Diversity and Inclusion at Ecolectro

• DEI is everyone’s job. There is nobody in the company who is exempt from this work or unimportant to it.

• We don’t “perform” DEI, we practice it. There are vibrant communities discussing DEI, particularly on social media and the internet. While we should approach their contributions with a learning mindset— we won’t implement a particular practice just because someone with many followers calls for it. While we may socialize authentic efforts and progress (internally or externally), we will never be performative.

• We prioritize marginalized people’s safety over privileged people’s comfort. While it is often uncomfortable to have your behavior or attitudes examined, we can’t mistake this discomfort as equivalent to being on the receiving end of bias, discrimination, or harmful behaviors as a marginalized. Those on certain axis’ of diversity (IE: race, gender, identity as disabled, etc) often struggle with institutionalized discrimination in society and unconscious bias in workplaces – and we must prioritize the work we do to avoid this.

• We treat each other with respect. The core of inclusivity is treating each other as valued team members deserving of mutual respect. We can’t cultivate an inclusive environment if respectful interpersonal interactions are not the default — even if these interpersonal conflicts don’t have DEI issues at their core.

• It’s a continuous journey. The benefits of diversity won’t be realized over the long term unless we also consistently and effectively strive to do better. We must also acknowledge societal norms are continually evolving, and so we must too.
