is not necessarilya measure of photograph's quality.

Its impossible to calculate or project your own Pulse, even though it may have been possible in the past. This is because its not possible to determine the value of each users actions on your photos.

When a photo is first uploaded its Pulse is at N/A or 0, meaning that it doesn't have any activity yet. When community membersstart adding Likes, Pulse starts to grow.

All new photos will start out in Fresh, as long as they include at least 3 tags, a title and a category. Once a photo is in Fresh and reaches a Pulse over 70, a photo is then includedon the Upcoming page. With a Pulse over 80 the photo is added to the Popular page. All photos' Pulse drops after 24 hours, and again after a week.Your photo's highest achieved Pulse will be recorded and displayed on the photo page. Why did my Pulse drop suddenly? The Pulse of all new photos drops after approximately 24 hours. This is to ensure fresh photos get a chance at Popular each day. It's also possible for Pulse to drop if votes are removed from it, or voters' accounts are closed after voting for your photo. Why is my Pulse different than another photo that has similar views and votes? That's part of Pulse's secret sauce. Each vote is assigned a unique value, based on the voters' and the photographer's activity on 500px. The details of the Pulse algorithm is a trade secret, which we do not disclose in order to prevent abuse. What are Views?Views is an approximate number of visitors who have visited and looked at your photo. It counts multiple views from other users, but doesn't count views from yourself. All factors that affect the algorithm are not disclosed due to being a trade secret and to prevent abuse. Those who attempt to cheat the Pulse rating may be permanently banned from 500px.com. If you see any suspicious activity please report it to our Moderators by using these tips. For a complete list of 500px terms refer to our Terms page.

  • On July 18, 2019 500px underwent a site-wide maintenance resulting in an outage duration of approximately 10 hours. We are working as quickly as possible to ensure all features are fully operational and will be updating our Status page as we continue to resolve these issues.

    Updates to Pulse

During this update, we also made changes to the Pulse algorithm. Pulse is unique to 500px and is based on Views & Likes on your photo from the community. Each Like is assigned a unique value, based on the voters' activity on 500px.

    Why did we update Pulse

Previously, all Likes on 500px were valued equally, however, this is no longer the case. We believe your best work should be rewarded so we made this update to address users who like thousands of photos indiscriminately rather than selecting the images they truly believe to be excellent. After a certain threshold, the likes from a user will be valued slightly less.

This update will help to make Pulse scores more accurate and more closely tied to the quality of the photo.

Features that are operational with degraded performance (currently under investigation):

General site performance: You may experience occasional performance issues.

Home Feed:Users are reporting that newly uploaded photos are not appearing in their own Home Feed and are not seen by those who follow them.

Groups: We are currently experiencing slow load times.

Services:There's a number of issues related to completing Services information.

Stats:Users are reporting some incorrect data on Rankings and Insights.

    Features working as expected:

  • What is the Licensing Manager?

The Licensing Manager is a new workspace where Licensing Contributors can submit, update, organize and track all of your photo assets that you want to license through 500px and our exclusive distribution partners.

Why do I need a Licensing Manager?

The Licensing Manager simplifies the submission process for 500px Licensing Contributors. The Licensing Manager page allows 500px Licensing Contributors the ability to submit, update, organize and track all of your photo assets that you want to license through 500px and our exclusive distribution partners.

Here are a few definitions to help you interpret the information in the Licensing Manager page:

    Not submitted

Youll see that the Not submitted section is new. Not submitted consists of photos that are available on your profile in various privacy states, but have not been submitted to 500px Licensing before. Youll be able to select single or multiple photos from the Not submitted folder and submit them for Licensing directly in the Licensing Manager.

    Under review

The Under review folder is pretty straight forward. All of your photos that are pending review by our inspectors are organized in this folder. Photos in the Under review folder cannot be edited or modified until our inspectors have reviewed the photo(s).

    Changes required

The Changes required folder is where you can see your photos that have been reviewed, but soft failed because they have an issue that needs to be fixed before it re-inspection or acceptance. Click on a photo and you will see information displayed about the changes required in the right side panel. At the top of the right side panel, under Changes required, it will provide a description of the issue that needs to be addressed.

    Accepted

Under the Accepted folder, you will find all of your photos that have been accepted to Licensing. Clicking on a photo will give you additional details about the photo in the right side panel, including: where the photo is currently available for sale, if releases are attached, title, keywords, exclusivity, submission date, and other relevant information.

    Declined

The Declined folder holds your photos that have been declined for Licensing. When a photo is clicked on, details are shown in the right side panel. At the top of the right side panel, under Reason for Decline, it will give a reason why the photo was not accepted.

    Removed

Finally, the Removed folder is where you will find any photos that you have chosen to remove from Licensing or have been removed by 500px. Clicking on a photo will reveal details about the removal in the right side panel.

Is there anything that Licensing photographerswon'thave access to now?

We have removed the Photos subpage from Licensing>Settings along with the Licensing Request Form. These pages were part of our legacy Licensing submission workflow and as such, are now replaced by the Licensing Manager workflow updates.

Can I still download high resolution images of Licensing Manager content?

Yes. The ability to download your high resolution Licensing images is available in the Licensing Manager section. If you hover over a thumbnail of the image, youll see a download icon:

    Not submitted

Can I still upload watermarked versions of my images via the Photo Manager or Uploader, and then re-upload high resolution images for Licensing?

Yes. The ability to re-upload is still available for photos in the Not Submitted folder.

For your next upload, these are the specific steps you'd need to take:

    1. Upload the watermarked photo, via Uploader or the Photo Manager.2. Go to Licensing Manager 3. Navigate to the folder4. Select the same photo from this folder5. Choose the re-upload photo button (right-hand side panel)6. Upload un-watermarked version

Can I still select editorial for License Type or is it only commercial for licensing?

In the past, regardless of which license model a user selected at the time of submission, 500px photo editors would still decide which specific license model best suited the photo. That is the same today, only we've removed the option to pre-select Licensing Type to reduce confusion at the time of submission.

  • When 500px inspects a photo for inclusion in Licensing and determines that changes are required before re-reviewing or accepting, a notification is sent to the Contributor and a message is added to the Licensing Manager for a contributor to review. The changes outlined must be made before the photo can be re-submitted and re-reviewed or accepted for licensing.

To review the message in Licensing Manager, first go to the Changes required folder. Any photos that require changes will be included in this folder. Select the image, then review the message in the right hand side panel:

    http://bit.ly/500pxPR

The reasons photos are set to Changes Required:

Technical / QualityWe noticed a problem with your submission. One or more of the following technical and quality issues was identified by our inspectors:Poor Composition: Limited Commercial value due to excessive cropping, tilted horizon, and/or composition of main subject matter. This could include that the photo was taken too close or too far away from the subject or that the camera was not held level to the horizon.Chromatic Aberration: Image contains Chromatic Aberration or Colored Fringing. Fringing can be seen when viewed at 100%, usually on trees, sides of buildings, or outlines of an objectDigital Artifacts / Noise: Over-sharpening / Noise / Overuse of Noise Reduction / Compression Damage (visible pixels) in image when viewed at 100%. Common causes include shooting in low light, using a high ISO, and/or poor post-processing techniques.Visible Retouching: Quality issues from techniques used in post-production could include: poor isolation, obvious cloning/blurring, uneven or poor separation of backgroundSensor Dust or Dust Spots: Images that have visible dust spots will be rejected if you submit them for review. To avoid this, clean your sensor and lens prior to shooting, or remove the spots by cloning them out in post-production.Exposure: Image is not properly exposed. Issue includes one or more of the following: blown out highlights, overall lighting is too dark, or incorrect white balance settings. The exposure of the image detracts from the quality and/or marketability of the imageProduction Issue: Dirty production set-background, floor, or tables, or sensor dust, spots, or scratches from camera equipment. Poor styling could include hair/clothing/makeup/props.In the case of Technical / Quality issues, if possible, please make corrections and re-upload a better quality version. For more information check out this article from our Licensing Team about images for licensing and technical / quality issues: http://bit.ly/mrkt_Quality

Action to take: retouch the image as necessary to correct any technical or quality issues that may exist (e.g. remove dust spots, reduce noise, etc). Then re-upload the fixed image using the Re-upload button in the Licensing Manager.

Watermark and BordersWe noticed a problem with your submission. High resolution photos for inclusion in the 500px collection must not contain photographer watermarks, signatures, or borders. Please remove them and any other creative/personalized text before re-uploading your photo.

Action to take: remove the watermark, logo, or border from the image, then re-upload the fixed image using the Re-upload button in the Licensing Manager.

Model Release IssueWe noticed a problem with your submission. For commercial purposes, you must submit a signed model release for each recognizable person(s) in your photo, even if it's a self portrait. Although a persons face may not be visible, other details such as location, clothing, or physical characteristics often provide enough context to qualify for identifiability. Releases must be English language and fully completed (signatures, address, models date of birth, etc). Once done, please upload your commercial model release(s) in JPG or PDF format (http://bit.ly/500pxMR). For more information about working with releases check out the following links: http://bit.ly/500pxReleases

Action to take: have all recognizable people that appear in the image sign a model release, then upload the model release(s) in the Licensing Manager under the Photo Release section

Property Release Issue / ArtworkWe noticed a problem with your submission. Since you have a recognizable building or location in your photo, or a recognizable work of art in your photo, we need a signed property release in order to make this photo available for licensing. Please find a copy of the standard 500px property release here:

Action to take: have the property owner(s) or artist sign a property release, then upload the property release(s) in the Licensing Manager under the Photo Release section

Ticketed / Sporting Events / Museum - Release or Press Pass Requested

We noticed a problem with your submission. Ticketed events, museums, and other locations that charge admission (incl. professional sports, concerts, artistic performances, car shows) are often restricted to accredited media, press, or contracted photographers and may not be suitable for licensing without permission. To license your image please submit one of the following: press pass, property release, photography permit or letter issued by the event manager. We also suggest asking a representative of the location about any commercial photography restrictions they have in place, and if possible, secure a photography permit or release signed by the property manager and/or an approved representative. Our 500px standard property release can be downloaded here: http://bit.ly/500pxPR.

Action to take: obtain a press pass, property release, photography permit or letter issued by the event manager/property owner giving you permission to use the image commercially. Then upload the property release(s)/permit in theLicensing Managerunder the Photo Release section.

Copyright / Intellectual Property IssuesWe noticed a problem with your submission. All visible branding, logos, and registration numbers must be removed from buildings, clothing, electronics (all visible buttons, icons, recognizable details such as speaker, headphone, camera), sporting equipment, store fronts, boats, trains, vehicles, and animal tags (e.g livestock or pet tags) before re-uploading your photo for commercial licensing.

Action to take: retouch the image as necessary to remove any logos, branding, registration numbers or anything else that may violate Copyright/IP. Then re-upload the fixed image using the Re-upload button in theLicensing Manager.

Once you take the required action, your image is re-submitted for inspection by 500px to be considered for licensing.

  • In the Contributor Agreement, image removal is addressed in two separate places:

Section 2.3: Essentially, we'll comply with your photo removal request within 180 days of receiving such request

Section 7.3: If you terminate your account with 500px, we'll expedite the removal request and comply with removal within 180 days of receiving such a request

As a licensing agent working on behalf of our Contributors, we incur costs and deploy resources to inspect submissions, clean up metadata and keywords, and deliver content to our partners. The grace period of 180 days is in place to ensure 500px and our distribution partners have sufficient time to recuperate expenditures associated with the aforementioned processes.

Steps to remove your photo from Licensing:

In addition to sending us an electronic list with 500px photo IDs or image codes (please email [email protected] ), you can also remove a single photo from 500px Licensing in your Licensing Manager:

    1. Navigate to the specific folder the image is currently in.

*Note: In the example below, the image is in Under review. You can remove a photo from all Licensing Manager folders except Not Submitted, Declined and Removed (for obvious reasons).

    2. Select the photo you'd like to remove. The 'Remove from Licensing' button can be found on the right hand side panel once the photo has been selected.

    3. Click Remove from Licensing.

You will be prompted with the following message:

    4. If everything sounds good, click 'Confirm and remove'.

    5. The photo will transition directly to the Removed folder and when a photo is selected in the Removed folder, the removal date and the following message will display for your reference:

Keep in mind, removing a photo from Licensing does NOT remove the photo from your 500px profile. The action of removing a photo from Licensing simply means you are withdrawing the photo from future licensing activity, once the grace period of 180 days has ended.

If you change your mind after removing a photo, you cannot re-instate the removed photo. Instead, you will need to start from the beginning of the process and upload and submit the photo to Licensing again.

  • Note: 500px does not have tools for backing up and restoring batches of photos. We suggest using a backup service to keep your photos safe, in addition to sharing them on 500px. However, there is one option available to certain users that need to download their own photos.

If the photo has been submitted for Licensing, you can access and download any of your high resolution photos, one at a time, in the Licensing Manager.

Steps to download your own photos:

    1. Go to the Licensing Manager.

    2. Choose the folder the image is in.

    3. Hover over the thumbnail of the photo.

    4. A 'Download photo' icon will appear in the top left corner of the thumbnail.

    5. Click 'Download photo'

  • When it comes to your discoverability on 500px and submitting your images to Licensing, keywords are key. To stress the importance of keywording your images, we have improved the Suggested Keywords feature, found in your Photo Manager and the Uploader. Suggested Keywords are meant to assist in the upload process, making it easier to select the right types of keywords to add to your photos, ensuring higher discoverability.

Depending on the image you upload, you will receive a handful of suggested keywords underneath the Keywords box.

requires a minimum of 5 keywords

Simply click on the Suggested keywords and each one will be added to the Keywords box.

Of course, you can always add your own keywords in order to reach the 30 keyword limit, but it's also a good idea to review the Suggested keywords and select a few that apply to your photo.

All other 500px distribution partners. The list is too large to have a source for each one but this distinction includes partners like: AdobeStock, Amana Japan, ageFotostock, etc.

    Your royalty rate

The percentage of royalty a Licensing Contributor will receive when a photo is sold. 500px has two royalty rates - 30% to the Contributor for non-exclusive representation rights and 60% to the Contributor for exclusive representation rights.

    500px share

The amount that 500px receives after sharing the royalty with a Licensing Contributor.

    Your share

The amount that a Licensing Contributor receives after sharing the royalty with 500px.

    Payout status

The payout status of a particular transaction. The various statuses are: Available to Request, Pending, Sent, and Failed. Available to Request means youll be able to request the amount of the transaction in your Payout section. Pending means you have requested a payout but it has not been completed by our payout provider, Tipalti. Sent means our payout provider Tipalti has issued the payout to you. Failed means the payout has not been completed and you will need to contact our Customer Excellence Team to have them review the payout request.

    Sales territory

The region that your image was sold in. Our distribution partners sometimes provide us with this information in our monthly royalty reports. The sales territory information either means that a sales office in that region sold the image, or it can also mean the client or customer who purchased the image is based in this specific part of the world. Wedon'talways list this information for individual sales, so this section may also be left blank depending on the information provided by our partner.

I received a notification that my photo sold, but the amount I received is much less than the price listed on your distribution partners website. Why?

Distribution partners provide a list price or the suggested price on their platforms. In other industries it's known as the MSRP or Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price. The suggested price on our distribution partner platforms is based on file size. However, from time to time our distribution partners will provide bulk pricing or discounted pricing based on their clients needs or a specific pricing agreement that may have been negotiated between the distribution partner and the client. Each distribution partner has sole discretion over pricing. All major licensing platforms in the stock photography industry work in the same way. This has been the case since we began working with distribution partners in 2015. Of note, this was also true of 500px Marketplace when it was operational.

What is the royalty split between 500px and each of your distribution partners, like Getty Images or VCG?

As per our distribution agreement terms, we are unable to divulge the royalty split between 500px and our distribution partners.

  • What is Licensing?

500px photographers can grant permission to certain individuals to use their photos for commercial or editorial purposes. At the time of upload, 500px photographers can choose to submit their photos for Licensing with 500px, via 500pxs royalty-free (RF) stock photography collection.

How does 500px license my photos?

500px partners with two exclusive distribution partners - Getty Images and VCG (Visual China Group) - to license 500px photographers licensable photos asroyalty-free (RF) stock photos.

    What is royalty-free (RF)?

Royalty-freemeans that thelicensefee is paid once and there is no need to pay additionalroyaltiesif the content is re-used by the same client or end-user.

After I submit, will my photos be immediately available for sale?

No. All photo submissions to 500px are reviewed by our editors, so your submissions will not be visibleto buyersuntil they have been reviewed and approved for licensing. You'll be able to see which photos are still under review in the Under review folder, in the Licensing Manager. In addition, our distribution partners - Getty Images and VCG - conduct their own review and inspection prior to approving images for licensing on their platforms.

Why do my photos need to be reviewed and how long does ittake?

Our editors review all submissions and take several factors into consideration including quality, aesthetics, buyer feedback, and most importantly, commercial viability or saleability. Although we make every effort to get your photos addedquickly, it can take some time for our editors to inspect images for Licensing.

Once you've clicked submit, your photos will appearin the Licensing Manager under one of the following folders:

Under review The Under review folder is pretty straight forward. All of your photos that are pending review by our inspectors are organized in this folder. Photos in the Under review folder cannot be edited or modified until our inspectors have reviewed the photo(s).

Changes required The Changes required folder is where you can see your photos that have been reviewed, but soft failed because they have an issue that needs to be fixed before it re-inspection or acceptance. Click on a photo and you will see information displayed about the changes required in the right side panel. At the top of the right side panel, under Changes required, it will provide a description of the issue that needs to be addressed. For more information on where to find details related to changes required, click here

Accepted Under the Accepted folder, you will find all of your photos that have been accepted to Licensing. Clicking on a photo will give you additional details about the photo in the right side panel, including: where the photo is currently available for sale, if releases are attached, title, keywords, exclusivity, submission date, and other relevant information.

Declined The Declined folder holds your photos that have been declined for Licensing. When a photo is clicked on, details are shown in the right side panel. At the top of the right side panel, under Reason for Decline, it will give a reason why the photo was not accepted. You can review all of the Declined reasons here.

Removed Finally, the Removed folder is where you will find any photos that you have chosen to remove from Licensing or have been removed by 500px. Clicking on a photo will reveal details about the removal in the right side panel.

Does 500px notify me when my images are accepted for licensing?

Yes. We'll send a notification to photographer's when their images have been accepted by Getty Images. We're also looking at a similar approach for VCG selections. In addition to this, photos that have been selected by Getty Images will eventually have a "Buy a license" link on the photo detail page on 500px, plus a link to the imagein the Licensing Manager which will redirect users to the photo on the Getty Images website.

How much does it cost to sell photos through 500px and your distribution partners?

Nothing! It's totally free to contributeyour photos to 500px Licensing, and you earn 60% of net sales on images you've submitted exclusively for licensing. All 500px membership levels can contribute; Free, Awesome and Pro.

    How will I get paid?

Check out this guide to getting paid and tracking your sales.

What is the difference between Exclusive and non-Exclusive licenses?

Exclusivelicensing means that only 500px can license the image commercially and you have never licensed this content commercially before. The photographer will always receive 60% share of net sales on exclusive photos. You can still use your licensed photos for self-promotion and your portfolio.

Non-Exclusive licensing means you can sell your image to other commercial licensing vendors, or to other commercial buyers or you have licensed it commercially in the past. The photographer will always receive 30% share of net sales on non-exclusive photos.Which license is better for the Photographer?Exclusive licensing provides a greater revenue opportunity for the Photographer and exclusive content will be featured more often by 500px and our distribution partners. Exclusive content means only 500px and our distribution partners can license this photo and you cannot license this photo to any other agency or make it commercially available to anyone else. The photographer will earn 60% share of net sales for exclusively submitting their photos to 500px for licensing.

An exclusive image can be potentially licensed for "Exclusive Use", for a set period of time, for several thousand dollars in some cases. If a photo is licensed for this special "Exclusive Use" license, it cannot be sold commercially during the time period negotiated.Non-exclusivelicensing is meant for photos that have been licensed or offered commercially in the past, or that photographers want to make available for commercial licensing through other vendors or agencies. Submitting these photos will earn the photographer 30% net of any non-exclusive license purchased. Why do I need a release form and what for?To determine whether you require a release or not, click here. For photos that have a person or persons that can be recognized within the photo, we must have a Model Release for each recognizable person in the photo. If you cannot obtain a signed model release for a photo of a recognizable person or persons, our editors may still be able to accept the image as Editorial (Editorial photos have a narrow usage, excluding commercial usages such as advertising, promotion, etc..). For models under the age of 18, we require that a parent or guardian sign the model release form. You can download the Model Release Form here. For Photos that were taken in a known establishment or recognizable location, we may also require a Property Release Form (aka Location Release) that demonstrates you have the agreement from the owner(s) to use their location in your photograph for commercial use. You can download the Property Release Form (aka Location Release) here. What if my Model is under 18 years of age?For models under the age of 18, we require that a parent or guardian sign the model release form. Please print both the Child and Parent/Guardian name at the top of the form. What if my Photo is a Self-Portrait?Even if your photo is a self-portrait, you will need to sign a Model Release form and state on the form that this is a self-portrait.

How do the taxes work? Do I have to pay them? What if I don't live in the U.S? Click here for more information on taxes. How will I know if my photo sells? You will be notified by email, and you can track your sales at 500px.com/settings/store.

  • Note:If you are unable to confirm your Contact Information, please submit a ticket and include yourpreferred contact number as well as yourlocation (country). We'll attempt to confirm your account.

What is Contact Information Confirmation and when is it required?

As a photographer contributing to Licensing, you are required to submit your primary phone number and email address. If you are not submitting to the Licensing, Contact Information Confirmation is optional. Confirmation will only be required upon your first submission to the Marketplace or if you change your email address. This confirmation helps to increase security for you as the photographer by ensuring you are the only individual using your account. It also helps us get in touch with you if a buyer is interested in an exclusive buyout of your photo or if a buyer is interested in one of your photos that is in pending status (eg. missing releases, tags, etc.).

Why are these Confirmations important for 500px?

When you provide contact information, it helps 500px prevent fraudulent activity. Contact information will also make it much easier for us to get in touch with you when your photos are requested for licensing. This will also allow 500px to find photographers for special assignments. We have paid out more than $300,000 USD in the last few months in 20 countries on custom assignments! We want to make sure we can contact you if youre interested in participating in future custom shoots.

How is this going to improve communication between 500px and me?

Sometimes 500px emails go to our users spam folders or the email listed on a users account is not necessarily the best point of contact. Implementing this process will provide us with the best way to contact you and will ensure your contact details are always up to date. We may need to contact you by telephone, especially for custom assignments, so providing an up to date phone number will ensure you are easy to get in touch with.

Where can I start this process?

The Contact Confirmation tab is located under the Security section of your Settings menu.

Is 500px going to use my contact information for anything else?

No, 500px will store your contact information with the utmost security and confidentiality. It will be used solely for the purpose of confirming your identity. 500px will never disclose, sell, or publish a phone number or email address. All information will be securely stored and will be used only for matters regarding formal communications from 500px.

What ifI'mnot interested in licensing my images?

Our users are not obligated to submit their photos for licensing. This confirmation process applies only to those users who are contributing to Licensing. However, even if you are not interested in licensing images, we do encourage you to confirm your contact information for security purposes.

    Summary

In late June 2018, 500px shifted from the stock photography destination known as 500px Marketplace to offer a spectrum of premium and midstock-priced royalty-free imagery directly through two exclusive distributors: Getty Images (exclusive worldwide, except Peoples Republic of China (PRC)) and Visual China Group (VCG), exclusive in PRC.This is part of a strategic repositioning of 500pxs network of contributors and the licensable content they submit to 500px. These changes enable 500px to serve the needs of a broader cohort of visual media customers, and represent a significant revenue opportunity for the company and its contributors.

    What is 500px?

500px is the leading social network for photographers to connect, improve, and share their best work. 500pxs stock photography products are licensed globally for advertising, print, web, corporate communications, and publishing use.

    What is 500px Marketplace?

500px Marketplace is 500pxs royalty-free (RF) stock photography licensing platform, created in 2014 to meet customer demand for a broader range of content and prices. 500px Marketplace ceased direct sales and e-commerce operations in late June 2018.

    What is Licensing?

500px photographers can grant permission to certain individuals to use their photos for commercial or editorial purposes. At the time of upload, 500px photographers can choose to submit their photos for Licensing with 500px, via 500pxs royalty-free (RF) stock photography collection.

How is 500px connected to Getty Images and Visual China Group (VCG)?

VCG has been 500pxs exclusive distribution partner in China since July 2015 and recently acquired 100% of 500px shares. Getty Images is not only 500pxs exclusive distribution partner (as of July 1st, 2018), but also among the worlds leading creators and distributors of award-winning still imagery, video, music, and multimedia products, including other forms of premium digital content.

Getty Images and VCG both operate stock photography distribution platforms and will exclusively represent 500px throughout the world. Getty Images represents licensable 500px imagery worldwide except Peoples Republic of China (PRC), while VCG will continue to be the exclusive distributor of licensable 500px imagery in the Peoples Republic of China.

    Whats happening to 500px Marketplace?

500px has recognized that Marketplace hasnt performed as well in the stock photography space as hoped. As a result, we had to choose between investing resources in building on and further promoting 500px Marketplace, or considering a distribution-only model for 500px, a revenue model that has been growing in recent years. With significant brand loyalty, great customer bases, and very positive momentum as they continue to expand their reach within the stock photography industry, both Getty Images and VCG are the obvious choice to represent 500px exclusively, worldwide.

500px Marketplace closed on June 30th, 2018, and we have begun to transition licensable 500px images from 500px Marketplace to Getty Images and VCG.

How is distribution different than 500px Marketplace direct sales?

500px has operated a distribution channel since 2015 and the model does not changeonly the distribution partners well be working with going forward. The main difference between distribution and direct sales is the number of parties involved in the royalty split. 500px Marketplace licenses (essentially direct sales on the Marketplace platform) are split between two parties: the contributor and 500px. Meanwhile, a distribution-only revenue model means all transactions and sales will occur on Getty Images and/or VCGs website and royalties will be shared by the distribution partner, contributor and 500px.

Ive opted out of distributiondoes this announcement apply to my photos?

Photos from photographers that have opted out of distribution are not delivered to Getty Images or VCG. For photographers that have opted out of distribution with 500px, June 30th, 2018 was the end of licensing their work through us. On that date, marketplace.500px.com will officially close and no longer showcase licensable photos from contributors that have opted out of distribution.

What happened to the distribution opt-out page?

With the closure of 500px Marketplace, we have removed the distribution opt-out page for contributors. Contributors can still choose not to participate in distribution by disabling licensing in their Settings. As of July 1st, 2018, all licensing through 500px is distribution related, so it doesn't make sense to keep the distribution opt-out when disabling licensing is the same action.

Can I still update my distribution settings?

Contributors can still choose not to participate in distribution by disabling licensing in your Settings.

I opted out of distribution prior to July 1st, 2018 - will my opt-out settings remain the same?

For photographers that opted out of distribution with 500px prior to July 1st, 2018, licensing was automatically disabled.

What if I want to remove my images from Getty Images' and VCG's website(s)?

If you're not interested in licensing your work through 500px and our distribution partners, you can disable licensing under your Settings. In addition to this action, we require contributors to send us an electronic list of 500px image code(s), highlighting the images you want to remove.

If I disable licensing, how long will it take for 500px to remove my image(s) from your distribution partner's website(s)?

We do our best to remove Selected Images for sale or distribution within 180 days of receiving such a request, as per Section 2.3 of our Contributor Agreement. Be sure to also send us an electronic list with 500px image code(s) for the respective Selected Images.

I already license my work through Getty Images directly -won'tthere be duplication?

Well be working with our partners at Getty Images to ensure photos from photographers that already have an established relationship with Getty Images, are not included in our deliveries.

How does this affect Creative Commons users and photographers?

All direct licensing features (pricing, shopping cart, comp downloads, etc..) will be removed from the platform, including the ability for contributors to choose a Creative Commons license during the photo upload process. Well also remove the ability for users to download photos with a Creative Commons license.

Is 500px providing a migration path for existing contributors who submit Creative Commons images?

The short answer is no. Our plan is to remove the ability to upload an image to 500px with a Creative Commons license. Well also be removing the functionality to download and search for Creative Commons images on our website.

Do you have another public copyright license that 500px photographers can use when they upload new photos?

500px does not offer another public copyright license option, however, if photographers are interested, they can choose the 500px License (royalty-free) at the time of upload. By choosing the royalty-free 500px License option, photographers will be submitting their images for potential licensing through the 500px collection, which means their images could be distributed through our newest global distribution partner, Getty Images, as well as VCG.

Can I still submit photos to 500px for licensing?

Yes, please do. Images submitted to 500px will be represented by our two exclusive distributors worldwide and known as the 500px collection. The 500px team will continue to source contributors and images to strengthen the 500px collection and recognize revenue growth.

How will I know if a picture was chosen by Getty Images or VCG or both?

We're looking at a method to communicate that clearly. It's likely that during the first few months of the partnership we'll send out an email to contributors with a link to their image on Getty Images, if the image has been selected. We're also looking at a similar approach for VCG selections. In addition to this, photos that have been selected by Getty Images will have a "Buy a license" link on the photo detail page which will redirect users to the Getty Images website.

Will contributors still get feedback on submitted photos before they are selected by a partner? If so, how?

The 500px submission process will not change. We still inspect the images to be sure they're acceptable for licensing, before we submit them to Getty Images and VCG. You will receive feedback on your submissions in the same way you always have.

If a photo can be selected by both partners and a customer attempts to purchase an exclusive license, how will that be handled?

If a customer wants to license the image exclusively, Getty Images or VCG will communicate with 500px who will then contact the other partner and the contributor to confirm details. Similar to how it works today for any exclusive sale through our existing distribution partners.

Where will I be able to see pricing for my photos on Getty Images and VCG?

Our partners reserve the right to control their own pricing. Getty Images pricing can be found on http://gettyimages.com. VCG's pricing does not display directly on their platform https://www.vcg.com/index. VCG's clients connect directly with their sales and customer service teams for pricing and purchasing.

I received a notification that my photo sold, but the amount I received is less than the price listed on your distribution partners website.

What does this mean for contributors to 500px Marketplace?

With Getty Images and VCG, we have two partners that control considerable market share in the stock photography industry. 500px is forecasting a higher inventory of licenses for contributors and more revenue overall. As with anything new, it will take time. Please bear with us. By late summer / early fall youll have the chance to sell your work to a whole new crowd of people and grow your licensing revenue through 500pxs exclusive distributors.

What royalties does content submitted for licensing through 500px pay?

500px photographer royalties remain the same: 30% for non-exclusive images submitted and 60% for exclusive images submitted.

What if Idon'twant my images to be part of the 500px collection?

No obligation, but of course well be disappointed if youdon'twant to contribute to our collection. We think youll be missing out on a great opportunity to sell your images to a new audience, as well as be part of the dynamic and creative 500px contributor community. Fair warning: well likely try to change your mind!

I have friends who will be interested in this opportunity. Where can I send them?

Tell all your friends that 500px is partnered with two world-class, exclusive distributors. You can direct everyone to our Support page for Contributors on 500px.com for more information on how to register, submit their contact information, review and accept the contributor agreement, and find further details about 500px licensing.

I have questions. Who do I contact?

Please submit a 500px Support Request here.

    Where is the 500px office?

For photographers who submit their photos to 500px for licensing, we partner with two exclusive distribution partners or resellers who work directly with local brands and advertisers in specific territories. Distributors operate their own e-commerce platforms where they host licensable 500px content.

What does a distribution partner do?

Distribution partners, also known as the channel or distribution channel, are strategic partners that represent licensable 500px content and package licensable 500px content to fit their buyers needs.

    Who are 500px's distribution partners?

500px works directly with two exclusive distribution partners - Getty Images and Visual China Group (VCG). You can read more about each here.

Distribution partner payouts - How do I get paid for distribution sales?

Distribution partners license 500px content on their own websites and then monthly or quarterly, report their sales to 500px. 500px then processes distribution partner royalties through our payment system and the sales appear in individual photographers Licensing Sales History as License Name - Distributor sale.

Distribution partner payouts - How does the royalty split work with distribution partner sales?

With any distribution partner sale, there are three (3) parties involved in the royalty split - the distribution partner, 500px, and the photographer. 500px has negotiated competitive royalty splits with each of our partners. As per our distribution agreements, we cannot disclose the exact royalty percentage for each individual partnership.

Distribution partner payouts - Can you describe what you mean by three (3) parties involved in the royalty split?

For example, if 500px were to have an even-share royalty agreement with our distribution partner, then 500pxs initial share would be 50% of any sale transacted by the distribution partner.

If for instance they were to license an image for $250.00 to their client, the royalty breakout would be:

    Initial sale price - $250.00

    Distribution partners share - $125.00

    500px & Photographer share - $125.00

Then, based on the individual photos Representation Rights (Exclusive or Non-Exclusive) the Photographer share is either:

    Exclusive - $75.00 (60% of $125.00)

    Non-exclusive - $37.50 (30% of $125.00)

    Distribution partner Pricing:

Distribution partners have sole discretion over their pricing. This is also outlined in our Contributor Agreement.

How do I know if my 500px images are part of the Distribution Channel?

In accepting the Contributor Agreement and enabling licensing, photographers grant 500px the right to distribute any images submitted to 500px for licensing.

What ifI'mnot interested in licensing my photos through the Distribution Channel or through Distributors?

If you're not interested in licensing your work through 500px and our distribution partners, you can disable licensing under your Settings.

Non-Exclusivemeans you can sell your image through othercommercial licensing vendors, ordirectly tocommercial buyers, or you have licensed it commercially in the past.

Which license is better for the Photographer?Exclusivelicensing provides a greater revenue opportunity for the Photographer and exclusive content will be featured more often by 500px. Exclusive content means only 500px can license this photo and you cannot license this photo to any other agency or make it commercially available to anyone else.

An exclusive image can be potentially licensed for "Exclusive Use", for a set period of time, for several thousand dollars in most cases. If a photo is licensed for this special "Exclusive Use" it can notbe sold commercially to any other buyers during the time period negotiated. The photographer will earn 60% netof every license purchased.Non-exclusiveLicensing is meant for photos that have been licensed in the past, or you want to make available for commercial licensing through other vendors or agencies. These photos will earn 30% net on non-exclusive licenses purchased.

To calculate when you will have more uploads on your account, you need to count backwards from your seventh image in your Photo Manager (500px.com/manage).

You will be notified of how many uploads you have left within the time period when you upload an image. At the bottom of the upload screen, the following message will appear: "You have "X" photos left this week. Upgrade to Awesome, or Pro for unlimited uploads!"

If you have exceeded your uploads for the period, you will be redirected to our Upgrades page (https://500px.com/upgrade) when you try to upload. The following message will appear at the top of the screen: "Looks like you reached your upload limit for this week! You can upgrade below for unlimited uploads."

Why does this limitation exist for free members?

Weve heard from our many users the desire to see an even higher level of quality of photos on our platform. At 500px, we constantly strive to showcase the very best photos from our community. We have always encouraged our users to share their very best and to focus on quality over quantity.
