Dr. Michael Karavitis, Ph.D. has been Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Cutera, Inc. since August 21, 2017. Prior to returning to Cutera, Dr. Karavitis served as Chief Technology Officer at Femtoblanc, Inc. As an expert in multiple specialties impacting modern laser and light-engine design, Dr. Karavitis engineered the next generation of femtosecond lasers at Femtoblanc. He served as Vice President of Research and Development at Cutera, Inc. from 2012 to August 5, 2015. Dr. Karavitis led a team of engineers and scientists at various successful early to mid-stage companies, including LenSx (acquired by Alcon), Newport Corporation and Intralase Corporation (acquired by Advanced Medical Optics). He holds multiple patents and is the author of several publications in the fields ranging from laser science to biotechnology. He oversees engineering and research and development activities at CUTERA. An expert in multiple specialties impacting modern laser and light-engine design, Michael leads an experienced team of scientists and engineers. Leveraging his experience in ultra-fast and ultra-short pulse generation laser engine development, Michael is a key driver of CUTERA's picosecond laser platform. Prior to CUTERA, he served as Director of Laser Research, Development and Engineering at Alcon LenSx. Earlier in his career, Michael was a scientist at Newport Corporation as well as Intralase Corporation. Dr. Karavitis graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry from Indiana University and then completed his M.S. as well as Ph.D. in Chemical and Material Physics from the University of California, Irvine. He is the named inventor in 10 U.S. patents and is the author of 17 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
