When viewing a note you will observe a button labeled "Mark As..." in the lower right corner; pressing that button will open a sub-menu where you will have several choices and at the bottom of the list will be the option to mark the note as 'spam'. Using this button will move the note into a special administrative area where our staff will be able to review it. Or you can report spammers here by contacting the Help Desk and including the deviant's username in your report. If you have received a note which is abusive then you should consider reporting it to our customer service center. The customer service agent who assists you will also need you to use the "Mark As Spam" button on the note(s) in question so they can then directly review it, so be certain not to delete the note until they've been able to do this. Once the note has been reviewed you may receive additional instructions or advice in addition to any administrative action which may be taken.

Using Artwork
DeviantArt possesses no ownership claim in any submission and cannot grant you any license or permission for use, only the artist may do so. All original works found in the DeviantArt galleries are the copyrighted property of the submitting artist. If you want to use a work you will need to ask permission from the artist, who is free to set whatever terms and conditions they wish. You should always ask permission before using any work which was created by another artist. To contact a member of DeviantArt, you may use whatever contact information the artist may have provided on their profile page, or you may send a personal note to the artist if you have your own DeviantArt account. Stock submissions and certain submissions marked with a Creative Commons License already have certain terms and conditions attached and can be used without directly contacting the artist providing that you obey the rules set for each work (which may vary from work to work and from artist to artist). Unfortunately, DeviantArt cannot grant permission on behalf of any artist to use their works.
Purchasing Items
If you are interested in a print or a downloadable file of the image, please be sure to look in the right hand column of the deviation page for the "Buy This Print" and "Purchase" options which the artist may have made available. Otherwise, you should make your request directly to the artist. Frequently the artist will provide external contact information on his or her profile page. If you have the username of an artist you want to contact, you may get to their profile and prints pages by entering username.deviantart.com or username.deviantart.com/store; replacing username with the actual username of the artist. If you are a DeviantArt member, you may also try using the note system or you could place your request in a comment under the image on the deviation page. For privacy reasons we cannot provide other contact information for the artist or the artist's real name if they are not available on his or her Profile page.
View ArticleSometimes a provider blocks our emails or sends them to the spam folder. If you have not received the lost password email here is what you can do, if the email is not in your Spam or Bulk Mail folder. 1.) Please try using your email provider's search engine to search for any emails from [email protected] to make sure it's not simply misplaced. If you are unable to locate the email this way please try to the next step. 2.) If your provider has a Spam or Bulk Mail setting you can try setting this to the lowest possible setting. Once done please request a new email be sent to it. If this does not clear up the issue, you will want to try the next step. 3.) If you have tried the above steps or your provider has no Spam or Bulk Mail folder, you will want to contact the Help Desk by email via [email protected], for further assistance. You may also want to consider if the lost password email is sending to the email address you believe it should be. If you haven't updated the email address in your settings page in awhile you may want to read over the following :faq659:
View ArticleRarely the lost password process generates a batch of corrupt keys. If you suspect this is the case, please do not attempt to use the same key twice, as it will only state it is invalid a second time. Please instead wait 24 hours then request another confirmation code. If you have waited 24 hours and you still experience this issue, please contact the Help Desk by email via [email protected], for further assistance. Be sure to mention you have tried the step listed here or you will only be redirected back to this entry.
View ArticleEmail providers or domains can sometimes be blocked if they are found to be exploited for abusive purposes. This is often done with email providers who specialize in temporary or disposable email addresses. Often spammers or other troublesome individuals use these addresses for account creation and cause enough of a problem for the entire email provider to be blocked. If you were attempting to use a temporary or disposable address to create your account then please switch to an address from a more reputable email provider. If you have received this message and have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact [email protected].

View ArticleIMPORTANT - It has come to our attention that many users after uploading an image file are forgetting to click on OK at the bottom of the screen after they have uploaded their file or are clicking on reset after uploading a new file. Please note that 'Reset' should only be clicked on if you wish to revert your avatar to the default DeviantArt avatar. If you have clicked on reset or forgotten to click on OK at the bottom of the page the information below will not apply to you. If you did not receive an error message of any type when submitting your file, it has been uploaded successfully. To be assured your file was uploaded you may wish to try clearing your cache. You may also try the trick below; but only if your file was an Avatar. To do this simply load the following URL in your browser and follow the next steps. http://a.deviantart.net/avatars/*/**/yourusername.*** Replace the * with the first letter of your username, and the ** with the second letter of your username, and yourusername with your actual username, and depending on what format your avatar is in *** to GIF, JPEG or PNG. The cached image will load immediately. Once it's loaded press the "refresh" button in the browser and watch your new picture be displayed. If you have tried the above steps and they did not work, there is probably a server lag and your image will be updated as soon as the servers catch up. There may also be delays when resetting your image files.

View ArticleWhy They Exist First, it is important to note that there are two "types" of Official DeviantArt Contests. #1 - contests completely run by DeviantArt #2 - contests sponsored by outside companies It's important to note that the contests run completely by DeviantArt have always been inclusive of all deviants regardless of geographic location, so everything after this point is in regards to type #2 - the contests sponsored by outside companies. Throughout the year, our advertising group works very hard to try and bring a variety of creative, fun, exciting contests to DeviantArt via a number of big brand advertisers. While we try very diligently to encourage as many International contests as possible, the brand advertiser has final say and for a variety of reasons may opt for US only for reasons usually related to the advertisers budget. Even though the brand or product, such as movie, appears international because it is available internationally, the part of the organization controlling the brand that is paying for the contest may be the U.S. based division of a larger company or only have rights to market in the U.S. Some of you may say, "But we are an international community and it makes no sense to run these US-only contests!!!" and we appreciate that feeling. But, truth be told, turning down US-only contests does not help us bring more International contest opportunities to the site. Some brand advertisers consider running a smaller focused US-only contest to "test the waters", and should we perform well it may mean being able to run an international contest in the future. Also, every brand advertiser contest helps to build our portfolio which helps us prove to companies that the DeviantArt community is THE place to bring their awesome contest!!! What We're Doing So what are we doing to improve the situation? We're building an awesome portfolio of previously run contests, the team is working very hard to bring as many international contests as possible, and we've improved communication to save the international deviant from frustration! How you say? There is a "US Only" notation in the top right of the contest article (see mockup below) the Community Relations Contest page Also, the will show :flagus: beside anything that is US Only. And last, but not least, we will continue to bring an array of DeviantArt, fully fun, open to everyone contests!

These options will only be available to you if you are the owner of the chatroom, or in a group that has the "admin" permission (see further down for more information).
Note that Privclass Group Names are case-sensitive. "Founders" is different than "founders" for example.Privclass Group Names have a limit of 20 characters.
Renaming an Existing Group
You can change the name of the existing default Groups (Banned, Guests, Members, Operators, Moderators, Founders) by using the /admin rename command:
/admin rename privclass OldName to NewName Example: /admin rename privclass Moderators to Awesome will rename the Moderators group to Awesome.
Creating a Customized Group
If you would like to create a customized privilege group in your chatroom (instead of renaming an existing group) then you need to follow these steps:
First, in the chatroom type: /admin create privclass YourGroup - This creates a new group called "YourGroup"
Next, to customise what your new group can and cannot do, click the "Chatroom Settings" link for your room, and select the tab of the new group. From here you can set the group up as you would for any other.
Now you can set where in the chatters list your new group will appear. By default, it will appear below the "Guests" but you can move it further up or down the listing using /admin update privclass YourGroup order=# where # is the level. The default groups are set to Banned at 1, Guests at 25, Members at 50, Operators at 75 and Founders at 99. 99 is the maximum value. If you want your new group to show above the Members group, give it a value of anywhere between 51 and 74. (You can see the existing order numbers by typing /admin show privclass)
Additional Basic Commands
There are also other commands that you may use, that cannot be currently accessed via the Chatroom Settings link:
/admin remove privclass GroupName - This removes the privilege class "Group Name".
/admin move users Members to NewGroup - Use this to move all the people from one group into another group. In this example, all the current "Members" of the chatroom would be moved into "NewGroup".
/admin rename privclass OldName to NewName - This will change the name of the group OldName to NewName, and will keep all the same settings and members of that group.
/admin show privclass - This will show you all of the groups in your chatroom, and which options they have. If you want to know the options for just one group, add the group name to the end of the command.
/admin show users - This will show you the users in each group. If you want to see the users in just one group, add the name to the end
The last two commands listed can be used by anyone (without +admin privilege).
All Privileges Explained
To modify what a group can or cannot do, add one or more of following options after the group name in either the /admin create privclass GroupName command or the /admin update privclass GroupName command.
The privilege options are: order The number that appears to the left of each privclass name when you do a /admin show privclass command is known as it's "order" value. For example, the default order value of the Members privclass is 50. Privclasses with higher order values are displayed closer to the top of the chatters list. By default, the Founders privclass has the highest order number (99), so it always appears at the top of the listing. This "order" value also has significance with the "promote" and "demote" privileges. It can be set using "order=#" where # is a number between 2 and 99.Example:/admin update privclass Guests order=60Running this command would give the Guest privclass an order value of 60 which would move it between the Operator and Members privclasses in the chatters list. join This describes whether members of the privclass can join the chatroom. It can be set to "+join" for can join, and "-join" for cannot join. The "Banned" privclass by default has this set to "-join".Example:/admin update privclass Members -joinThe result of running this command would be that users in the Members privclass can no longer join the chatroom. title This describes whether members of the privclass can change the title by using the /title command. It can be set to "+title" for they can, and "-title" for they cannot. The title is the area above the chat window at the very top where you can post information about the chatroom. There is very little difference between the "title" and the "topic" (see below), but typically the title is used for information that rarely changes (links to the chatroom rules for example).Example:/admin update privclass Operators -titleThe result of running this command would be that users in the Operators privclass can no longer change the title. topic This describes whether members of the privclass can set the topic using the /topic command. It can be set to "+topic" for they can, and "-topic" for they cannot. The topic is the area of the chat screen displayed below the title.Example:/admin update privclass Guests +topicThe result of running this command would be that users in the Guests privclass can now change the topic. promote This describes which level members of the privclass can promote other users to using the /promote command. You can either use the level value or the name of the privclass to set this (eg: "promote=50" or "promote=Members")Example:/admin update privclass Operators promote=FoundersThis would allow users in the Operators privclass to promote users to the Founders privclass. demote This describes which level members of the privclass can demote other users to by using the /demote command.. View ArticleA Daily Deviation is a feature, selected by Community Volunteers or Staff Members, from the galleries here on DeviantArt. An assortment of submissions are chosen each day by this select group of staff and volunteer members who wish to showcase artwork they have found impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the community-at-large. Individual staff/volunteers may show different levels of activity which may lead to certain genres or types of artwork to be chosen more often than others. If you believe that a certain type of artwork is being overlooked or under-represented please feel free to offer suggestions by noting :devmoonbeam13:. NOTE: Anyone can suggest a daily deviation and self-suggesting is not only allowed, but encouraged. :note: Guidelines :bulletred: There is a "6-month rule" which means an artist cannot receive another DD if they have had one in the last 6 months. :bulletred: Daily Deviation selectors are limited to a maximum of one selection per day. This has been put in place to focus on quality vs quantity. :bulletred: If there is no one assigned to an area you want to suggest a DD to, please note :devmoonbeam13: with your DD suggestion. :bulletred: Please only suggest to only ONE person, do not send the same suggestion to multiple people - it causes great confusion - Thank you! View ArticleSenior Members of DeviantArt are selected by a selection committee comprised of DeviantArt Staff members. Announcements are made throughout the year and during special, celebratory events such as our birthday. So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognize their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Some have gained Seniority because of their community spirit, providing help and assistance to many other deviants and taking time out to promote the work of others in the community. Some people have received Seniority because of their artistic endeavour, having a positive influence on their peers by sharing resources, providing constructive criticism and by being a voice that stands out above the many others who deviate to be recognised in the crowd. If you come across someone who you believe should be considered for Seniority in our community, please make your suggestion via this form

There are Core Memberships, which will add convenience features to ones account, such as a full featured journal and message centre and more. However Core Memberships are not necessary in order to interact with artists, all the basic functionality is available for accounts without Core Memberships as well.

Thumbnails on the Chat Network or Forums
Thumbnails of your deviations can be posted in chatrooms where the owner of the chatroom has enabled that privilege.
To post a thumbnail, open a deviation from your gallery. On the right hand side under the deviation, you will notice sharing options (Facebook, Twitter, etc). Beside that is an arrow pointing down. Simply click that to reveal the thumbnail code. Copy the code which is in the box and paste that into the chatroom where you normally type.
You can also simply drag-and-drop a deviation into the chat window which is in your Collection(s) by using the Collection dropdown button.
To post a thumbnail of a print:
You need to use the :shop#: notation, where # is the number of the print in which you wish to display.
For instance, if you view a print you will notice a number at the end of the URL, for example http://www.deviantart.com/print/104506/. To display this print in thumb form you would simply type :shop104506:
View ArticleBy using the /whois command, you can find out what rooms a person is in, how long they have been connected, and how long they have been idle.
To use the command, type:
/whois username
Example: /whois darklylit
If you see the following: get error: darklylit (bad namespace) This means that the user you are searching for is not currently on the Chat Network.
View ArticleThere are two methods to join multiple chatrooms in one browser. Both result in one browser window with convenient chat tabs at the top:
While in a current chatroom, you can join another by typing /join channelname (without the quotes) in the text area where you normally chat.
While in a chatroom, you can click the +more button that is located at the top of the chat window by the chat tab. This will open a list of chatrooms to choose from whereby you can then simply click on the name of an additional chatroom you wish to join.
