General Questions
What is the Gliffy Confluence Plugin?
The Gliffy Plugin for Confluence enables you to create and edit diagrams from within the popular enterprise wiki, Confluence. The Gliffy Plugin is tightly integrated with Confluence so you can use the powerful diagramming capabilities of Gliffy seamlessly through your wiki.
Where is my data stored?
New diagrams are added as attachments to pages. This means that all of your data is stored in the same manner as any other content in your wiki. If you have backup procedures and network security setup for Confluence, all of these configurations will automatically apply to any Gliffy diagrams you create.
How hard is it to install the the Gliffy Confluence Plugin?
Installing the Gliffy Plugin for Confluence is quite easy! We have easy to follow instructions in our User Manual.
Where can I find more detailed documentation?
Please refer to our detailed User Manual.
Basic Functionality
Can I link to diagrams attached to other pages?
Yes! For further information, please check out this User Manual article.
Remove the Add Diagram link?
You must have Administrative access to remove the Add Diagram link. On the Administration>Plugins page, select Gliffy Plugin. Disable the module with the title - "Web Item to show Add Diagram link".
Search for a diagram in Confluence?
Whether you use the global search or just search within a single Confluence wiki, Gliffy diagrams will appear in your search results. You’ll see a thumbnail of the diagram and a link back to the attachments page where that diagram was created. Confluence gives more information on how to search here.
You can narrow any Confluence search to just your Gliffy diagrams with Confluence search syntax.
Every Gliffy diagram is tagged with com.gliffy.core.integration.confluence.isGliffyDoc. In order to search for just that index field, you need to set that field to true. If you wanted your search results to display every diagram in your Confluence instance, you would enter the following in the global search field:
com.gliffy.core.integration.confluence.isGliffyDoc:true
To search for diagrams containing a particular keyword, just add it to your search parameters. For example, if you wanted to search for a Gliffy diagram containing the word “peanut,” you would enter the following into the global search:
com.gliffy.core.integration.confluence.isGliffyDoc:true peanut

Licensing and Pricing
How much does it cost?
Pricing information for all Gliffy products can be found on our Pricing Page. For a direct quote, please contact Atlassian via the Atlassian Marketplace.
Do I get updates as you make improvements?
When you purchase a license, you are entitled to one year of software maintenance (product updates and support). You can renew maintenance after 12 months at 50\% of the original purchase price.
When does my software maintenance start?
Our policy is consistent with Atlassian's:
New license purchase: Your 12 month software maintenance period will commence from the date of payment confirmation.
Upgrade: Your 12 month software maintenance will commence from the date of payment confirmation and replaces any active software maintenance of the upgraded license.
Software maintenance renewal: Your 12 month software maintenance will commence from the expiration date of the previous maintenance period, regardless of when the maintenance renewal was purchased.
What happens when my maintenance period expires?
When you initially purchase our plugin, you have maintenance & support for a year from purchase date. During this time, you will have access to all of Gliffy's updates and new releases. You can get an idea of how often we improve our plugin and release here.
If your license has expired and you do not renew, you will no longer have access to any new updates/releases. You will however retain full functionality of the Gliffy plugin version you are running after expiration. However, functionality may change depending if your Gliffy version is no longer being supported by us or if you Gliffy version is no longer compatible with your Confluence version. You can view Atlassian's End of Life Policy here
What happens when I disable or unsubscribe from Gliffy for Confluence?
Unsubscribing from Gliffy for Confluence results in different behavior between Gliffy for Confluence Cloud and Gliffy for Confluence Server. In both cases, the following is applicable:
Diagram files (both the .GLIFFY and .PNG) remain within the specific pages and spaces in which they were created, as diagrams are treated as attachments by Confluence
Diagram images (.PNG files) will still be viewable as images, and are snapshots of the most recent version of the associated diagrams
In the event the Gliffy license is no longer valid, but Gliffy is still installed, diagrams will function normally. You will still be able toview diagrams, however without a valid license, you will no longer be able to edit diagrams any longer.
Completely removing Gliffy will cause diagrams to no longer display, as this disables the macros associated with Gliffy diagrams. Gliffy software must still be installed for macros to function properly. If the software is removed, you can simply add the associated .PNG file to the page as an image, which would allow the diagram's latest state to be viewable.
Do I need an additional license for each CPU running Confluence, or each Confluence installation?
Pricing is on a per installation basis. For example, if you have two installations of Confluence, and you wish to run the Gliffy Plugin for Confluence in both, you need to purchase two licenses. If you plan to run clustered Confluence, you need to purchase additional node licenses from Atlassian.

View ArticleProblem:
You have edited an existing Gliffy Diagram and when you try to save it you get a spinning wheel and the diagram never saves. Attempting to Export or Print this file also fails. This occurs most often in Chrome and sometimes opening Gliffy Online in another supported web browser such as Firefox will allow you to save your diagram. If it doesn’t or you want to continue using Chrome, the steps below will help you resolve the problem.
Why the Problem Occurs:
When you add a custom image to Gliffy a URL is added to the diagram source which points to the location of that custom image. When changes to the Gliffy infrastructure was made some custom images started breaking existing diagrams ability to function properly. This problem occurs most often when using Gliffy online in a Chrome Web Browser because Chrome removes the CORS headers on redirection to the new URL.
Resolving the Problem:
NOTE: Be careful to only make the changes listed in these steps. Making any other changes to this file could cause problems with your Gliffy diagram.
1. Right click on your open diagram in Gliffy Online > Select View Diagram Source
gliffy.com
2. On the “Document Source” screen, click “Select” then right click on the selected text & copy
3. Open a text editor such as Notepad or Notepad + + Select New > File and paste the information you copied in step 2 into this file
4. Use Find (Ctrl + F) to search and replace all gliffy.com URL’s with go.gliffy.com
5. Once you have changed all the URLs to go.gliffy.com save the file with a Gliffy extension by selecting File > Save as, enclose the filename with quotes example “filename.gliffy”
6. Import this Gliffy file into Gliffy Online
7. Use the File > Save as option to save the imported file and give it a name
8. You will now be able to edit the imported file and successfully save your changes
9. You can delete the original diagram that is not allowing you to save by going to My Documents selecting the file you want to delete, then click the "x" on the right side

View ArticleThat flowchart you made in Gliffy Online is getting too big. Plus, you want to give an nice flowing presentation of it to your boss so you can get that shiny new Bugatti Veyron as a bonus. This is where embedding links in your diagram and public diagrams comes in.
In your Gliffy diagram, rather than place all sections of your diagram on one page, create a new diagram for each sub flow or sub-section of your diagram. In the main diagram use a shape link or text link to show the link to the sub flow. Then, in each Sub-flow diagram, include a hyperlink and include text such as, 'back to Main Flow'.
Now, go ahead and publish each diagram (Share->Publish->Public). Record the public URL’s to each sub flow diagram and the Main Diagram.
Next, in the main flow diagram, for each sub-process you want to connect, highlight the text or shape that is a link to that sub flow diagram. Click the 'link' button and enter the public URL.
Finally, in each sub-flow diagram highlight the text or shape that is a link to the main flow diagram. Click the 'link' button and enter the public URL for the main flow diagram.
You now have a way of easily presenting a large process flow, with clickable links to each sub flow.

View ArticleIt is possible to remove templates from the Gliffy Confluence Plugin version 5.x and below. You'll need access to the jar command line utility that ships with any Java JDK to complete these steps.
Here are the steps:
Download the Gliffy Confluence Plugin (version 5.x or below)
Move the plugin to an empty directory
From the command line, change to the directory where you moved the plugin to
Extract the TemplateCategories.xml file from the plugin. This is the file that determines which templates are displayed in the UI. Of course, use the Gliffy Plugin jar file name that matches your version of Gliffy: jar xvf GliffyPluginForConfluence_3.0.6.jar resources/com/gliffy/templates/TemplateCategories.xml
Edit the resources/com/gliffy/templates/TemplateCategories.xml file and remove <template> nodes as needed.
Update the plugin jar with your updated version of TemplateCategories.xml: jar uf GliffyPluginForConfluence_3.0.6.jar resources/com/gliffy/templates/TemplateCategories.xml
Optional: It's probably a good idea to rename the Gliffy Plugin to indicate that it's been modified.

The following is a sequence of steps to perform if you're asked to fully uninstall/reinstall Gliffy.
Please note: all of your Gliffy diagram data will be preserved throughout this process (diagrams are stored as attachments on Confluence pages).
1. Uninstall the Gliffy Confluence Plugin using the Confluence UPM (in Confluence Administration --> Add-Ons).
2. Stop/shutdown Confluence.
3. Delete (or move away) the following directories:
<confluence-home>/plugin-cache
<confluence-home>/plugins-osgi-cache
<confluence-home>/plugins-temp
These directories will be automatically recreated when you restart Confluence.
4. Delete the plugin from the database by executing this query:
DELETE FROM plugindata WHERE pluginkey = 'com.gliffy.integration.confluence';
5. Delete the plugin license from the database by executing this query:
DELETE FROM bandana WHERE bandanakey like 'com.gliffy\%';
6. Clear your browser cache (removing any HTML/Javascript files that may be cached from a previous install).
7. Restart Confluence.
8. Reinstall Gliffy by using the UPM, and re-enter your license key.

View ArticleThis is available in v7.0 and up for Confluence and v4.8 and up for JIRA.
If you are not on at least this version, you cannot import diagrams into Confluence/JIRA from Gliffy Online unless you upgrade.
Gliffy Online is usuallyahead of Confluence/JIRA in regards to features and capabilities, so we cannot guarantee that they will always be cross-compatible. We would advise to always create the diagram in the same program you are going to be using it in whenever possible. That way it guarantees the compatibility in that product.
If you have further questions, please email [email protected].
View ArticleOverall
We support importing a single page from a visio Xml Drawing (.vdx) or a .vsdx (Gliffy Online, Gliffy for Confluence v6.7 and Gliffy for JIRA v4.5 and above) file. If a symbol imports as a failed shape (a red box), the symbol is currently not supported. You may notice minor differences between the symbol in Visio and how it looks in Gliffy. All Visio shapes are currently imported as images with the exception of some simple lines.
General Issues
The file must be exported directly from Visio.
Read-Only files will not import. You must save from Visio without the Read-Only restriction.
Blank pages will not import (remove blank page first).
Importing multiple worksheets is not supported. Separate your tabs/worksheets first then import individually.
Importing binary Visio files (*.vsd) is not supported.
Lines connected to some shapes may pop into a different position when the shape moves.
User cannot adjust the line width, line color, fill color, gradient, or drop shadow.
Rotated shapes may have jagged lines.
Sometimes lines may import as shapes. When this happens, you will not be able to attach the imported line to another shape.
Paragraph formatting or tab formatting for text is not supported.
Only fonts available in Gliffy are supported. All other fonts will default to Helvetica or Arial.
Shapes with shadows or gradients may cause file to not import
By Diagram Type
This is a summary of issues that may affect an entire class of diagrams. Priority will not be given on this as these are typically a sum of the issues bellow.
Diagram Type Issues
ERD
ERDs in Visio rely heavily on text formatting that Gliffy does not support. We do not recommend importing ERD diagrams yet.
Table text will not align correctly.
Lines that have multiple text nodes attached (i.e., lines with cardinality text) will import as an image.
Not all arrow endings are supported.
No ERD-specific behavior will be available.
Swimlanes
There is no ability to modify the swimlane count.
UML
Lines that have multiple text nodes attached (i.e., lines with cardinality text) will import as an image.
Shapes with multiple text areas (i.e., class or object UML shapes) do not stretch and behave like they do in Visio or Gliffy. Instead, they will stretch uniformly.
No UML-specific behavior will be available.
Floorplan
Dashed lines and pattern fills will not appear.
Line thickness may be off.
Sitemap
Embedded EMF files will not import and will show up as red squares (which some of the site map shapes that ship with Visio are).
Network
Embedded EMF files will not import and will show up as red squares (3rd party vendor specific stencils can have these).
Images
Only png, jpg, bmp, and gif files are supported. Other formats will appear as red squares.
Any bmp files will be converted to png
Any bmp files with transparency will be imported as png files without transparency.
User Interface
Text that relies tabs or margins for positioning may not align as expected.
Microsoft icons may not render correctly if they are not a supported image type.
View ArticleWe do as much as we can to safeguard our customer's data, but sometimes the worst happens and an instance of Gliffy is open, with unsaved work, and is unable to call home to save that data. This might be because of a security or network issue that throws a Permissions Denied error or a user may have lost power while working on their laptop. For these sort of occasions we have added a new feature to allow you to save your work even if you are unable to communicate with a Gliffy Online, Confluence or JIRA server.
If you find yourself in this situation, follow the procedure outlined below:
The short version of this procedure is:
Right click on your diagram, select View Diagram Source
Copy the displayed source into a text file programsuch as Notepad or Notepad++ (or the Mac equivalent). Do not use Word.
Save as .gliffy file. For Mac users, you must remove the .txt file extension after saving.
Import this .gliffy file into Gliffy, when your network or other issue is resolved.
The Long version:
1. With Gliffy still open, right click on your diagram and select View Diagram Source:
2. The following page will be displayed. This contains the code necessary to rebuild your diagram as it is right now.
3.Click "Select" to select all the code, then Ctrl+C to copy (or right click->Copy)
4.Open a text editor, in Windows this will likely be Notepad (you can find notepad by clicking the Start Button, All Programs, Accessories then Notepad). Once you have your text editor open, paste the code into your text editor:
5.Save the code to a place and with a filename you will remember. It is recommend that you save it with a .gliffy extension. In this case, we have named it "my_recovered_document.gliffy". Once this file is saved, your data is safe. Follow the rest of this procedure after you are able to connect to either Gliffy Online or your Confluence or JIRA instance. For Mac users you must remove the .txt file extension.
6.Import the diagram back into Gliffy. In Gliffy Online, you would do this by logging into Gliffy Online and selecting File -> Import.
In Confluence you would go to the page where the diagram should be, Edit the page, select Insert-> Gliffy Diagram, then click "Import a Diagram" on the left column of the shown window:
Clicking these options will take you to a page that will allow you to search and upload your .gliffy file.
7. You can now save your diagram and continue editing:

At this time,Gliffyfor Confluence Cloud users may experience an issue impacting diagram publishing. This issue is based on usage of the Confluence Beta editor.
If you currently have the Confluence Beta editor active, publishing a diagram and then subsequently publishing the Confluence page will result in aGliffy404 error where the diagram should be placed.
Our engineering team is currently aware of the issue and are working to resolve it as promptly as possible. In the meantime, we do have a work-around that should assist in ensuring your diagram is published to the Confluence page correctly.
To ensure your diagram displays correctly, follow these steps:
Download the correspondingGliffydiagram (.gliffy) file from the page’s attachments.
Rename the local diagram file asPreferredDiagramName.gliffy(the preferred name being at your discretion.
Add a newGliffydiagram to the page using the standard flow and import the file from your system.
Publish the diagram.
Remove the previousGliffymacro
Publish the Confluence page
This should result in the diagram displaying correctly. If you experience any further issues, please don’t hesitate to reach out toGliffySupport by submitting a new ticket by clicking HERE.

View ArticleWhen an SVG image is added to the custom shape library, sometimes, the color of the SVGimage is not imported as expected. That is color of the original SVG image is not retained in gliffy. This is because currently, Gliffydoes not support importing SVG image file with inline style sheets into the custom shape library. The following types of inline style sheetformats are not supported:
Type 1: Inline Stylesheets without class attribute
Type 2: Inline Stylesheets with the class attribute
The workaround for this issue is to edit the SVG file and convert the inline style sheet to the style attribute in the file. Then try to import the file into the custom library. The examples are as follows:

View ArticleGliffy for Confluence version 8.0.0 introduced the ability to pin a specific version of each diagram to a specific version of each Confluence page. What this means is that as you update your page, you can also assign a specific version of your Gliffy diagram to each version of that page. This feature has been often requested by our customers, and we're excited to have this implemented!
With this change, there is also a significant operational change in how Gliffy functions. In Gliffy versions prior to 8.0.0, clicking Edit would simply open up your diagram for editing. In Gliffy for Confluence 8.0.0+, you must open the Confluence pageinto Edit mode, and then edit the diagram. This is what enables the ability to attach a specific version to that page with the update.
To edit Gliffy diagrams in version 8.0.0, please follow these steps:
1. Open the Confluence page in which the diagram is stored into Edit mode
2. Click "Edit" on the diagram, which will open the diagram for editing

General Questions
What is Gliffy Project?
Gliffy Project is a JIRA app that maps your visual plans to your existing JIRA, allowing product, engineering, and design teams to build software more accurately.
How does Gliffy Project integrate with JIRA?
Using Gliffy Project, JIRA issues can be created, sorted, and attached to Hotspots on an image. This allows you to utilize a “Big Picture” view of your project, improving the process of reviewing a project to determine its current status.
Where is my data stored?
Gliffy Project data is stored on Gliffy’s secure servers. Gliffy does not receive or obtain the contents of any JIRA tickets. We do see the JIRA issue’s identification (i.e. JIRA-1726), as this allows us to link JIRA issues to associated Hotspots within Gliffy Project.
Is Gliffy Project compatible with JIRA Server or Data Center?
Not at this time, however we are working to add JIRA Server compatibility in the very near future.
Where can I find further documentation?
Documentation for Gliffy Project, including our Knowledge Base and User Manual, can be accessed via our Support Hub.
Basic Functionality
What types of images can I utilize within Gliffy Project?
A project can consist of any type of image, uploaded in PNG or JPG format. This can be anything from an exported Gliffy diagram to your favorite desktop background.
What is a Hotspot?
A Hotspot is an area of space created within Gliffy Project on your selected image. This created area allows you to link associated JIRA issues to the image for tracking and quick access purposes.
Does deleting a Hotspot also delete linked JIRA issues?
No. While the issues associated with the Hotspot will no longer be attached, data within JIRA will not be deleted.
Does Gliffy Project connect to JIRA in real-time?
Gliffy Project does maintain a consistent connection with JIRA. When changes to an issue are made in JIRA however, Gliffy Project does need to be refreshed to reflect these changes.
Does Gliffy Project support sub-tasks?
Not at this time, however this is something we will be investigating for a future..
Can I set or change permissions within Gliffy Project?
Gliffy Project utilizes the permissions you've set up within JIRA. Gliffy Project-specific permissions are not available.
Why do I have 2 Gliffy logos within JIRA?
Gliffy Project and Gliffy Diagrams for JIRA are designed to work in tandem, and Project does include some elements of Gliffy for JIRA. Because of this, installing both plugins will result in 2 Gliffy links.
If you observe two Gliffy buttons, please check to see whether you currently have Gliffy for JIRA installed. If so, uninstalling Gliffy for JIRA should resolve the issue, causing only one link to show.
Licensing And Pricing
How much does it cost?
Pricing information for all Gliffy products can be found on our Pricing Page.
Do I get updates as you make improvements?
When you purchase a license, you are entitled to one year of software maintenance (product updates and support).
When does my software maintenance start?
Our policy is consistent with Atlassian's.
I have a 100-user JIRA license, but I believe only 25 users will run Gliffy Project. Can I get a 25-user Gliffy Project license?
As a product on the Atlassian Marketplace, we must match Atlassian's policy and the license level you have with Gliffy must match the license level of JIRA. Gliffy Project cannot be made available for a specific user-group unfortunately.
What kind of support do you offer?
Support is provided via email, alongside our publicly available resources accessible via our Support Hub.
Can I try the Plugin before I buy it?
Yes! When you downloadand install the Plugin, a 30-day free trial is automatically initiated.
Where can I find more information on Gliffy licensing?
For more information on Atlassian product licensing, please refer to Atlassian's Licensing Resource.
Our legal team wants to make revisions to your EULA. Can you accommodate our changes?
Our policy on this matches the policy that Atlassian has on this topic. Because of the low prices we offer our product at, we're unable to make changes to our EULA. Because of our very low prices, the legal and management costs related to accommodating multiple EULA agreements is not possible. By having a single EULA that is fair to both sides, we are able to keep our costs down. If you have specific concerns about our EULA, we would love to get your feedback.
Will Gliffy be GDPR Compliant?
Yes! Gliffy is committed to customer privacy and is in compliance with GDPR at this time. More information on this can be found within our Knowledge Base.

View ArticleUsers of FireFox may occasionally encounter an issue when working on large diagrams which is related to the browser's rendering of these diagrams.
Specifically, this issue relates to recursion functionality within FireFox, and how the browser handles the rendering of the diagram. To verify that this is the issue you've experienced, you can follow these steps:
Press F12 to open your console's browser
Ensure that "Console" is selected in the top of the pane that opens
Replicate the issue
Doing this will actually allow you to view the error generated. This error exception will be listed as "Too much recursion".
Unfortunately, within FireFox there is not a current method to resolve this on larger diagrams. If you experience this error in a persistent manner, we encourage you to utilize a browser such as Google Chrome (which typically provides the best experience with Gliffy). In the meantime, our engineers will continue to investigate and work to resolve this issue.
