Diversity and Inclusion at Genesis Healthcare

Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee is represented by a broad representation of employees from varied backgrounds. Collectively, they ensure our core values, that represent our long standing culture of inclusion and respect, are fully embraced and practiced so that all employees feel valued and perform at their highest potential.

The committee is led by LaShuan Bethea J.D., M.Ed., BSN, RN, Vice President, Reimbursement & Legislative Affairs. For over a decade, LaShuan's role has primarily been focused on legislative and regulatory affairs but her background as a nurse and in advocacy made LaShuan a natural choice for our DEI committee Chair.

Genesis employees are passionate about DEI as over 320 applicants submitted their interest in one of 15 committee member seats when the formation of the DEI Committee was announced in June 2020. Those selected serve for two to three years so this was an overwhelming response for a multi-year commitment. Volunteers were made aware that their monthly committee meetings would be comprised of meaningful but sometimes uncomfortable conversations as these difficult exchanges lead to actionable change and growth.

In addition to drafting a DEI Charter that outlines the commitment of the organization to DEI initiatives, the DEI Committee is charged with developing a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion site on the Genesis intranet site. The site will contain a broad array of content such as educational materials, blog posts, and a calendar of dates of importance that reflect the diversity within our organization.
