Temporarily suspend requirements for MAC address on your router

Connect your cooker to your WI-FI network

Look up the MAC address associated with your cooker in your router settings

Re-start MAC address requirements on router

Add MAC address for your cooker to your MAC address Whitelist

You should now see a successful WI-FI connection with your MAC Address router restrictions.

  • WHY IS THE APP ASKING FOR LOCATION ACCESS?

Due to updates on Google's end, any app that uses Bluetooth requires location access to be granted. Since The Anova Culinary App scans for your cooker during pairing, these location services need to be on. Don't worry though, that's the only purpose for location services being on in The Anova Culinary App--there's no other purpose for location that it's using. If you didn't enable location access initially, you can turn it on by heading to your phone's Settings > Apps & notifications > The Anova Culinary App > Permissions. For more information regarding location access on Google's end check outthe Android developer website.

WHY IS AN ANOVA ACCOUNT REQUIRED TO ACCESS CERTAIN PARTS OF THE APP?

As always, you don’t need an Anova account to browse our collection of sous vide recipes and cooking guides or to connect to your Bluetooth-enabled Anova. However, for your convenience and security, we do require an account for the following:

    Connecting Your Anova to Wi-Fi

In order to enable cooking over Wi-Fi, we require an account that connects your Anova Precision Cooker and mobile device. This helps us ensure that you and only you can control your Anova.

    Saving Your Favorite Recipes

Losing your phone is enough of a bummer on its own and we wouldn’t want you to lose all your saved recipes along with it. Saving your favorite recipes to an Anova account instead of locally on your phone means that no matter what happens to your mobile device, you’ll always be able to access your recipe collection.

    Your User Profile

The Profile section of the app houses information like a history of your cooks, as well as the recipes you create and publish. All of this information is attached to your account so that we can save it for you. This allows you to access your user profile from any mobile device, so long as you are signed in.

    We don’t sell your data

The data we collect in our apps is used to improve our products and provide better customer support.

    We don’t track your location

Our apps use Bluetooth and certain special Wi-Fi capabilities that are also able to provide data about your location. Apple and Google require that we request permission to access your location, however, we don’t specifically access or use your location.

  • There are two possible causes for this:

A grinding noise is caused when the stainless steel skirt is loose. To fix this just push the stainless skirt up into the guide groove and turn to the right until you hear a click. With the skirt secure, the noise will go away.

If that didn’t fix it, the grinding noise might also be due to a slightly bent stirring shaft. If this is the case, unscrew the clear plastic end cap on the bottom of the device and gently push the impeller until it is centered.

  • There are a few things to keep in mind prior to connecting your cooker to WI-FI:

    App Version(s)

    Distance to Router

    Minimum WI-FI Requirements

    Network Name and Password

    APP VERSION(S)

Ensure that you’re using the latest version of the app.

    Latest iOS version here

    Latest Android version here

    DISTANCE TO ROUTER

For a faster connection process, move your cooker within 5 feet/1.5 meters of your router (not a wireless repeater). Your cooker only needs to be this close during initial setup. Afterwards, you can unplug your cooker and move it anywhere you’d like.

    MINIMUM WI-FI REQUIREMENTS

Your cooker will only connect to a 2.4GHz WI-FI network and must be a WPA/WPA2 network (captive portals, enterprise, and WEP networks won't work).

If you have two network names with the same name - For example “My WIFI Name” and “My WIFI Name-5G” - choose “My WIFI”. Additionally, disabling the 5GHz network during setup of cooker typically yields better connection rates (you can turn the 5GHz network back on after your cooker is connected).

If a 2.4GHz network isn’t available or your network is not WPA/WPA2, you need to enable these on your router. Please consult your router documentation for more information on how to enable a 2.4GHz network, temporarily disable your 5GHz network, or change your security protocol.

WI-FI NETWORK NAME AND PASSWORD REQUIREMENTS

Your network namecannot contain spaces andmust be visible (visible SSID).

Please consult your router documentation for more information on how tochange your network name ormake your SSID visible.

You must have a network password (open networks won't work) and your network password cannot contain spaces.

If you need to change your password, please consult your router documentation for more information on how to make this update.

Once your network meets all the above requirements, follow this article to get set up and get cookin'!

  • It's possible that there's not enough water in your vessel. The pump generates 'waves' that sometimes cause the water level to dip below the low water sensors. Try adding more water. Note that there are two low water sensors andboth must be immersed in the water.

Please reach out to us if that doesn't work and we'd be happy to help!

  • Your cooker may disconnect from bluetooth for a couple of reasons:

    RANGE

Bluetooth has limited range - sometimes as low as 10 feet when there is significant signal interference. This can come from larger or thicker walls, or wall materials on the wall such as plaster, etc. Move your phone closer to the cooker and the two should reconnect automatically.

    BLUETOOTH DISABLED

Your phone may have its bluetooth setting disabled. If so, enable it from your phone's settings and the two should reconnect automatically.

  • After you get done making the best meal ever, you can do your part by recycling the material that you used.

    How to Recycle Plastic Bags

Did you know that Ziploc brand bags are recyclable alongside things like grocery bags, produce bags, bread bags, food storage bags, dry cleaning bags, and plastic packaging wraps? Certain locations, like recycling centers and retail stores (check out Target and Whole Foods) have set up drop-offs for plastic bag recycling. You can find a location near you by visiting https://www.plasticfilmrecycling.org/recycling-bags-and-wraps/find-drop-off-location/

Simply pop your bags in the dishwasher post cook and make sure the bags are empty, clean, and dry before drop off.

Side note: there are a few types of plastic film that shouldn’t go in your recycling bin or be dropped off at these plastic film collection points, such as:

    Frozen food bags

    Pre-washed salad mix bags

Compostable or degradable plastic bags or films

    Cellophane

    Cling wrap

    Why it Matters

The process of recycling uses much less energy than manufacturing with brand new raw materials. Recycling conserves energy and natural resources, reduces pollution, and helps prevent landfills from filling up. The majority of recycled plastic are turned into things like fences, benches, decks, door and window frames, crates, buckets, pallets and new packaging and bags.

    Want to Skip the Plastic?

The Stasher Bag is a reusable and responsible bag made from 100\% pure platinum food grade silicone. With the use of silicone, there are no harmful byproducts or chemicals. Find out more here: https://anovaculinary.com/sous-vide-accessories/reusable-silicone-bags/

  • Enterprise authentication is not supported. The cooker can't join any WI-FI networks that require both a username and password.

WPA2PSK and WPAPSK authentication with AES or TKIP encryption are the recommended WI-FI network configurations.

WEP is supported, but not recommended.

Make sure your router is visible (visible SSID) in your settings.

AP Isolation - If you have this setting enabled in your router settings or WI-FI extender, you will need to have this option disabled in order to connect your Anova Precision Cooker WI-FI. • You don't need to get fancy or spend too much money buying anything for your first time Precision Cooking. Resealable freezer grade plastic bags are a great option, because they are ridiculously easy to find, can take the heat, and are relatively cheap.

You can also explore many other options including silicone reusable bags and vacuum sealed.

Buying food grade vacuum sealing bags is a great option if you don't mind spending a little money. This option does a great job of getting all of the air out of the bag, but it's not necessary unless you prefer it.

If you feel like skipping out on the plastic, another option is resealable and reusable silicone bags. We recommend you do your own research on bags and choose what works best for you and your lifestyle.

  • If you don't have a vacuum sealer it is no problem! You can easily create a natural vacuum seal using just plastic bags and the power of displacement using the theimmersion method. This is the most popular method to quickly vacuum sealbecause it requires no special equipment and is very effective.

Here is a quick guide on how to do it.

If you are more of a visual learner, check out this quick video:

How to do the Immersion Method from Anova Culinary on Vimeo.

If visual learning isn't your thing, here are some written instructions

    1. Simply put the food in the bag and seal it until there is about fingers width left unsealed at the top.

    2. Then submerge the bag in the water until the top the bag is just above the water line.

    3. At this point, the air will naturally escape out of the top and create a nice natural vacuum seal, and you can simply seal the rest of the top of the bag, and voil you have hacked the "vacuum seal."

*One tip we have learned execute this method in cool water as opposed to directly in the cooking bath; Anova-warmed water may not be boiling, but it sure can get HOT! Save your fingers by either using the immersion method in a separate container of cool water, or do it in the cooking bath before it heats up.*

Always be sure to keep your food out of the 'Danger Zone.' This means ensuring that food is not resting in temperatures between 40F and 140F for more than a few hours

Cooking in plastic bags is perfectly safe. Resealable freezer grade bags containpolyethylene whichdoesn't contain additives like BPA or phthalate

Always be sure you're storing food properly after your cooks if you aren't planning on eating your meal immediately. It's recommended to toss your bagged food in an ice bath prior to refrigerating

As with any other health concerns, please consult your medical professionals for more information about safety when consuming sous vide prepared meals specific to your diet.

  • Floating bags:

Sometimes the meal you're cooking just keeps floating up! Like what?! Since when do steak or carrots float? Don't worry, hereare some simple solutions for floating food because sinking is crucial for getting even doneness for anything you are cooking.

Weigh the bag down with utensils. The most common way is to stick a food grade stainless steel knife or two in the bag to keep it from floating up. The stainless steel will not contaminate your meal, so no worries there! *Be sure not to stick in sharp objects because they will puncture your nicely sealed bags! For more information click here

Alternative internal weights. This method uses alternative weighting options like pie weights, glass marbles, stainless steel fishing weights or ball bearings, even spare change. The key here is to seal these separately in their own bags. This will make cleanup much easier and prevent the leaching of any contaminants from the weights into the food.

External weights. Alternately, you can use the same internal weights externally. Instead of placing them inside the food bag, you can clip their sealed pouches to the bottom of your cooking bag with a small bulldog or alligator clip! Another convenient external weighting tool is the simple stainless vegetable steamer basket placed upside-down on top of the bags. Because these expand from 5 9 ”/~14 24cm, they will fit most saucepans and stockpots. Steamer baskets are also ideal because they hold your floating bags down while still allowing water circulation through their built-in perforations.

Press and seal: It’s as simple as it sounds! Take the bag with the food and roll the air out. This method can be effective if you carefully press all the air out. To do this place the food in the bag and compress the air around the food so that there is no air touching the food. While holding the food, roll it so it stays sealed. Also, check out The Immersion Method

Leave the bag open and clip it to the side of the pot. This technique is when all else fails! There will be cases when despite getting as much air out as possible and weighing your bag down it will still not stay down. For these rare situations, we recommend that you Don’t seal your bag. If you do go this route you must meet this criteria:

Ensure that the bag is large or deep enough for whatever you’re cooking to be completely submerged by water while the top remains clipped to the side of the container. This is effectively a constant application of the immersion method, so air will not be making its way in from the top given pressure of the outside water.

Keep the unsealed opening OUT of the water AT ALL TIMES.

Periodically assist any gathered gases towards that opening using a silicon spatula or wooden spoon. Use something that will not compromise the integrity of the bag with sharp edges.

Clipping the bags:Sometimes the bags can go for a floating tour - An easy solution to counter this is simply clipping the bag to the side of your pot. Bulldog clips, any office binder clips or even a chip bag clip if you're feeling adventurous will work.

  • Traditional methods of cooking don’t allow you to have control over heat and temperature making it very difficult and time consuming to consistently cook great food. Food ends up overcooked on the outside, with only a small portion in the center that is cooked to the temperature you want. Food loses flavor, overcooks easily, and ends up with a dry, chewy texture using traditional methods of cooking.

restaurant-quality results from edge to edge

Cooking sous vide, you get the following benefits:

Consistency.Because you cook your food to a precise temperature for a precise amount of time, you can expect very consistent results.

  • Sous vide (pronounced sue-veed), is a cooking technique that utilizes precise temperature control to deliver consistent, restaurant-quality results. The name means “under vacuum” in French, which refers to the process of vacuum-sealing food in a bag, then cooking it to a very precise temperature in a water bath. This process creates uniquely textured foods that are tender, moist, and unlike anything ever created in conventional kitchens. The low temperatures used in sous vide cooking help the ingredients retain full flavor and nutrients with exceptional succulence.

  • Your cooker may be in Celsius and as such, the maximum temperature is 99C. You can update the temperature scale to Fahrenheit by holding the play button for 3 seconds.

  • Your cooker will beep for a few reasons:

    Water Level

    The Timer

    Starting and Stopping

    Desired Temperature

    WATER LEVEL IS LOW

Type of beep: A sudden drawn-out beeping noise that doesn't stop.

Reason for beeping: Water level is below the "min" line.

How to stop beeping: Add water until water level is above the "min" line. To ensure this doesn't happen again, make sure you cover your pot or vessel to prevent evaporation, leaving a small hole for steam to escape away from the electrical head of the unit. We recommend simple cling wrap to cover the opening.

If adding more water does not stop the beeping this means that steam may be present in the head of your cooker. Try unplugging your cooker and letting it dry out by putting in a bag of rice to help absorb the moisture. The next time you plug it in, it should no longer be beeping. Please reach out to us if the beeping persists and we'd be happy to help!

    THE TIMER HAS REACHED ZERO

Type of beep:Three short beeps in a row, that repeat.

Reason for beeping:These beeps indicate that your cooking time has finished.

How to stop beeping: In order to stop the beeping, Precision Cooker WIFI+Bluetooth owners will be able to stop the beeping via the app. Owners of the Precision Cooker Bluetooth will have to manually stop the timer by pressing the play button. If you want to keep your food warm, after you press the play button to stop the beeping, simply press it again to keep the water circulating and heating.

If the beeping doesn't stop, try resetting your device by unplugging it and replugging it back in. Please reach out to us if the beeping persists and we'd be happy to help!

THE COOKER HAS BEEN STARTED OR STOPPED

Type of beeping: A set of 3 very quick beeps (starting the device). A single beep (stopping the device).

Reason for beeping:Indicates starting/stopping your device.

How to stop beeping: The beeping should stop on its own. Please reach out to us if the beeping persists and we'd be happy to help!

THE COOKER HAS REACHED ITS DESIRED TEMPERATURE

Type of beeping:Two very short beeps.

Reason for beeping:Indicates that the desired temperature has been reached.

How to stop beeping:This beep should only be momentary, and should go stop on its own. Please reach out to us if the beeping persists and we'd be happy to help!

Note that if you are having any issues with beeping noises that are not one of these four, always check your water level, make sure steam is not getting into the head of your unit, and restart your unit by unplugging it and plugging it back in. And always remember you can reach out to us if and we'd be happy to help!

  • When your cooker temperature doesn't match your external thermometer source, it's due to heavy evaporation and inadequate waiting periods. Coveryour tank with foil and wait for about 15 minutes for temperature equilibration. Once the water temperature is stable, complete a second read.

Please keep in mind your cooker is calibrated to a scientific platinum primary standard which is far more accurate than consumer-grade thermometers. Candy thermometers and meat sensors are not accurate enough to warrant a calibration. We recommend a Thermapen or higher grade thermometers.

Grab any vessel (metal, glass, or plastic all work) to hold your device.

Remove your cooker from the box and secure the adjustable clamp onto it. Slide the clamp vertically, so that it sits underneath the display screen. Tighten it by twisting the top knob clockwise.

Attach the cooker to the side of your vessel and tighten the clamp to the pot by twisting the lower knob clockwise so that the cooker is standing straight up (no need to tighten it too much).

Fill the vessel with water so that the water is between the minimum and maximum water lines denoted on the metal skirt.

Plug it in, set your temp by using the blue scroll wheel, and get cookin'!
