Ms. Maria Angelo Theofilaktidis has been the Chief Compliance & Regulatory Officer and Executive Vice President at The Bank of Nova Scotia since May 4, 2017. Ms. Theofilaktidis served as an Executive Vice-President of Retail Distribution at The Bank of Nova Scotia until May 4, 2017 and served as its Executive Vice-President of Retail Distribution, Canadian Banking. She served as the Senior Vice President of Retail, Small Business & Wealth Management Credit Risk, with responsibility for credit risk management strategy and leading the governance and global oversight of Scotiabank's retail, small business and consumer wealth portfolios. Since joining Scotiabank in 2002, she held various positions including Senior Vice President and Chief Accountant, Vice President of Financial Accounting and Reporting, Vice President of Capital Management and Vice President of Professional Practice and Executive Office Audit. She is a Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Accountant. Ms. Theofilaktidis gained significant financial experience with KPMG's National Office and Financial Services and Insurance Practices in Canada and South Africa. Interestingly, her first job was as a front-line teller in South Africa. She completed her Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Accounting at the University of The Witwatersrand, South Africa.
