Dr. Alfred W. Sandrock Jr., also known as Al, M.D., Ph.D., has been the Chief Medical Officer of Biogen Inc. (alternative name Biogen Idec Inc.) since February 2012 and has been its Executive Vice President since January 7, 2017. Dr. Sandrock has been Group Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Biogen Idec Ltd. since May 2013. He served as Executive Vice President of Neurology Discovery and Development at Biogen Inc. from November 2015 to January 7, 2017. He served as Head of Development and Worldwide Medical of Biogen Inc. since January 7, 2017 until March 18, 2017. He served as Group Senior Vice President of Biogen Inc. since May 2014 until October 2015 and served as its Group Senior Vice President of Development Sciences and Head of Neurology Research & Development. From February 2012 to April 2013, he served as Senior Vice President of Biogen. He joined Biogen in 1998 and served as its Vice President of Clinical Development, Neurology. Dr. Sandrock is an Assistant Clinical Professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School. His contributions to literature include peer-reviewed articles on axonal regeneration, synapse formation, neurophysiology and multiple sclerosis. He has been Member of Scientific Advisory Board of Flex Pharma, Inc. since June 2015. He has been a Director of FORUM Pharmaceuticals Inc. since May 2012 and Neurocrine Biosciences Inc. since September 3, 2015. He serves as Director and Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Disarm Therapeutics, Inc. He completed an internship in medicine, a residency and chief residency in neurology and a clinical fellowship in neuromuscular disease and clinical neurophysiology (electromyography) at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Sandrock received his B.A. in human biology from Stanford University, an M.D. from Harvard Medical School and a Ph.D. in neurobiology from Harvard University.
