  • Have a Google Classroom account but having trouble finding your class on Edpuzzle?

No worries - its an easy fix and typically comes down to one of these three common situations:

    1. You're not logged into Edpuzzle with the same email registered to your Google Classroom.

If you're logged into the wrong account, log out and log back in with the correct email associated with yourGoogle Classroom. Make sure to log in by clicking "Log in with Google."

If you don't know which email this is, ask your teacher what email they have on their end.

    2. You created a new account by accident using an email different from your Google Classroom email.

Similar to the above solution, log out then log into Edpuzzle under the correct email. Make sure to log in by clicking "Log in with Google" andselecting the email address associated with your Google Classroom account.

    3. You're not on the Google Classroom roster or weren't on the roster when the class was imported.

To fix this, your teacher must invite you to their Google Classroom first before going to Edpuzzle and syncing the classrooms. Please ask your teacher to check out the article below on how to do this.

If you're still having trouble, ask your teacher to contact the support team at Edpuzzle well be happy to help!

Note for Teachers: Google Classroom connected classes don't have a class code. If your student is being asked for a class code, please refer to this article: https://support.edpuzzle.com/hc/en-us/articles/360009936312.

To find this information, open a new tab or window and log in to or sign up for Edpuzzle (see our article on how to create an account ).

Click on your circular profile icon in the upper right-hand corner, select your name from the dropdown menu to go to your profile, then click on the School tab ( https://edpuzzle.com/profile?tab=school ).

In the LMS dropdown menu at the bottom of the page, select Canvas.

If the consumer key and shared secret are already filled out, skip to step 13. If not, you'll need to enter the domain.

The domain is the URL you use to access Canvas (hint: this is usually in the format of "yourschoolname.instructure.com").

Once you've filled out the domain, click the Generate button to get your consumer key and shared secret.

    Now go back to Canvas.

Enter the fields for Consumer Key and Shared Secret and click the blue Add App button.

Refresh the page, and now Edpuzzle will appear in your list of external apps!

If this doesnt work, just ask your IT admin to follow these exact same steps from their Admin panel in Canvas. You may not have permission as a teacher to add external apps.

Once Edpuzzle has been added to Canvas, all you need to do is select the course of your choice and then click on Edpuzzle in the side menu. Youll be prompted to log in or sign up and away you go your Edpuzzle class is all set up!

II. How to Assign a Video Lesson on Canvas

To assign an Edpuzzle video lesson on Canvas:

Go to Courses and choose the course youd like to assign an edpuzzle for.

Select Assignments from the white menu bar on the left.

Click the blue + Assignment button.

Click the blue Assign button, which will return you to the Configure External Tool pop-up.

Click the blue Select button to confirm your assignment and close the pop-up.

Now your video lesson will appear in your list of assignments on Canvas!Your students will start to appear as they click on the assignment link.

Best of all, once students complete the lessons their grades will automatically sync with Canvas!

Note: If you're a teacher using the Canvas app, please note that you won't be able to view edpuzzles using a mobile. On the other hand, you can watch edpuzzles if you're using a tablet.

III. How Students Can Use Edpuzzle Through Canvas

Your students will be able to log in to their Canvas accounts and complete your Edpuzzle video lessons right from there! Here are some things to keep in mind depending on the device they're using:

For desktop: Students simply need to log in to Canvas and click on the assignment(s) to view your edpuzzles.

For tablets: Students can use the Canvas app to view your edpuzzles.

For mobile: Students will need to use both the Canvas and Edpuzzle apps. When they go to watch an edpuzzle through the Canvas app, they'll get a pop-up prompting them to download the Edpuzzle app if they haven't already, or if they have, students will be asked to open it in the Edpuzzle app. When they're finished, they can return to the Canvas app.

IV. Troubleshooting the Edpuzzle Integration on Canvas

Here are some common issues that may come up as you're using the Edpuzzle integration with Canvas and how to solve them.

    Invalid Canvas Domain

This issue occurs when the Canvas domain that has been registered to Edpuzzle doesn't match the actual domain on Canvas.

The Canvas domain is the URL address that refers to the accounts for a specific school. It sometimes looks like: "yourschoolname.instructure.com" but can take other forms in some configurations.

Please contact [email protected] with the following information:

    Your consumer key.

    The correct Canvas domain.

To find your Canvas domain, please open your Canvas account and look at the browsers address bar. That URL is the domain. (*If your school uses more than one Canvas domain, contact us at the support email address listed above.)

To find the consumer key, follow these steps:

    In Edpuzzle, visit your profile.

    Go to the "School" tab.

Scroll down to the section "LMS LTI integration" and select Canvas from the LMS dropdown.

The consumer key will appear below the domain field.

Where can I find student projects?

At the moment, the student projects feature is unavailable with the Canvas integration.

Why aren't my sections appearing in Edpuzzle?

If you've set up various sections of the same class in Canvas, when you look at your Gradebook on Edpuzzle, all of the students will appear as if they were in the same class. This is because we don't have a sections feature on Edpuzzle, but don't worry your sections and gradebook in Canvas will still work perfectly!

Canvas Features That Aren't Available With the Edpuzzle Integration

A few features aren't supported with the Edpuzzle Canvas Integration. These include:

Speed grader. You can still easily grade your students' answers by going to the assignment and clicking on "X answers to be graded."

Reusing, cloning or importing a previous class. For Edpuzzle assignments, this feature isn't currently available.

  • If youre not sure of your class code for Edpuzzle, don'tworry! There are two ways to get into the class:

If your teacher has shared a link or an embedded video with you, simply click on it and click Join once the pop-up appears.

If you don't have a link or video, youll need to ask your teacher or another classmate for the code. Let them know that they can find it here:

Teachers: By clicking the "Invite students" button in the upper right-hand corner of the "My Classes" page.

Classmates: On the "My Classes" page, in the upper right-hand corner.

If your classmate doesn't see a class code, please ask your teacher to check if you're enrolled in the same class in Google Classroom. Also double-check to make sure the email on your Edpuzzle account and your Google Classroom account match, otherwise you'll need to log out and log back in with the correct email.

If you haven't done so already, check out our article for help on how to create an account.

IV. Troubleshooting the Edpuzzle Integration With Schoology

Here are some common issues that may come up as you're using the Edpuzzle integration with Schoology and how to solve them.

Linked classes. If you're teaching the same class to multiple sections/periods, you may be using linked classes on Schoology. Be aware that if you're viewing your students in Edpuzzle, they'll all appear in one large class rather than in your separate linked classes (however, your grades will be sorted correctly in Schoology, so don't worry).

Another side effect is that you should NOT use the dropdown menu in Schoology to click on your different sections, since all the students will appear in the same class (the first section listed). If you accidentally use the dropdown menu and click on another section, this will create a new class, which you'll need to delete by selecting "Class options" and "Delete class" or by going to Edpuzzle and deleting the section with no assignments.

Students are being asked to verify their email addresses. When you set up the Edpuzzle integration, if you didn't click "Course admins only" (see section I, step 4), your students will be asked to verify their email addresses. You'll need to go back and repeat the installation process in section I, this time making sure to select the checkbox for "Course admins only."

Ican'tsee my students names. This can happen if there's a configuration error with the integration between Edpuzzle and Schoology. Contact us at [email protected] and we'll help you fix the issue!

  • The Edpuzzle flipped classroom basically consists of assigning your students video lessons to watch at home and using class time for more meaningful activities. Students learn the basic concepts of the lesson at home using Edpuzzle videos, which they can watch at their own pace. This gives the teacher more time in the classroom to work on other activities that will reinforce students' understanding of the topic. Edpuzzle makes the flipped classroom work. Keep reading to learn how!

    Math or science

Math and science are usually taught in two parts: theory and practice. Many teachers complain that the curriculum is so broad that they spend most of their time covering the theory and never have enough time to incorporate problem-solving or projects that allow them to apply their knowledge. Here are a few ways that videos can help:

Assign videos about basic theory. We've created tons of videos covering basic theories in all subjects. You can find them in the "Curriculum" section. Assign one of these pre-prepared lessons to watch at home and use class time to clear up any doubts or push the students to learn key concepts in more depth. Students can watch as many times as they need to, so there's no need to use class time explaining the concept.

Use videos to show how to solve problems.Assign a video explaining the basic process to solve a problem, giving your students the chance to practice before coming to class. You can then use class time for a more challenging version of the same problem.

Engage your students with videos.Share documentaries, lab experiments or any other videos to surprise and engage your students. Collect the questions/reactions/opinions they may have while watching the video and use that data to drive your time in the classroom.

Share class rules via video.Usually, teachers spend a lot of time explaining and repeating class rules (behavior, lab security). Record a video and embed questions to check for understanding. You can use the same video every year, saving you time.

    Languages

Teaching a language is a huge challenge. Reading, writing, speaking and listening ... teaching them all in a limited amount of time is almost impossible. However, video lessons and the flipped classroom will make your life much easier. Here's how:

Check for listening comprehension.Forget about CDs you can use any video available on YouTube and embed questions to check for understanding. Include open-ended questions to work on writing skills or multiple-choice for vocabulary checks.

Start a debate.Share an interesting topic using a video from YouTube. You can embed an open-ended question asking for their point of view and use those responses to start a debate in class.

Use videos to simulate travel. You may not be able to physically take your students to a country where the language is spoken, but you can go there virtually with a video, allowing them to explore the culture and listen to native speakers.

Share new grammar and vocabulary. There are thousands of videos that cover grammar rules or vocabulary. Use Edpuzzle to let the students learn these concepts at home and use the time in the classroom for practice.

    Social studies

Social studies standards are constantly changing and are so broad that it's hard to cover all the necessary curriculum with a limited amount of time. It's also hard to be an expert in every area. Use Edpuzzle to:

Bring in the experts. There are plenty of expert TED Talks available on a wide variety of social studies topics. You can assign these videos to watch at home and ask the students for their point of views or to summarize the content. Use class time to develop key ideas or answer any questions.

Bring books to life.Use videos to enhance the content students read. Reinforce topics they've just learned or build on that topic using digital content. There are great resources already available online. You can embed a few questions to check for understanding, and use class time to discuss and share.

Turn your slides into videos. There are many online tools that enable you to quickly record slide presentations and upload them to Edpuzzle. You can now assign your lecture as homework, and you can use the time saved in the classroom to answer questions or work on projects.

Free tutor for your students. There are excellent video resources on Edpuzzle that are free to use. With one click, you can use the fantastic videos from Crash Course or Khan Academy to give your students an alternative way of learning the concepts covered in class or reinforce particular topics. With Edpuzzle, you can hold your students accountable and easily identify any questions or concerns.

    Special education

Special education students need individual attention, but it can be hard to cover the curriculum and provide extra one-on-one time with the students. Here are some ways Edpuzzle can help:

Create learning stations. We recommend putting together two or three stations and rotating your students. For your video station, equip your students with headphones and have one or more videos ready. By using headphones and visual resources like videos, the students enhance their focus and retention of information. The other stations can have worksheets, hands-on projects, or involve one-on-one time with the teacher. That will give you extra time to provide individual attention to your students.

Discuss behaviors. Many special education teachers spend a lot of time explaining real-world scenarios. It may be hard for your students to visualize that specific situation or the context. Using video lessons can provide a visual example of a particular social situation.

    Other

No matter what subject you teach, you can take advantage of Edpuzzle to harness the power of videos in your classes. You can also use Edpuzzle for:

Substitute teachers. If you're sick or traveling and you want your students to continue learning even when you're not there, you can assign a few video lessons to complete while the substitute teacher is there. You can hold them accountable, read their responses, and continue without interruption when you get back.

Creating an in-class flipped classroom. If some students don't have access to the internet at home or you want them to take advantage of the laptops/tablets available in the classroom, we strongly recommend this method. The in-class flipped classroom is a rotation station model where one of the stations is for viewing Edpuzzle video lessons. Every 15-20 minutes (2-3 videos) the students will move to the next station. You can set up different stations where the students learn the same concept using different approaches: peer-to-peer learning, writing/practice problems, teacher lecture, project-based learning or hands-on experiments.

ASL. American Sign Language teachers love video lessons because it's a visual resource to learn how to sign. What's more, the fact that you can embed questions ensures that the student understands the context of the conversation or the meaning of a specific sign. You can even assign the video to watch at home and then monitor student progress and viewing history.

Physical Education.Coaches and PE teachers love video lessons and have been using them for many years to review techniques and strategy, and motivate their students. With Edpuzzle, you can finally hold these athletes and students accountable. You can use a video that explains the basic rules of a sport that you want to practice with your students, or you can assign a specific offensive play that you want to cover during practice. The possibilities are endless!

Professional Development. Teachers are also students, but when it's time to do professional development, you're probably tired or thinking about the million other things you have to work on. You can flip PD by assigning videos to watch at home and use class time to respond to questions and allow teachers time to plan how they'd like to implement new concepts in their classroom. You can supervise the work and brainstorm with them.

Music. Videos are an excellent audio resource. Many music teachers use Edpuzzle to cover instruments or musicals. Depending on your students' level, you can assign videos to practice at home and use the class time to practice as a team.

    Tips

In a flipped classroom, it's important to understand two things that we'll explain more in depth:

Students love YouTube, but learning from a video is a skill they need to develop.

    Change requires patience.

Teach students how to learn from a video lesson

We strongly recommend explaining your objective in flipping the classroom to your students, their parents, other teachers and your principal. If they understand the final goal, it will be easier to get them on board.

During the first classes, you can assign videos to watch in the classroom. You can either watch as a group or have students watch individually. Identify and celebrate desirable learning behaviors before the video, like pausing the video, rewatching certain parts of the video to improve understanding, how to sit properly in front of the laptop and how to take notes.

Then, once the students have practiced a few times with the video and understand the behavior expected of them, we strongly recommend assigning one or two videos per week to watch at home. Measure the number of assignments completed and get feedback from the students on the length of the video, the difficulty of the questions and the content of the lesson.

After one or two units you won't want to go back to the traditional way of teaching!

    Change takes time

Many teachers think that they have to flip all their lessons. That's simply not true. We recommend flipping one or two units your first year and working in a few more in the second.

Having someone else in your department or school that wants to flip their class is also very helpful. Sharing content and best practices make the whole process much easier.

Students might be reluctant at the beginning - they have to pay attention to the video and respond to questions, and it's no longer an easy passive experience for them. However, in the long run, students will start to see the change in their understanding and grades. Don't give up you will see results!

  • To see your students' progress on a video, that video must be assigned to a class and your students must be using the proper type of device to watch it.

It's possible to share a video without assigning it, but you won't be able to see students' progress. If you want to assign a video, embed to an external site, and track progress, you can do so by following these steps:

Assign a video to a class.

Go to the "My Classes" tab and click on the assignment.

Click "Share assignment" on the right side of the page.

Use the assignment linkor embed code to post it to your site.

Note: When students use these links or go to your external site, they'll be asked to log in so we can identify who is doing the assignment before they can watch the video and answer the questions. Students must have an Edpuzzle account for this option.

Another reason that your students' progress might not be showing up is if they're not using the right tools. We usually recommend that students watch videos using:

    1. iPhone and iPads: iOS App

    2. Android Smartphone or Tablet: Android App

    3. Laptops and desktop computers with Chrome (latest version)

If you've assigned a video and your students are using the correct type of device, but you still don't see their progress, please email us at [email protected] we'll look into the issue!

  • With Edpuzzle, importing the grades from an assignment is a breeze. In fact, it's virtually automatic!

Below you'll find more detailed information about exporting grades for your specific LMS.

    Google Classroom

Grades are exported automatically for your students when they complete an assignment and you grade all of their answers. You can also manually export grades at any time by following these steps:

From the home screen, go to "My Classes."

Select the class from the menu on the left that you'd like to export grades for.

Select the assignment from the list of assignments.

From the menu on the right, click on "Export grades to LMS" and you're done!

Keep in mind that when you export your Edpuzzle grades to Google Classroom, they'll appear in one of two ways:

"Returned." This means that the assignment on Edpuzzle was completed by the student and graded by the teacher, including open-ended questions. This grade will be visible to the student on Google Classroom.Note that grades will be exported automatically once a student has completed an assignment and all the questions have been graded.

"Draft." This means that the assignment on Edpuzzle either was NOT completed by the student or that the teacher still has questions to grade. This grade will NOT be visible to the student on Google Classroom.

To change the grade from "Draft" to "Returned" so the student can see it, you can simply type in the grade in Google Classroom and change the status manually to "Returned."

Note: When you export Edpuzzle grades, don't worry if they appear as "Not turned in" on Google Classroom. This is simply because students didn't have to manually turn in the assignment on Google Classroom since you exported their grades for them from Edpuzzle.

    Canvas, Schoology and Moodle

Grades are exported automatically for all the assignments you create directly from your LMS. Just click on the course and go to the gradebook. Here are the steps to view your gradebook for each LMS:

On Canvas and Moodle, click on the "Grades" tab.

    On Schoology, click on "Gradebook."

Once in the gradebook, a dash or a white space means that the student hasn't completed the assignment yet. Open-ended answers will count as a "0" until you correct them.

Grades on Edpuzzle range from 0-100. On your LMS, however, you can configure how many points you want to award each assignment, and the gradebook will automatically make the conversion.

You can also manually change your students' grades in the gradebook, but those changes won't be visible on Edpuzzle.

To reset the progress for one of your students, follow these steps:

Go to the assignment in your LMS.

In the Edpuzzle window, find the student, click on the "..." button next to the student's name and click "Reset progress."

Now, to make this change show up in your LMS gradebook, go back to the assignment view on Edpuzzle and click "Export grades to LMS." This will manually sync the grades to reflect the changes.

If you need any additional help exporting grades to your LMS, don't hesitate to contact us at [email protected].

  • What is parental consent? Privacy laws and/or regulations often require that parents (or legal guardians) consent to or are notified prior to their child's personally identifiable information (PII) being disclosed to a third party.

In the field of edtech, this means that teachers and schools must have proven parental consent before students provide any personal information to third parties, like Edpuzzle. The fact that teachers cannot invite students to their Edpuzzle classrooms without confirming parental consent, combined with the impossibility of creating a student account without a unique class code or link, ensures that Edpuzzle does not collect any data it should not be allowed to collect.

When is it necessary to obtain parental consent?

As a general rule, parental consent may apply to different age ranges depending on state or regional law.

In the United States, student privacy is primarily governed by two federal laws: the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

FERPA generally prohibits schools from disclosing personally identifiable information from a student's education records to a third party without written consent from the parent (or the student if over age 18). At the same time, however, FERPA allows for exceptions under which student PII may be shared without consent. One of these exceptions is the "school official exception," under which schools may share student PII with designated school officials with a legitimate educational interest. Third parties may be considered school officials if they are performing a service for which the school would otherwise use employees. Schools define who constitutes a school official with a legitimate educational interest in their annual notification of rights under FERPA.

COPPA protects children under the age of 13 who use commercial websites, online games and mobile apps. While schools have an obligation to make sure the services their students use treat the data they collect responsibly, COPPA ultimately places the responsibility on the online service operator. At the same time, COPPA generally does not apply when a school has hired a website operator to collect information from students for educational purposes for use by the school. In those instances, the school (not an individual teacher) can provide consent on behalf of the students when required, as long as the data is used only for educational purposes.

In the European Union, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) states that the processing of a child's PII is only lawful when the child is at least 16 years old, although it allows for Member States to lower the age provided that it is not below age 13. Currently, the age limits are the following:

Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Romania and Slovakia: minors under 16.

France, Czech Republic, Greece and Slovenia: minors under 15.

Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus and Spain: minors under 14.

Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Sweden and the UK: minors under 13.

According to the GDPR, schools are considered data controllers and are responsible for ensuring that student data is processed accordingly. In other words, schools from the EU must obtain parental consent prior to disclosing PII to any third-party service provider from children under the age limit determined by each Member States law.

In Canada, according to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), consent is valid only if it is reasonable to expect that the student whose personal information is collected would understand the nature, purpose and consequences of the collection, use or disclosure to which they are consenting. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) has taken the position that, in all but exceptional circumstances, this means anyone over the age of 13. In other words, disclosure of PII of children under age 13 must be previously authorized by the children's parents or legal guardian.

Where do I get it from? Contacting your IT admin or anyone at your school responsible for data protection should be the very first step. If you are not part of a school or in the unlikely event that your school will not take care of parental consent, you should request it for EVERY student that you invite to Edpuzzle.

What if I don't need parental consent or am exempt from obtaining it?

If you are not planning to use Edpuzzle with students in the above-mentioned age ranges, parental consent is not required in your case, or any legal exemption applies to the obtainment of parental consent, you can simply select the "No, its not required by my local laws(e.g., because of my students' age or legal exemptions)." option when asked if you have parental consent.

    Parental consent permission slip templates

For schools in the United States or the European Union/EEA, respectively, Edpuzzle provides a template to help schools obtain parental consent, where applicable (attached to this article).

Nevertheless, its up to schools to determine how best to use the template, to complete it with their own contact information and information about the services they enable, and to share it along with Edpuzzles Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

SCHOOLS IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES AND COMMUNITIES HAVE DIFFERENT REGULATIONS AND APPROACHES, AND EDPUZZLE CANNOT ADVISE YOU ON COMPLIANCE WITH THE LAWS APPLICABLE TO YOUR SCHOOL. YOU SHOULD OBTAIN ANY PARENTAL CONSENT THAT MAY BE REQUIRED BY YOUR SCHOOL IN A MANNER THAT COMPLIES WITH THE LAWS OF YOUR JURISDICTION.

Have questions about parental consent? Dont hesitate to contact us at [email protected].

  • If you or your students are having trouble accessing YouTube videos through Edpuzzle, take a look at this list of common issues and their solutions.

Issue #1: Your school is using a filter

If you get a white screen, sad face or a message that says The connection was reset when trying to watch a video, then your school needs to whitelist www.youtube.com for teachers and www.youtube-nocookie.com for students.

Contact your IT admin, and share our article on how to whitelist YouTube at your school as well as our spec sheet with them.

If thisisn'tpossible, you can assign the videos to watch at home, where your students will use their own internet connection.

Finally, you can always record and upload your own videos in My Content > Add Content > Upload a video.

    Issue #2: Restricted mode

If you get a message that says, Video unavailable. This video is restricted. Try signing in with a Google Apps account, youll need to check the following:

Make sure you approved the video on YouTube while logged in with your teacher account.

Log into YouTube with your teacher account and turn off restricted mode (at the bottom of your profile icons drop-down menu).

Have your students log in to youtube.com using the email address associated with their school accounts. Double-check thatthey'renot logged in with their personal account at accounts.google.com, and make surethey'relogged in on their Chromebooks or Chrome browser with their school account.

Share the Edpuzzle spec sheet with your IT admin to make sure there are no filter issues.

Issue #3: Student stillcan'tsee videos even after following the steps in issue #2

Very rarely, some studentsaren'table to view YouTube videos on Edpuzzle because of their channel configurations on YouTube. Your student will need to do the following:

    Visit https://www.youtube.com/account_advanced.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the DELETE CHANNEL button. This should solve the issue!

    Issue #4: Other restrictions

Occasionally, you may see a message that says, This video contains content from [...]. It is restricted from playback on certain sites Unfortunately, this means that the video is restricted for third-party sites, so youwon'tbe able to view it on Edpuzzle.

If you see the YouTube sad face and get a message that the content is unavailable, this could be because of copyright issues, geographic restrictions or because the uploader removed the video. Its not possible to view the video in these cases.

If YouTube isn't an option at your school:

You can upload your videos directly to Edpuzzle. You can do this by going to "My Content" > "Add Content" > "Upload a video." Uploaded videos won't be blocked. Watch this video to learn more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTngcULHIKU&t.

You can flip your class. This means that you assign the videos to watch at home and you get more time in the classroom.

  • Some videos on YouTube have subtitles or closed captions. If your video assignment has closed captions, you can enable them on Edpuzzle.

To enable closed captions, follow these easy steps:

Go to the video lesson you want to watch.

    Start playing the video.

Click on the "CC" button to enable subtitles. Some videos have closed captions in multiple languages, so you can select the language of your choice.

Note: Not all YouTube videos have closed captions or subtitles which is why the "CC" button won't appear if these aren't available.

If you need closed captions, ask your teacher to use YouTube's advanced search to filter videos with closed captions when they search for class videos.

  • Edpuzzle has several features that empower teachers to hold their students accountable and make sure that they watch their assignments and understand the content.

    Allow / Prevent Skipping

Edpuzzles "Prevent Skipping" feature is a great tool to make sure your students watch the whole video you've assigned them.

To use this feature, check the Prevent Skipping slider as you assign the video. Now, when your student needs to finish watching a video later, they can go back to where they last left off but no further.

    Student Dashboard

You can also check the progress of each student on the videos you assigned them. To do this, open the student progress dashboard by:

    1. Clicking on "My Classes."

    2. Selecting the class you want to track.

    3. Clicking on the video assignment you want to track.

The student dashboard has two sections: "Students" and "Questions." In the "Students" section, you have an overview of how much every student has watched of the video, when they were last seen and when they turned in the assignment. Clicking on a student will provide individual data. If you have multiple-choice questions in your video, you'll also have a questions overview, where you can see how many students answered correctly. Click on a question to see the percentage of students who got the right or wrong answer.

    Automatic Video Pause

When your students start playing the video on Edpuzzle and switch tabs in their browser, the video will automatically pause until they go back to the Edpuzzle tab. This way, students must watch the video in order to complete the assignment and are not able to do other activities in their browser while the video is running.

  • With open classes, your students can join a class and complete assignments without an Edpuzzle account!

To create an open class, go to My Classes and click on Add new class. In the new window, add a name for your class and an optional description. Then, select Open under Class type. (Please note that once you choose your class type, you won't be able to change it.)

You can choose to allow your students to create their nicknames or have Edpuzzle automatically create them. If youdon'tcheck the box, students will be asked to enter a nickname when they join. (You can always change this later by clicking on the Class options button.)

To assign a video to an open class, you should follow the same steps as for a classic class. Visit My Content, choose a video and assign it to the class you want. For reference, open classes display the word OPEN to the right of the class name.

To invite students to the class, click on the "Invite students button in the upper right-hand corner of the class page. You can either share the link or class code with your students. Studentswon'tbe able to save their sessions, so if they leave your open class and then join again at a later time, theyll be treated as a new user.

In contrast with classic classes, open classesdon'thave a Student tab. This is because each assignment will generate its own list of students as they join your open class.

Open classes do not include the gradebook feature, but you will be able to see the progress for each individual assignment.
