Dr. Steven J. Kafka, also known as Steve, Ph.D., serves as the Chief Operating Officer and President of Foundation Medicine, Inc. since May 2013 and March 23, 2015 respectively. Dr. Kafka served as Chief Business Officer of Foundation Medicine, Inc. since January 23, 2013 until May 2013. He has broad responsibility for business development and operational functions. He served as the Chief Operating Officer of Aileron Therapeutics, Inc since June 2011 until October 2012. He served as the Chief Financial Officer at Aileron Therapeutics Inc., since October 2009 until October 2012. He led Aileron's strategic and operational finance activities, directs corporate communications, human resources and operations and support its business development effort. He served as Vice President of Finance & Operations at Aileron Therapeutics Inc., since October 2009. He has business and strategy experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries with a focus on targeted therapies in oncology. He has more than 15 years of experience in finance, strategic planning, business development, operations, corporate communications and early commercial development. Dr. Kafka served as Vice President of Finance and Strategic Product Planning at Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since September 21, 2006. He was responsible for corporate financial planning and analysis, new product marketing, Strategic Product Planning and portfolio management. He joined Infinity from Millennium Pharmaceuticals, where he led the Financial Planning and Analysis group and served as a member of the VELCADE(R) leadership team where he helped to establish and oversee the product's commercial and development strategy. He served as Senior Director of Finance at Millennium Pharmaceuticals. Previously, he served as a Consultant and Senior Engagement Manager at Strategic Decisions Group (SDG), where he led efforts such as portfolio integration for the merger of two global pharmaceutical firms, portfolio strategy for the Japanese assets of a global pharmaceutical firm and product development strategy across multiple therapeutic areas. Dr. Kafka holds a Ph.D. in Political Economy and Government from Harvard University and an A.B. with Honors in Economics and Political Science from Stanford University.
