Frequently Asked Questions About Home Chef

  • Cancelling your subscription with Home Chef is easy. Our flexible subscription allows you to skip orders or cancel your subscription at any time, for as long as you need.Please note that following these steps below will effectively cancel your subscription with us, but if you'd like to start receiving meals again, you may log back in and reactivate at any time

    To cancel your subscription, simply log in, click My Account in the upper right corner of your dashboard, and click on the Account Information tab. The option to cancel your subscription can be found under the Delivery Details section by selecting 'Pause Your Subscription'.

    On the next screen, select the reason you are pausing your subscription.

    On the next page, select 'Pause my subscription'.

    Once you complete these three steps, your Home Chef subscription will be cancelled. You should receive an e-mail confirming that you will not receive any future deliveries.

    Keep in mind that cancelling your subscription will not cancel an order that’s already been processed, including your first scheduled order. Be sure to log in and cancel your subscription before the Friday12PMCentral deadline if you do not want a delivery for the upcomingweek.

    If you have questions or you need help adjusting your first order, you can contact our support team.When you’re ready for another order, simply login & the site will prompt you to “reactivate” before placing yourorder.

    Be sure to complete the cancel subscription process if you are not interested in skipping deliveries, selecting a restart date or changing your subscription frequency.

  • The Customize It feature allows you to select the type of protein you’d like in your dish. This feature is limited to select meals and the proteins available are chosen based on what would best fit the recipe. For example, if a recipe calls for ground pork, you may be able to substitute ground turkey but not sirloin steak.

    Recipes that are eligible to be customized will have a "Customize It" menu under the picture of the meal.

  • Skipping a week’s menu is easy with our flexible subscription service. On the Upcoming Meals page of your account, scroll to the week you'd like to remove from your schedule.Click the "Summary" button for that week, and a button saying "Skip this delivery" will pop up on the right side of the screen.

    When you've successfully skipped a delivery, a red circle with a cross will replace the green circle around the date.

    Skips on deliveries or edits to your menu selections, must be received by 12pm(CST) on the Friday prior to the scheduled delivery day.Each time you skip a delivery, you'll receive a confirmation email containing the date.

    If you'd like to skip or reschedule your first order, you can contact our support team here and select 'Rescheduling My First Order' in the dropdown.

    Keep in mind, skipping all available weeks in your calendar does not stop your subscription. You will continue to be assigned additional weeks when the menus are released for the month. If you'd prefer to stop your subscription, you can read about that.

  • Oven Ready Meals are a new product that we're excited to offer! We currently have one Oven Ready Meal every week, and hope to have even more options in the future.

    With Oven Ready meals, pre-portioned ingredients come fresh inside an oven-safe tray, so dinner is ready in no time, and clean-up is a piece of cake.

  • Each week, we’ll assign you a new selection of meals tailored to the dietary preferences you’ve set. Remember, you are always able to customize your order and select the meals of your choice.

    If you are trying to make changes to the menu selections of an existing order, visit the Upcoming Orders page on your account. Scroll to the delivery you'd like to edit, and click the button that says "Edit Basket" to go to to the page where you edit your meals.

    The meals you currently have in your order will have a green bar under the menu card. To remove a meal, click the Trash Can icon. To add a meal, click the Plus Sign. Press the Plus Sign again to add more servingsup to 8 servings per meal. Once you're done, click "Save" up at the top.

    To change the total amount of servings in your order or to adjust your delivery day for that week, click the Summary button on the Upcoming Orders page.

    Your Summary will pop up on the right side of the page. Use the drop down to adjust delivery day or to adjust the servings of all meals in the order.

    New menus go up each Friday at 12pm(CST).

  • If you skip a delivery in advance and you decide you'd like to reschedule it before the weekly deadline, you can do so by scrolling to the skipped week on your calendar and then clicking "Unskip".

    Once you've rescheduled the delivery, you'll see the crossed-out red circle on your calendar has been replaced with a green circle. You'll also receive an email confirmation of your request.

  • If you're signing up with Home Chef for the first time, you'll be able to enter your Groupon voucher code during the registration process to redeem it. We recommend copying and pasting the code directly from Groupon's website to ensure it is entered accurately. Groupon voucher codes will always begin with "GRP."

    Groupons are intended as promotions for first time customers, and cannot be redeemed by existing customers. Customers may only use one Groupon, and they cannot be combined with any other promotion.

  • Customers set up their passwords after completing signup. If you have logged out of your account without creating a password, you can create your password here.

    If you are already logged into your account, you can change your password in the 'Contact Information' section of your Account Information tab.

    If you are not logged into your account, you can reset your password here. Enter your email address associated with your Home Chef account, and we will email you a link to reset your password.

    Emails may take a few minutes to arrive, so do not request more than one link at a time. You must click on the most recent link that was sent, and can only click on a link once. If you get an error message that says "Password Reset Token is Invalid," then delete all password reset emails you have received so far and request a new link.

  • Absolutely! Your scheduled deliveries can be managed on your account via your Upcoming Orders page.

    Skips or cancellations need to be received by 12 PM CST on the Friday prior to the scheduled delivery day. This can be helpful if you know you’ll be out of town or simply have too many dinner plansalready. You also have the option to set your subscription frequency to bi-weekly or monthly.

  • Since our menus change each week, we source fresh ingredients accordingly. So you won't beable to order individual meals from a week that they're not featured.

    But we do like to repeat customer favorites! If you really like a dish, be sure to log into your account and review it so that our chefs can get a sense of what you're interested in. Then you can keep an eye out for your favorites on future menus.

    All of our ingredients are produced in facilities that also process eggs, milk, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat and soy. All ingredients are individually packaged, but our facilities are not certified allergen-free. Additionally, because ingredients are packaged and shipped in the same shipping container, ingredients from one meal that contain allergens might come into contact with ingredients from another meal.

  • We're committed to tackling packaging waste, while ensuring that our ingredients reach our customers in the safest and highest quality conditions. We use packaging that is recyclable or reusable and also keeps the food at a safe temperature during the entire journey from our facility to our customer's home. Here are some tips for recycling your Home Chef packaging:

    Box and Divider - All of Home Chef's boxes and dividers are made from partially recycled cardboard and are curbside recyclable.

    Produce Bags - The meal bags (#5) and ingredient bags (#4) can be recycled at all locations that accept plastic bags.

    Insulated Liner - The insulated liners are made of recycled cotton and denim. To dispose of the liner, simply cut open the film, throw the denim contents in the trash, and recycle the film where you recycle your plastic bags.

    Ice Packs - Our ice packs are non-toxic and made of 99\% water and 1\% sodium salt (polyacralate). They can be easily rinsed off and reused. To dispose of the ice packs, simply cut open the film, throw the contents in the trash, and recycle the film where you recycle your plastic bags.

    Plastic containers - Our plastic containers range in number but are all curbside recyclable.

    Fruit basket wrap - The fruit baskets are wrapped in paper which is curbside recyclable.

    Recipe Cards - Recipe cards are designed to be kept in your Home Chef binder and reused. They’re also curbside recyclable.

  • The delivery driver shouldleave the package for you at your door with no signature required. Since we package the fresh ingredients with insulated liners & cold packs, it should remain fresh and at proper temperature until you arrive home; but you should always inspect to confirm and immediately refrigerate.

  • To update your email preferences, click My Account in the upper right corner of your dashboard, locate your Account Information tab and click 'edit information' under Contact Information. Click save so that your changes update successfully.

  • If you'd prefer to opt into automatic biweekly or monthly orders, you can do so by clicking My Account in the upper right corner of your dashboard, clicking Account Information and then selecting 'Pause your Subscription' in the middle of the page.

    From there, click any of the reasons under the Schedule section.

    Once you're there, select the second option, 'Change my frequency'.

    If you've paused and reactivated your account in the past, you may see a 'Subscription Type' section in your Account Information tab--you can make changes to your frequency there as well.

    Keep in mind that when you opt to change your subscription frequency, your new delivery day will default to two weeks or four weeks out from your prior deliveryday.

    If you decide that you'd like to switch back to a weekly subscription,you can do so in the same section.

  • We offer meals that we call 'Calorie-Conscious' (less than 625 calories per serving) and 'Carb-Conscious (less than 35 grams per serving). Look for these icons to locate calorie-conscious and carb-conscious selections.

    Each week, we offer at least 3 Calorie-Conscious meals and at least 3 Carb-Conscious meals. You can adjust your Taste Profile settings to ensure that you're assigned those options. Keep in mind that those settings are preferences and not restrictions--you may be assigned meals that are not calorie-conscious or carb-conscious depending on your other Taste Profile settings.

  • All active subscribers have access to our referral program, allowing you to earn credit for every referral that signs up with Home Chef. Customers can invite friends and family to join the service by sending an email invitation or by sharing their referral invitation link.

    Those who sign up using the referral invitation will receive a $30 discount off of their first order and the active subscriber will earn $30 in Home Chef credit. Customers are not permitted to refer members of the samehousehold.

    Keep in mind, the Free Box promotion is not compatible with the $30 for $30 referral program.

  • When you sign up with Home Chef, we’ll automatically assign you some of the meals our chefs have created. We always recommend that you review the ingredients in each recipe so that you can choose recipes that work for you.

    You can edit your selections, or skip a weekly delivery anytime, up until the weekly deadline. Skips on deliveries or edits to your menu selections, must be submitted by 12pm(CST) on the Friday prior to the scheduled delivery day.

    When you sign up, you’ll be able to fill out a personal taste profile. We use that taste profile to match you up with weekly meal selections that meet your dietary restrictions and preferences. Once you've completed sign up, you can go to the 'Taste Profile' tab in your account to add more detailed information about your preferences. Keep in mind that your settings there will also affect our ability to assign you meals that meet your needs. If you're not assigned your default number of meals, that may be an indication that the current menu doesn't feature enough meals that match your preferences.

  • Yes, we offer vegetarian options. While our vegetarian meals occasionally also qualify as vegan, we do not guarantee options for weekly vegan subscriptions.

    If you eat meat but you'd occasionally like to be assigned vegetarian meals, you can make that adjustment in your Taste Profile.

  • If you're an active customer and you'd like to change the delivery day of a scheduled order, you can click into 'Details' in the upper right corner next to the date of the delivery selected.

    If you're looking to change your default weekly delivery day, click My Account, then Account Information and scroll down to the Delivery Details section.

    Be sure to save your changes.

    Please note that you’re unable to change the date of your first order online yourself, but we’re happy to make that change for you. You can contact our support team here and select 'Rescheduling My First Order' in the dropdown.

    Transfer any leftovers into a covered plastic or glass container and store in the refrigerator.

    Store in the refrigerator or freezer. To defrost frozen meat and fish, thaw in the original packaging in the refrigerator. Your choice of storage may affect the cook by days on your recipe card.

    USDA/FDA guidance recommends refrigerated proteins should be cooked or frozen in the following timeframes:

    Steak or Chops: 3-5 days

    Poultry: 1-2 days

    Ground Beef, Pork, Turkey: 1-2 days

    Fish and Seafood: 1-2 days

  • We recommend paying special attention to dishes containing poultry and ground meat. You can cut into a piece of meat to visually inspect for proper doneness (poultry should be solid white in color with clear juices), but using a meat thermometer is the most reliable method. Insert the thermometer into the thickest part of the meat to read these minimum temperatures for safe consumption.

Rate your company
