Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility at Allstate Northern Ireland

At Allstate Northern Ireland, we are committed to being a responsible and socially conscious business. Our sustainability efforts are embedded across our operations, benefiting our people, our community, and our planet.

Climate Action Strategy: We’ve implemented a robust Climate Action Strategy focused on reducing energy usage, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and diverting waste from landfill. As of June 2023, we’ve already surpassed our 2030 target by reducing scope 1 and scope 2 emissions by 33.35%.

BITC Climate Action Pledge: In 2020, we pledged to reduce our scope 1 and 2 emissions by 30% by 2030. This goal was achieved ahead of schedule through real estate consolidation, hybrid working policies, and energy reduction measures.

Tree Planting Initiatives: Since launching our tree planting initiative in November 2022, we’ve planted over 4,720 trees through employee volunteering and company funding. Our partnership with Treekly encourages employees to walk 5,000 steps daily to earn trees, promoting both reforestation and healthier lifestyles. In June alone, Allstate teams across Canada, the US, Ireland, and India walked over 34 million steps, resulting in the planting of 3,600 mangrove trees.

SDG Framework: Allstate NI supports 14 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including 7 with direct environmental impact.

We continuously strive to improve our environmental performance and reduce our ecological footprint through innovative practices and employee engagement.

Waste Management: Our offices maintain a 97% diversion rate from landfill. We use centralized recycling stations instead of individual bins, with clear labeling to help employees sort waste correctly. We also encourage the use of reusable cups, available for purchase in our coffee shop.

Green Electricity: All electricity supplied to Allstate NI offices is sourced from 100% renewable energy. Our buildings are equipped with LED lighting, light and water sensors, and a Building Management System (BMS) that optimizes heating and cooling schedules.

Energy Reduction: Since November 2024 , our Belfast office has achieved over a 35% reduction in energy usage. This builds on previous efficiencies gained through hybrid working and fewer people in the office. Our BMS continues to drive improvements in HVAC system runtimes and overall energy performance.

Environmental Benchmarking: We participate annually in the Northern Ireland Environmental Benchmarking Survey and have achieved GOLD level for two consecutive years, reflecting our leadership in environmental management and performance.

We actively support philanthropic and charitable causes through volunteering opportunities, financial support for team-led initiatives, and community engagement programmes.
