Stephen Merkel — Executive VP, General Counsel & Company Secretary at BGC Partners

Mr. Stephen M. Merkel has been an Executive Vice President of BGC Partners, Inc. (formerly eSpeed Inc.) since September 2001 and has been its General Counsel and Secretary since June 1999. Mr. Merkel has been the Chief Legal Officer, Executive Vice President, General Counsel, Secretary and Director of Cantor Entertainment Technology, Inc. since November 12, 2014. Mr. Merkel has been an Executive Managing Director, General Counsel and Secretary of Cantor Fitzgerald, L.P. and Cantor Fitzgerald & Co. since December 2000 and serves as their Director. Mr. Merkel joined Cantor Fitzgerald in 1993. He served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Cantor from May 1993 to December 2000. Previously, he served as the Senior Vice President and Director of eSpeed from June 1999 to September 2001. Prior to joining Cantor Fitzgerald, Mr. Merkel served as Vice President and Assistant General Counsel at Goldman Sachs & Co. from February 1990 to May 1993. From September 1985 to January 1990, Mr. Merkel was an Associate with the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. Mr. Merkel is on the Supervisory Board of the Electronic Liquidity Exchange and is a Founding Board Member of the Wholesale Markets Brokers??? Association, Americas. He served as a Director of GFI Group Inc. from February 26, 2014 to January 2016. He served as a Director of BGC Partners, Inc. from September 2001 to October 2004. Mr. Merkel graduated with a B.A. Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania and received his law degree from the University of Michigan School of Law.
