A Eletrosul Centrais Elétricas S.A. é uma empresa subsidiária da Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras S.A. – Eletrobrás e vinculada ao Ministério de Minas e Energia. Foi constituída em 23/12/1968 e autorizada a funcionar pelo Decreto nº. 64.395, de 23/04/1969. É uma sociedade de economia mista de capital fechado, e atua nas áreas de geração e transmissão de energia elétrica. Sua sede está localizada em Florianópolis/SC e suas atividades abrangem os estados do Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul e Rondônia. Atende mais de 30 milhões e meio de habitantes que correspondem, aproximadamente, a 20% do mercado nacional de energia elétrica e a cerca de 18% do PIB - Produto Interno Bruto. Realiza estudos e projetos, constrói e opera instalações de transmissão e de geração de energia elétrica, investe em pesquisa e desenvolvimento, fomenta o uso de fontes alternativas de energia, presta serviços de telecomunicação e pratica outros atos de comércio decorrentes destas atividades.
