Mr. Richard C. Henriques, Jr., served as the Chief Financial Officer of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation from 2010 to 2014. Mr. Henriques was responsible to oversees Finance and Accounting, Financial Planning and Analysis, Strategic Planning, Impact Planning and Improvement and several special initiatives. His areas of expertise include corporate controllership and governance, strategic planning, performance measurement and cost management, particularly in the pharmaceutical and pharmacy benefit management industries. Prior to joining the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Mr. Henriques spent 27 years at Merck & Company where he served in key financial positions including Senior Vice President of Finance. He served as Vice President of Finance for Global Human Health of Merck & Co., Inc. from September 1, 2006 to December 2008. He served as Vice President and Controller of Merck & Co., Inc. since August 2002 to September 2006 and also served as its Principal Accounting Officer. He was responsible for the Corporate Controller's Group and providing financial support for the Human Health operations in the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Japan and Australia/New Zealand and the Merck Vaccine Division (MVD). Since November 2000, he served as Vice President and Controller, responsible for the Corporate Controller's Group and providing financial support for U.S. Human Health, Canada and Latin America (The Americas) and MVD. Since February 1999, Mr. Henriques also served as the Vice President and Controller of Merck & Co., Inc. and was responsible for providing financial support for The Americas and since January 1998 he served as its Vice President. Since January 1997, he served as Controller of The Americas of Merck & Co., Inc. He served as Finance Advisor of MSD K.K. (formerly, Banyu Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd.) from January 1989 to January 1992 and Manager of MSDI Controller Operations from January 1985 to January 1988 and Manager of Operations Analysis of Asia/LatAm (Pharmaceuticals industry) from January 1982 to January 1985. He was a Financial Analyst of Merck Chemical Manufacturing Division from January 1981 to January 1982. Mr. Henriques has been a Director of Nativis, Inc. since January 4, 2017. He has been an Independent Non-Executive Director of Arbutus Biopharma Corporation since March 4, 2015. He has been a Director of Pennswood Village, Newtown Friends School and Bowmans Hill Wildflower Preserve since 2009. He serves as an Independent Director of MSD K.K., (formerly, Banyu Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd.). Mr. Henriques holds BA in Oriental Studies from University of Pennsylvania in 1978 and an MBA with concentration in Finance from The Wharton School in 1981.
