Mr. Robert Newman is employed at Covington & Burling in the position of Partner. He is a partner in the firm's employee benefits practice group. He represents clients ranging from small employers to some of the nation's largest employers, including for-profit and tax-exempt entities. He is the author of 'The Effectiveness of an Unpublished Rule,' 1995 Ann. Surv. Am. L. 1 (1995), and co-author of 'Age Discrimination in Cash Balance Plans: Another View,' 19 Va. Tax. Rev. 763 (Spring 2000) and 'Stock Options - You Can't Take Them With You,' 2 Public Company Advocate 4 (July 1999). In 1992 he received a B.A., magna cum laude, from Brown University in History and Judaic Studies. In 1996 he received a J.D., magna cum laude , Order of the Coif, from New York University School of Law. Prior to joining the firm, he clerked for Chief Judge Alan Kay of the Federal District Court for Hawaii.
