Mr. Chunyuan Gu has been President of the AMEA region at ABB Ltd since July 1, 2017 and its Managing Director of China since 2014. Mr. Gu served as the Head of Operations for China and North Asia at ABB Ltd. from January 1, 2014 to July 1, 2017. Mr. Gu served as the Head of Discrete Automation and Motion Division - North Asia at ABB Ltd. until January 1, 2014. Mr. Gu joined ABB in 1989 and has enjoyed a long career in ABB's businesses in Europe and Asia. He is recognized as a leading global expert in industrial robotics and industrial automation. He held several technology and management roles in robotics in Sweden between 1989 and 2005 before moving back to China in 2006 to lead ABB's global robotics R&D center in Shanghai2E. He soon became manager of the robotics business in China and was appointed head of the Discrete Automation and Motion division in North Asia, which includes the major markets of China, Japan and South Korea, in 2012. His leadership role also covered automation in power segments, with a strong focus on renewables. He also stands out for his intimate relations with customers in North Asia and worldwide and profound understanding of their needs. Mr. Gu worked as a research fellow at the Royal Institute of Technology before joining ABB. He has a degree in Engineering from Shanghai JiaoTong University in China and a PhD in Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. He is fluent in Swedish, English as well as Mandarin Chinese.
