Over the past few weeks, there have been many reported issues with indexing and outlook. (Indexing is a feature that enables any search to return results relatively quick)
Microsoft has acknowledged this issue and released a update to fix it. this update, fixes this the issue for a majority of users.However, if you are still experiencing issues after updating, see below for additional options.
To apply the update you will need to check for updates and install them followed by a computer reboot. Below are directions how to apply the update.
There are primarily 2 different windows versions in use today, Windows 7 and Windows 10. To determine which version you have, look at the bottom left corner of your screen and identify which version.
Windows 10

ClickStart, typeupdatein the search box, in the list of results, clickWindows Update.
In the details pane, clickCheck for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
If you see a message telling you that important or optional updates are available, or telling you to review important or optional updates, click the message to view the updates to install.
In the list, select the check box for the updates that you want to install, clickOK, and then clickInstall updates.
Windows 10
Open Start Menu and click on Settings >Update & Security settings> Windows Update.
Here, press on theCheck for updatesbutton.
If any updates are available, they will be offered to you.
If Windows Update says that your PC is up to date, it means that you have all the updates that are currently available for your system.
If the issue persists after checking and installingupdates, you can manually download the applicable updates using the links below. To identify which version of windows you have, press the start menu and type "winver" and press enter, this should return a windows as seen below

If you are experiance issues even after installing the update, you can try rebuilding the index database.
Press the start menu and search for indexing options
click on advanced
select rebuild
If you are still experiencing issues after all of the aboveyou can completely disable indexing within outlook by running a command
To run a command, press the start menu and search for "CMD", right click on command prompt and select Run As Administrator
then paste this command below in 1 line and click enter
REG ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search /v PreventIndexingOutlook /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
