Dr. Eric E. Schmidt, Ph.D., serves as Founding Partner, Co- Founder and Non-Managing Member at Innovation Endeavors. Dr. Schmidt is the Founder at TomorrowVentures, LLC. He served as the Chief Technology Officer at Oracle America, Inc. From July 2001 to April 1, 2011, he served as the Chief Executive Officer at Alphabet Inc., oversaw its technical and business strategy and also served as its Chairman from March 2001 to April 2004 and again from April 2007 to April 3, 2011. Dr. Schmidt joined Google from Novell, Inc., where he served as the Chief Executive Officer from April 1997 to July 2001 and Chairman from April 1997 to November 2001. At Google, he was overseeing the company's technical and business strategy. Under his leadership, Google scaled its infrastructure and diversified its product offerings while maintaining a strong culture of innovation. From 1983 to March 1997, Dr. Schmidt served various positions at Sun Microsystems, including Chief Technology Officer from February 1994 to March 1997 and also served as its Corporate Executive Officer. He served as the President at Sun Technology Enterprises from February 1991 to February 1994. Dr. Schmidt served as a Vice President at General Systems Group and Vice President and General Manager of Software Products division. He led the development of Java, Sun's platform- independent programming technology and defined Sun's Internet software strategy. Before joining Sun in 1983, Dr. Schmidt served as a Member of the Research staff at the Computer Science Lab of Palo Alto Research Center Incorporated (alternate name Xerox Palo Alto Research Center), and served as a Research Staff at Bell Laboratories, Inc. and Zilog, Inc. He served as the Chief Technology Officer, Chief Executive Officer. He was employed at Novell Cambridge Technology Partners. He has been Executive Chairman at Google Inc. since April 4, 2011 and Alphabet Inc. since April, 2011. Dr. Schmidt is responsible for the external matters of all of the holding company's businesses, including Google Inc., building partnerships and broader business relationships, government outreach and technology thought leadership, as well as advising the Chief Executive Officer and senior leadership on business and policy issues. He has been a Director of Alphabet Inc. since March, 2001. Dr. Schmidt serves as a Director of Google Inc. He has been a Non-Executive Director at the Economist Group Limited since November 2013. Dr. Schmidt serves as a Director of InSight Venture Partners. He serves as a Director of Civis Analytics, Inc. Dr. Schmidt serves as a Member of Advisory Board of Carnegie Mellon University and GTI Group LLC. He serves as a Board of the Broad Institute Trustee of Mayo Clinic. Since 2008, he has been a Trustee of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. Dr. Schmidt serves as a Trustee of Menlo School. He serves as a Member of Advisory Board at OTOY Inc. Dr. Schmidt serves as a Member of Executive Council at TechNet. He served as a Director at Novell, Inc. He served as Member Executive of Advisory Board of Insight Venture Partners. Dr. Schmidt served as a Director of Apple Inc. from August 29, 2006 to July 31, 2009; Siebel Systems Inc. since May 1996; and a Board Member of Tilion, Inc. He served as the Chairman of New America Foundation. He served as Chairman of Department of Defense's Innovation Board in 2016. He served as Chairman at InSight Venture Partners and served as Chairman at Novell, Inc. Dr. Schmidt is a Member of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology and the Prime Minister's Advisory Council. He was an Advisor on President Obama's re-election campaign. In 2006, he was elected to the National Academy of Engineering, which recognized his work on the development of strategies for the world's most successful Internet search engine company. He's a Gulfstream pilot and his philanthropic efforts through The Schmidt Family Foundation focus on climate change, including support of ocean and marine life studies at sea, as well as education, specifically cutting edge research and technology in the natural sciences and engineering. Dr. Schmidt is a co-author of The New Digital Age and How Google Works Transforming Nations, Businesses, and Our Lives. He was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences as a fellow in 2007. Dr. Schmidt has over 20 years of experience as an Internet strategist, entrepreneur and technologist give him a well-seasoned perspective. He was awarded the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service in January of 2017 by Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter. Dr. Schmidt received a Ph.D. and a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of California-Berkeley, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University.
