Civic's Frequently Asked Questions page is a central hub where its customers can always go to with their most common questions. These are the 30 most popular questions Civic receives.
Use your Civic Secure ID to safely access partner websites and services using the Civic Secure Identity app.
How does it work?
The Civic Secure Identity app stores your sensitive information securely on your phone using bank-level encryption and biometric locks. By keeping your data in your control, it's much harder for hackers and other malicious groups to gain access to this information.
Civic Partners request your information through custom QR codes that you scan with the Civic Secure Identity app. Once you've unlocked the app with your biometrics, you can scan the QR code, review exactly what information is being requested, and choose whether to approve or deny the request.
This unique method allows members to create secure accounts, login to existing accounts, and share sensitive information all without passwords or data being stored outside of your mobile device.
View ArticleWhat is Civic Secure ID backup?
The Civic app securely backs up to your iCloud or Google Drive account, allowing you to retain access to your identity even if you delete and reinstall Civic. This works across devices on the same operating system. Since every persons identity is unique, you will not be able to set up another new Civic Secure ID.
How do I restore or transfer my Civic Secure ID backup?
Accounts can only be transferred to a new device if they are backed up to the same iCloud or Google Drive account. This means that you will only be able to transfer accounts onto devices with the same operating system.
We recommend that you transfer your account in order to retain access to previously authorized partner services.
If you have an iPhone and have enabled iCloud backup on both old and new devices, or have an Android phone and have enabled Google Drive Backups on both devices:
Download the Civic app on your new device and open it.
If a backup is found, the Civic app will prompt you to restore your Civic data. Tap Restore Civic ID.*
* If you are migrating to a different operating system (e.g. Google to Apple), you will need to reset your account and register again. *
Please note that after your account has been reset, you may lose access to previous logins for all partner authorized apps and sites until you successfully verify the same identity information.
We recommend that users restore their Civic Secure ID from backup. If you are having issues restoring your account please follow these troubleshooting steps:
Account Reset Instructions:
If you are unable to recover from a backup please email [email protected] from the email needing to be reset.
Include the telephone number (must include country code) and email address you previously used to sign up with. Your request must originate from the same email address provided. Our standard response time is 24-48 hours.
Once the account has been reset, please delete and reinstall the Civic app on your device.
Launch the Civic app. If prompted, please do not restore from backup.
Complete the Civic ID registration.
Ensure that backup is enabled for your Civic ID.
How do I check that that same iCloud or Google Drive Backup account is being used?
iPhone Users:
Check that the same iCloud account your Civic ID is backed up to is enabled on your new device:
Tap Settings > [your name] > iCloud.
Tap iCloud Drive.
Make sure iCloud Drive is on.
Make sure your backup account is the same as before.
Restart the Civic app and click on restore backup.
If this fails, you will need to register a new Civic ID. Please submit a request for an account reset.
Android Users:
Check that the same Google Drive backup account is enabled on both your devices settings:
Go to Settings on your device.
Find Backup & Reset, or, System > Backup.
Make sure your backup account is the same as before.
Make sure Backup to Google Drive is on.
Restart the Civic app and click on restore backup.
If this fails, you will need to register a new Civic ID. Please submit a request for an account reset.

View ArticleWhat is KYC?
Civic Reusable KYC (Know Your Customer) is the blockchain-based tool for organizations that require more than basic account verification services. Our global KYC application enhances basic account verification services (mobile number and email verification) with scanning and document verification, such as passport and drivers license, and Accredited Investor Checks using the Civic Mobile App.
How does it work?
Identity verification is a voluntary information exchange between the User and the Requester. The Civic Secure Identity Platform (SIP) stores and shares Authenticated Data only with the User's permission, while the Civic Marketplace is a decentralized environment where CVCs are used for attestation payments. An individual downloads the Civic App, establishes an account, and, upon signing up for Requester services, they verify their identity on the blockchain and share the Authenticated Data with Requesters.
