IFTTT FAQs

Note: This article is for devices running Android 8.0 and above specifically.

If you use the Android WiFi, Location, or Battery triggers, it's possible that they they can be delayed up to 15 minutes, or more depending on its use, after you update to Android 8.0.

However, there isa setting in the app you can turn on to avoid this delay. It will not affect the battery life of your device. It's also possible that enabling this setting will improve Applet speeds for other services, such as the location service.

Here's how to enable the setting in the app:

Tap your profile icon on the top right of the screen

Select Sync options

Toggle on "Run Location, Android Battery and WiFi connections faster"

When this setting is enabled, you will see a persistent notification on your device's status bar to let you know it is working.

How to find an Applet

There's millions of Applets on IFTTT, perhaps there's already one that does what you need! Check out our Get more section or do a search on what you're looking for.

How to create an Applet

Still haven't found the right one? Try building your own Applet via ifttt.com/create. You can also access this by visiting the profile icon in the top right of ifttt.com and clicking Create. Any screen that has a banner statingMake more Applets from scratch will take you to the same place.

Why do some services not appear as a "this" or a "that"?

Many services only have triggers (this) while some only have actions (that). For example, Google Assistant only supports triggers, so you won't see it as an action.

Why can't I make an Applet with a certain trigger/action combination?

We aim for full interoperability between services but not all actions and triggers can be designed to work together. There may be technical limitations based on the service, or the combination is something the service does not allow IFTTT to do.

For example, Twitter restricts the ways new tweets can be posted using IFTTT, and does not allow Applets to be created using the New tweet from a specific user trigger and the Post a tweet action.

Note: Due to the countless varieties of Applet combinations on IFTTT, we can't assist with making an individual Applet directly. Check out our help section on best practices or post a request in thecommunities of IFTTT experts on Reddit and. We encourage users to lean on those communities for help if you can't find a specific Applet configuration you're seeking, or if you need one custom built.

Each Applet you enable on IFTTT has information on how often it runs. You can see often they run by selecting the icon on the top right of an Applet. You'll see some text near the bottom that statesThis Applet usually runs within [Time].This is dynamically generated based on the past several times that Applet has run.

You also have the option to run the Applet manually via the Check now button on this screen.

The frequency in which Applets run is largely dependent on the service(s) you're using. If an Applet isn't running as quickly as you expect it, we encourage you to check with the service owner. Most service owners have tools available to them to help them figure out if their IFTTT integration can run a bit faster.

When you visit ifttt.com or the IFTTT mobile app, you can either be presented with a list of services or a list of your Applets. Here's how to choose your default view.

Web

Go to ifttt.com/settings and scroll toHome screen. Choose My services or My Applets and select Save at the bottom of the screen.

Mobile

Tap on your profile icon in the top right of the app, select Account, and scroll toHome screen. Choose My services or My Applets and select Save at the bottom of the screen.

For account security reasons, we will not be able to retrieve your backup code or reset it. As an alternate solution, we can delete your account, allowing you to create a new account with the same username and email address.

Please note that this cannot be reversed. Contact us below if you're interested in this option and we'lldelete your account.

On June 28th, 2019, the Classifieds service is being removed from IFTTT.

Classifieds is one of the first services we launched way back in 2010. Unfortunately, it has been one of the least reliable. Consumers of the Classifieds service have experienced outages, sometimes lasting for weeks at a time. It has become untenable to continue offering you an experience this unpredictable.

It was a powerful service, and certainly helped many people find everything from housing, jobs, to local services or things for sale. Were saddened that the technology powering Classifieds is out of our control and will be removed from IFTTT.

Alternatives

If you were using craigslist with Classifieds, there's a couple ways you can continue to get alerts for your searches. Other sites may have similar functionality.

craigslist email alerts

craigslist has a robust email alert system for their users. To start, you'll need to create a craigslist account, and set up an alert for your search. Below is a screenshot of where to save a search on their desktop site.

Once you save a search, it'll be available under the searches tab in your account settings.

RSS Feed

We do not recommend using the RSS Feed service with craigslist. Applets using feeds from craigslist are likely to be severely rate limited and may stop working entirely.

On March 31st, Google is implementing changes to their API ecosystem that will impact the Gmail service on IFTTT.

Unfortunately, this change means that all Gmail triggers and the Create a draft action will be removed from IFTTT. The Gmail actions Send an email and Send yourself an email will remain intact. Please sign in to view which of your Gmail Applets will be affected.

Note: This change does not affect any other Google integrations on IFTTT. It only affects the Gmail service, and only the above mentioned functionality.

When IFTTT first started, most of the services available were built by us, not the company that owns the service. This has shifted significantly since we've launched the IFTTT Platform. Now most services on IFTTT are owned and maintained by the company behind them. Some have even taken over ownership of integrations we originally built in the past.

The changes being made to Gmail would have required massive refactoring in how we integrated Gmail with the IFTTT platform. It would have created a lot more overhead than we had before, and the experience for users would have been degraded as a result. These updates would have made continuing to maintain the Gmail service unsustainable.

After some communication with Google's team, we were able to keep the two remaining actions without introducing major infrastructure changes. Unfortunately, we weren't able to keep the triggers and the Create a draft action as we'd hoped.

Weve long had a good relationship with Google and we support their efforts to improve privacy and security, though we understand this change may be a disappointment to the communities that use these Applets. We look forward to working with Google in the future to bring new, sustainable services to IFTTT in ways that empower everyone to benefit from and control their data.

Every Applet gives you the option to send you a mobile notification on the IFTTT app whenever it runs. Many users find this handy with troubleshooting or knowing when to check on something that IFTTT is connected to.

To locate this setting, find the icon on the top right of an Applet and you should see a similar screen to the one below.

IFTTT.com and the mobile apps are currently only available in English.

We hope that IFTTT will be in more languages in the future so that people around the world can easily use Applets in their native languages.

About the Activity feed

The Activity feed gives you a log of your Applet runs. If you're wondering why an Applet isn't working properly, this may be the first place you look. It can be viewed on web or in the IFTTT apps.

You can visit your Activity feed to find useful information about your Applets and services:

Applet actions (ran, failed, skipped, deleted)

Error messages

Service connections and disconnections

Applet run notifications (mobile only)

Your Activity feed will only display the most recent 100 items, and they cannot be removed from the timeline.To troubleshoot your Applet, there are some useful tips in this article as well.

Here's a rundown to help you understand what youre seeing, and why.

Applet errors

Your Applet ran as expected! If you expand this item, youll see more details about what exactly IFTTT was up to on your behalf. Note: If your Applet has multiple actions, youll see this item even if only one of those actions successfully ran.

Applet updated

You successfully changed the configuration on one of your Applets, such as the hashtag to track for a Twitter Applet or the day of the week for an Email Digest Applet.

Applet created

You made an Applet via ifttt.com/create or the mobile app. Note: this only shows up when you build your own Applet, not when you turn just on an Applet.

Applet turned on

When you turn on an Applet, well put this confirmation in your activity feed.

Applet turned off

If you turned off one of your Applets, youll see this item. If you see it butdon'trecall turning off the Applet, expand the item to get a link to some troubleshooting tips.

Applet skipped

This means your trigger ran, but the actions were skipped. Its not necessarily bad news if your Applet has filter code, it may skip because the conditionals the code outlined werent met. E.g. This Applet will show up in your feed as Applet skipped when the trigger fires on breaking news but the code determines that the newsisn'trelated to the Bay Area.

Applets could also skip if:

We tried to run the action five times and werent able to make it happen

The time between the trigger and the action attempt times out

The action service is paused this also only happens with Applets that use the Button, Note, or Camera widget services (you can see which services are paused by visiting status.ifttt.com )

Applet failed

This can happen for a few reasons. Lets break it down:

If your Applet uses filter code, something might be wrong with the javascript

If youre using a service for your action that has usage limits, the Applet will fail ifyou'vehit those limits (e.g. the SMS service has a limit of 100 messages a month in North America)

If one of the services involved is paused visit the status page to check out which services are currently paused and subscribe for updates

Our call to the trigger or action service took too long or failed, usually indicating some (temporary!) API issues on that app or devices end

An unexpected error could sometimes pop up (wecan'tprevent 100% of these, but know that we see them and do our best to investigate them)

Applet published

Users and services can publish Applets for others to use from within the IFTTT Platform. When you do, youll see this item in your feed.

Service errors

Service connected

This item confirms thatyou'velinked a new app or device to your IFTTT account.

Service disconnected

When you disconnect from a service, well put this confirmation in your activity feed.

Service edited

Sometimes you may want to link a different service account, or update a password and reconnect. In that case, youll see this item letting you know those updates went through.

Service is offline

Uh oh! This usually means one of your apps or devices is no longer properly linked with IFTTT. Expand this item and well help you reconnect via the services settings page, so you can get up and running again. If youdon'treconnect, we may give you a reminder a few days later eventually, if youdon'treconnect, well automatically disable the service and associated Applets, so well try and give you enough time to fix it before we do that.

Service is online

If weve seen your service was recently offline but has made a triumphant return to online status, well give you the good news in your activity feed via this item.

Usage limit exceeded

Some of the apps and devices we work with have usage limits on how much they can handle via IFTTT. We try and make these as transparent as possible, and let you know when youre approaching a limit and whenyou'vehit it. When you hit it and wecan'trun an Applet, youll see this item in your feed.

Applets that work with the Wordpress service make it easy for you to cross-post and promote your content.

Here's a few things to double-check to make sure they work as intended.

Make sure XML-RPC is enabled for your WordPress blog

Make sure the username you have activated has full Admin rights

Double-check that the Blog URL is correct, and that you're running the latest version of WordPress

Make sure that all your Wordpress plugins are up to date

If youre still having issues, you can still trigger from your blog by using its RSS Feed with the Feed service

What is the IFTTT Platform?

The IFTTT Platform is how services on IFTTT are built. Developers and businesses alike can sign up for the Platform and start prototyping their service.

The Platform also enables users to create more powerful Applets than what's offered on ifttt.com/create. Specifically, you can create Applets with multiple actions and you're able to use filter code.

Does the IFTTT Platform cost anything to use?

There's no cost to sign up and start prototyping a service, or if you'd like to take advantage of some of the more advanced tools for building Applets for your personal use. If you or your business would like to publish a service on IFTTT though, you'll want to talk to our sales team about pricing.

I'd like to know more about multiple actions and filter code.

In the IFTTT world, a regular Applet is set up asIf This Then That. Multiple actions enable you to make an Applet that works likeIf This Then That and That.

Filter code is custom Javascript you can use within IFTTT to extend the functionality of an Applet. An example of this would be if you wanted to make an Applet to program your lights to perform a specific sequence of colors. You couldn't do this with the tool at ifttt.com/create, but some custom Javascript would do the trick.

Note: Filter code for developers and DIY users is for personal use only. You must be on a paid plan with IFTTT to publish an Applet using filter code for others to use.

How can I learn more about the Platform?

Is the Platform the same as using Webhooks?

No, they're separate. The Platform is where you can build a service or create more advanced Applets. Webhooks is a service on IFTTT that enables you to make or send web requests through IFTTT. Some examples of what can be built with Webhooks can be found on the hackster.io community. Please also see our FAQ on Webhooks.

How do I troubleshoot Applets built on the Platform?

Troubleshooting Applets in the Platform is a bit different than if you were an end user. Our team has built a guide for this and you can access the support community on Spectrum for further help.

Things change, and we know that the Instagram account you connected to IFTTT at the start may not be the one you always want to use with it. Good news! It's easy to change the account linked to a service.

Go to the service page youd like to change

If you are trying to change your account for Facebook, Instagram, or another service that you are logged into on your browser, please log out of that account completely on their site before going through these steps.

You won't have to reconfigure your Applets as long as all the inputs are the same.If the inputs are not the same, then Applet editing will be necessary.

e.g. If you change which Trello account is linked to your IFTTT, but the new one doesn't have the board specified in an Applet, then that Applet won't be able to run.

You can only connect one service account for each IFTTT account.

e.g. If you want to use two different Facebook Pages with IFTTT, you will need to use two IFTTT accounts

The Location service allows apps and websites to use information from cellular, Wi-Fi, and GPS networks to determine your approximate location. Basically, it uses your smartphone to let an Applet know where you are. This means you can:

Have the lights turn on when you get home

Automatically record how much time you spend at work

Automatically arm your security system when you leave

Unmute your Android device when you get home

...and hundreds of other uses! To get started, you'll need to IFTTT app. Download it for iOS or Android.

Troubleshooting

Applets using the Location service will run when your device has notified IFTTT that it has entered or exited the defined area. Usually this is pretty quick, but it does require the IFTTT app to be active and "listening" for the trigger.

If you are having trouble with an Applet using the Location service, the issue likely stems from your device settings. Android devices especially can have several settings which may interfere with the IFTTT's app ability to be prompt when it comes to triggering Applets with the Location service. Here's a few things to check for:

Enable your WiFi setting. You don't need to be connected to a network, but having the setting turned on helps your location to be accurately recognized.

Make sure the mobile IFTTT app is authorized to run in the background on your device.

Disable power saving modes on your device.

Make sure your device is recognizing that you are at the correct location. Check on a maps app to see where your device has you located.

Reset your device to see if it improves the performance of your location Applets.

If you are running Android 8.0 or above on your device, try enabling the setting that is described in this help article to see if it helps.

IFTTT has limits in place to keep our service running quickly, to prevent abuse of our features, and to protect people from spam and harassment. As a user, you agree not to use the IFTTT service:

To post or transmit, or cause to be posted or transmitted, content or communications that are libelous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, abusive, offensive, profane, or that infringes any copyright or another right of any person;

To create or transmit unwanted spam to any person or any URL;

To create multiple accounts for the purpose of transmitting spam;

By any automated means for any purpose that imposes, or may impose an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on our infrastructure or interfere with the proper working of IFTTT.

Users engaging in these types of behaviors may be removed from IFTTT. Learn more about our Terms of Service here.

We know spam when we see it, but things to keep an eye out for are:

Applets that are trying to sell something in the description text.

Applets where the title and description don't clearly describe how they work with the services involved.

Applets that are promising to do something you know IFTTT can't do.

And of course, if you see any Applets that use anylibelous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, abusive, offensive, or profane language; or that infringes any copyright or another right of any person let us know ASAP. That's against our terms of service, and we'll take them down.

Report spam

What is background syncing?

Applets that use iOS Photos, iOS Contacts, iOS Reminders, or iOS Reading List require occasional access to your device to run. Whenever you open the IFTTT app, it checks for new data (a new photo, for example) and triggers your Applets if necessary.

The IFTTT app also tries to check for new data when youre not using it. This happens in two different ways: Background App Refresh and location assist syncing.

What is Background App Refresh?

Background App Refresh is an iOS feature that allows apps to run occasionally in the background (even if youdon'topen it) and check for new data. Background App Refresh is enabled by default when you install the IFTTT app.

Because the IFTTT app cannot control when a Background App Refresh occurs, these types of background syncs can be unreliable. If you do not open the IFTTT app again after a day or two, Background App Refreshes may stop altogether.

What is location assist syncing?

Location assist syncing uses your devices Location Services to ensure more reliable and consistent background syncs. Any time you visit or leave a location, Location Services runs the IFTTT app in the background to check for new data and run your Applets.

Using Location Services with the IFTTT app has a minimal impact on your devices battery. You may notice the icon appear in your devices status bar. IFTTT does not track your device or use your location unless required by Applets that use iOS Location.

You can enable location assist syncing in Sync options in the IFTTT app.

What happens if I force close the IFTTT app?

If you force close the IFTTT app, Background App Refresh will stop until you open the IFTTT app again. To ensure your Applets run reliably, we recommend that you do not force close the IFTTT app.

Whydon'tmy Applets run until I open the IFTTT app?

Do you force close the IFTTT app after using it? This prevents us from checking for new data in the background

Check if Low Power Mode is enabled. Background App Refresh is disabled while your device is in Low Power Mode

Make sure Background App Refresh is enabled for IFTTT in Settings.app > IFTTT

Try enabling location assist syncing

If you want to create an Applet similar to one you already have turned on, you can build it using our Applet creation tool. Start the creation flow by clicking the +this text to select your service and trigger.

IFTTT is the free way to do more with hundreds of the apps and devicesyou love, including Twitter, Dropbox, Evernote, Nest, Fitbit, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant.

On IFTTT, we call those services. To see all of the services on IFTTT, check out our services list.

We bring services together into Applets. Applets are specific things that can happen when youconnect services things your apps can't do on their own.

For example, you could use an Applet to sync Amazon Alexa to-dos with your Google Calendar. Or one that lets you create events in your iPhone Calendar, via Google Assistant.

Here's a short video tutorial that shows you how to connect your apps and devices, and turn on Applets.

Our name is pronounced like "Gift" without the "G." We used to be called "if this, then that" because Applets would have one trigger, and one action. If this happens then that happens.

For example, when you come home, then turn on your Hue lights.

Now we just go by "IFTTT," because there's so much more you can do:

Applets can run when you tell them to, with a tap via widgets (That!).

Applets can have multiple actions (e.g. if this, then that...and that).

And some Applets even have filtersthat mean they only run when a specific condition is met (e.g. if this and that,then that).

You can turn on Applets that already exist, or you can make something custom for yourself. Here's two short tutorials that show you how easy it is.

Were sorry to see you go! If youre sure you want to leave IFTTT, heres how you can delete your account:

Sign in and navigate to your account settings.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and clickDelete my account.

Take a moment to tell us why youre leaving, and enter your password.

Note: If you signed up for IFTTT via Google or Facebook login, you will need to first reset your password with your email address attached to your Google or Facebook account, and then you can use the new password to delete your account.

Deleting your account cannot be undone. If youre still sure you want to delete your account, selectDelete account on this screen.

You can only delete your account via the IFTTT website. Deleting the IFTTT app on your phone will not delete your account.

It doesn't happen too often, but sometimes a service, or a certain trigger or action, needs to be removed from IFTTT. This can happen for a few reasons:

Thecompany goes out of business or dramatically shifts their focus

The API used by the company for the IFTTT integration is being discontinued

There are errors with the integrationthat cannot be resolved, resulting in a poor experience for users

Once a service is removed from IFTTT, it will no longer be discoverable on our services page, Applets can no longer be created using that service, and all existing Applets using that service will be archived. When triggers or actions are removed, only Applets using those specific triggers or actions are archived.

It's unfortunate when this happens, and we always do our best to give users enough advance notice when we know an integration is going to be removed. Be sure to enable our alerts emails in account settings to stay up to date with the latest changes.

We add new services every week, though so if your favorite is going away, take a look at the rest of the IFTTT ecosystem to see if there's an alternative.

Some services have limits for how often you can use them with IFTTT. If you check your activity feed and see an error message that reads "usage limit exceeded," then you have hit one of these limits. Some examples of these services are Twitter, Blogger, and the SMS service.

We try and make this as transparent as possible, and let you know when youre approaching a limit and whenyou'vehit it.If you hit a daily limit, your Applet will resume working again the following day.

We would recommend configuring your Applets so that they run less often to avoid hitting these limits. You can do this by choosing different criteria for your Applet to trigger on so that it runs less often.

You could also build your Applet within the IFTTT Platform that allows you to publish powerful Applets for you and others to turn on. You can add filters that limit when your Applet runs. Some knowledge of javascript is required to implement filter code in your Applets.

In order to make SMS a more sustainable service, we are making some changes to it starting on Tuesday, May 21st.

SMS has always incurred a cost to provide for IFTTT users. Unfortunately, that cost has significantly increased recently, making it no longer feasible to continue providing the SMS service as is.

Change in SMS access

SMS Applets created by customers of the IFTTT Platform will remain unchanged. These SMS Applets are ones that you simply turn on rather than create from scratch, and they show a GroupMe by the Applet creator.

Applets created using the New Applet tool will no longer provide SMS as a trigger or an action. These SMS Applets will be transitioned to use Mobile Notifications going forward.

Transitioning to Mobile Notifications

Existing SMS Applets made using the New Applet tool, or enabled from user-published Applets will be transitioned to use Mobile Notifications, powered by the IFTTT app. If youdon'thave the IFTTT app, download it today in order for Mobile Notification Applets to work.

SMS Alternatives

The SMS serviceisn'tthe only way to send yourself text messages with Applets. Services like MessageBird or are fantastic choices that give you more options on how to be notified with IFTTT.

The ubiquitous File not found image, explained:

This image will appear when an Applet is set up to post an image or a file, but we don't get the data as expected from the service.

Here's an example to illustrate further. The Applet below is configured to tweet with an image each time your Tumblr has a new post. Since the Applet is expecting an image with the tweet, Tumblr posts without an image will fall back to the File not found image above.

If you're seeing this error message often, we recommend using an Applet that is not expecting an image each time it runs. Applets that are expecting images will containan Image URL ingredient.

IFTTT helps you connect all of your differentapps and devices. When you sign up for a free account, you can turn on Applets that help your apps and devices work together to do specific things they couldn't do otherwise.For example, you can back up your Instagram photos to Dropbox, have your lights turn on when you enter your home, or automatically remind a Slack channel about a meeting. There are millions of Applets to explore.

Here's how it works:

Create a free account.

Browse the IFTTT website or app to find an Applet that interests you.

Click into the Applet and turn it on.

Connect the services that are involved in the Applet this is only so we can use them to runApplets on your behalf. IFTTT provides a layer between different services to only allow them to do what you specifically tell them to do.

Find more Applets, and repeat!

Public Applets can be built by services or userswithin the IFTTT Platform. But you also have the power to create something custom for yourself! Go to ifttt.com/create to combine two services and make your own Applet.

Every Applet or connection on IFTTT has a unique ID. You can find this ID at the bottom of the Applet or connection page on IFTTT.com and in the IFTTT mobile app.

The RSS feed service is a great way to pipe a blog or website into IFTTT and build connections with it. However, not all feeds are created equal, and some work better with IFTTT than others. Here are some common problems people may have.

RSS feed times out

Try opening the feed directly in your browser. If it takes a few seconds to load, there's a chance that it may time out when trying to use it with IFTTT.

Feed not valid

We validate a feed when you create a connection but tools like the W3C Feed Validation Service may help with providing more details about why a feed isn't validating.

The Feed service also has the following requirements for validation:

A top-level feed title and a unique link

A GUID and date for each entry

No new published content

The Feed service distinguishes between new content and updated content. Connections are triggered by newly published content, items that are updated may be ignored.

Below is some example content from an RSS feed. It was published on 2018-11-09 andupdated a couple weeks later on 2018-11-23. The originator of the feed content may list entries based on when they were updated, but a new connection created with IFTTT after the 9th wouldn't trigger in this case.

Due to your avid feedback, Google has created a path for current users of Nest to keep their Nest Applets functioning!

Earlier this year, Google announced a significant change to their Nest products. In their efforts to bring smart home solutions under a Google Assistant umbrella, the Works with Nest program was to be discontinued. That meant your IFTTT Applets for Nest Thermostat, Nest Protect, and Nest Cam would cease to function. Now, that is no longer the case.

Please refer to Nests post for details, but here is how to keep your Nest Applets working on IFTTT beyond August 31, 2019.

Do not migrate your Nest account to a Google account. Migrating your Nest account will cause IFTTT and other Works with Nest integrations to be disconnected. This process is not reversible.

Do not disconnect Nest from IFTTT after August 31st as you will not be able to reconnect it. This affects users that do not migrate their Nest accounts to a Google one.

At IFTTT, we believe that every thing works better together and we will continue to advocate for your ownership over how the products, apps, and services that fill your life can be connected, secured, and controlled.

On August 31, 2019, Nest will be retiring its Works with Nest program. In turn, Nest services on IFTTT will no longer work due to this change.

Your Nest Applets will remain active until the end of August, when they will then be turned off and removed. We will send another reminder before Nest Applets are turned off permanently. For more information, please see Nests FAQ.

Edit your service

Go to ifttt.com or the mobile app and locate the service you're having trouble with

Locate the Settings menu on the top right

Select EDIT

You'll be taken to a page where you can reconnect the service to IFTTT

Remove / reconnect service

If refreshing the connection didn't work, try reconnecting the service. This often helps with issues such as drop-down menus not populating, or authentication issues with the service.

To reconnect the service, follow the steps above, except look for the Remove [Service] link instead ofEDIT. Disconnecting your service may disable related Applets and connections on your IFTTT account so be prepared to reconnect them afterward.

Search for service specific tips online

Search [service name] IFTTT helponline - it's possible that the service has specific requirements for how to use IFTTT. For example, some services only offer IFTTT support with certain plans on their product.

Double-check the trigger and action fields

Verify that the intended Ingredients are being used where and how they should be. For example, don't use a filename ingredient for an image action field.

Test a variety of configurations

When triggering a connection for testing purposes, you can use the "Check now" button on the card to force the Applet to check for a trigger. If you ever see aCannot check Appleterror, it means something is preventing it from running. Make sure it is set up using the correct fields and ingredients.

Check your Activity Feed

This will show you are any error messages there that can help you understand what is preventing your connection from running. There is an error glossary that can help you better understand errors in your feed. If a specific service returning an error, try refreshing your connection to that service.

IoT devices(smart home products, voice assistants, etc)

If you are using a connection with an IoT devicethat is not running successfully, try a full reset of the device, double check that you have connected IFTTT to the same device account where it is registered, and ensure your internet connection is strong. Also confirm that your device is IFTTT compatible.

File Not Found error

This likely means thata required field in an Applet is empty or not filled out with the correct ingredient. Check your Applet settings to see if they can be modified. More info about this error can be found .

Where to go for further help

If the above information doesn't help to get your Applet working, please contact the service owner. Most services on the IFTTT platform have tools to help them diagnose user issues as they come up. You can often locate a service's support info by searching for[service name] IFTTT help online.

An Applet connects two or more apps or devices together. It enables you to do something that those apps or devices couldn't do on their own.

The PublicUrl and TemporaryUrl Ingredients create links that point to specific files involved in Applets.

PublicUrl Ingredient

It is accessible to anyone with the link Url and it does not expire. You should use this ingredient if you intend to access the file via the Url at some point in the future.

TemporaryUrl Ingredient

It is also accessible to anyone with the link Url, but it expires after 30 days. You should use this ingredient if your Applet accesses the Url once and then no longer needs it.

For example, if an Applet saves your photos to Dropbox, the TemporaryUrl ingredient can be used since the Appletwon'tneed that link Url to be active after the photo is uploaded to Dropbox.

IFTTT is a complex system and it may not always be clear where a problem originates. Many issues can be dealt with by following our guide on how to contact support or give feedback, but we encourage users to file a problem report if they can't get help from the service or notice a bug specifically with the IFTTT app or website.

You can sign up for IFTTT with your email, or you can connect with Google or Facebook.

Using IFTTT is free, and there's no limit to how many services you connect or how many Applets youcan turn on.

What is the Webhooks service?

The Webhooks service allows you to integrate other services on IFTTT with your DIY projects via simple web requests.

Can I publish an Applet with Webhooks?

No, Webhooks is for personal use only.

What if I want to build a service on IFTTT?

If you're interested in building a service on IFTTT, visit the platform and become a partner.

Is there a fixed range of IP addresses for Webhooks?

No, IFTTT does not set a fixed IP or range of IPs for Webhooks or any other services.

Where do I find my URL key?

If you are looking for your URL key to create a Webhook Applet with, you can find it under the Documentation link in the top right of the Webhooks service page.

How do I get support for Webhooks?

Because the projects made with Webhooks are so unique, were unable to offer technical support for those Applets. If you're having trouble we recommend that you join the IFTTT communities on Reddit and Hackster.io. They are large and engaged communities where users can connect with each other to get help with their projects and troubleshoot issues together.

Any Applet that works with one of the Button, Note, and Camera services can be a widget. Here's how to add and manage them.

Managing your widgets in the IFTTT app foriOS and Android

Applets using one of the aforementioned services will populate under the Widgets section under your profile in the IFTTT app. You can visit your profile by selecting the icon on the top right of the IFTTT app.

Widgets on iOS can be accessed in the and by long pressing the IFTTT app icon on the home screen for 3D Touch enabled devices.

Android

Note: If your widgets aren't working after updating to the 4.0 version of the IFTTT app, you may need to recreate them. A fix is forthcoming.

Oreo (8.0) or above

Go to the widget applet details screen in the IFTTT app

Press the Add homescreen widget button to prompt instructions.

Note: This instruction is handled by the Launcher app, not IFTTT. So it might vary in different Launcher apps.

Android 7 Nougat and below

Because the Launcher app can be different for different devices, these steps will only work for a subset of them. All of the stock Android devices follow this pattern.

Go to the device home screen.

Long press any empty space on home screen, this should prompt the widget menu to appear.

On the widget menu, find IFTTT.

Long press either IFTTT Small or IFTTT Large, and drag it to any empty space on home screen to add the widget.

There are two ways to stop Applets on IFTTT from running. You can simply sign in and turn off the Applet in your IFTTT account. Deleting your IFTTT account will delete your instances of the Applets as well.

On occasion, users will run into a scenario where something on IFTTT is running but they can't locate it in their account. For example, this can sometimes happen at companies where the person managing the IFTTT account is no longer there, but the Applets that IFTTT made are still active.

Many platforms offer ways to control permissions for connected services. You can revoke access to IFTTT in their settings. Here's some examples below:

Note: you will have to manually reconnect any services you disconnect within IFTTT if you'd like to use them in the future

IFTTT offers a couple different social sign-in methods in addition to the standard email and password login. There's a few things to be aware of when using this method, read on for more.

Does using social sign-on allow IFTTT to post on my Google or Facebook accounts?

No. This is just for added convenience when logging in to IFTTT.

Can I still login using my username and password?

Absolutely. New users signing in with social sign-in for the first time still have a password, it's just randomly generated. The only time you may need to use it is if you're connecting IFTTT to a service that doesn't play well with social sign-on.You can update your password at any time by resetting it.

Can I still use two-step authentication with social sign-in?

Of course! If you have it set up, youll be prompted to enter your two-factor code when you sign in with Google or Facebook.

I already have an IFTTT account. Can I use social sign-on?

You sure can, just make sure the email on your IFTTT account matches the one on your Google or Facebook account. Otherwise you may have an extra IFTTT account on your hands. If everything looks good, go to your account settings and scroll toLinked accounts to set up social sign-on.

Why do I still have to connect Google and Facebook services separately?

Using Google or Facebook's social sign-in method for your IFTTT account doesn't give IFTTT the same types of permissions needed for any Google or Facebook services to function. You'll still need to connect those individually.

No. We currently support one connected account per service.

If you want to have separate Applets for work accounts and personal accounts, we suggest making another IFTTT account.

Try troubleshooting the Philips Hue service by following the instructions below:

Verify you are logged into Hue app (v2)

Verify your Hue bridge is connected to your Hue account

Verify bridge is online in Hue app (v2)

Connectorreconnectthe Hue service - ensure you log in with the same credentials that you use on your Hue app.

Wait 15-20 seconds to be redirected to IFTTT

If you haven't had success with these steps, try resetting your Hue bridge, reconnecting it to your Hue app, and then connecting to IFTTT again to see if that makes a difference.

Voice over IP (VoIP) delivers phone call messages through the IFTTT app to your device. Its available internationally and is an excellent alternative to the Phone Call service. All you need is the latest version of the IFTTT app.

If you're getting an error that states No VoIP devices registered, try logging out of the IFTTT app and back in. Some Android 8.0+ users have also fixed this problem by long pressing on the IFTTT app, selecting App information, and then making sure that the IFTTT app has access to all permissions. You may need to still log out and back in if the error message persists.

In 2018, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) requested that CallKit functionality, which powers VoIP Calls, be deactivated in all apps available on the China App Store. If you downloaded the IFTTT app from the China App Store, then unfortunately VoIP Calls will not work for you.

The Weather service allows the location to be set for each Applet. This means that you can have multiple Weather Applets, each with a different location.

Instead of visiting the settings page of the Weather service to set your location, you'll set it when you turn on or edit an Applet. Here's what that looks like on the iOS app:

The Email service doesn't work with every email domain.If you use an email address with a common domain such as Gmail, iCloud, or Outlook, your Applets should work.

You can change the email address you have connected to IFTTT on the Email service's settings page.

For SMS two-step verification

Note:Users outside the U.S are strongly advised to use an authentication app instead of SMS as many carriers are not supported.

Disable two-step verification by visiting your settings

Enter in your existing two-step or backup code and your password when requested

Enable two-step verification and input your new phone number

Note: Remember to save your backup code! If you lose access to your phone number, you won't be able to recover your account without it.

For Applets

To update your phone number in Applets, you'll have to visit the settings page for the service that's using the number. Just look for Settingson the top right of the service page and edit your info. For instance, the SMS and Phone Calls services both have options to change your number in their settings menu.

To use Telegram Applets, you must first add the IFTTT bot to your Telegram account. Here's a video to walk you through the steps of setting this up:

After the bot is added to your account, you will need to make it an administrator for specific Telegram channels that you want it to be active in. Here's a video for how to make the IFTTT bot an admin of a specific Telegram channel or group:

Once the bot is an administrator for a channel, you will be able to select that specific Telegram channel in Applets that you turn on.

The first thing you should do is reset your password. We'll send a reset link to the email address associated with your IFTTT account.

It's asking me for a 6 digit two-step verification code.

Enter in the two-step verification code from your authentication method you set up when you enabled the extra security layer on your account. If you don't have that method available, enter in the backup code that you saved when you turned on two-step verification.

I'm not getting a two-step code or my backup code isn't working.

There could be a few reasons for this:

The phone number you use for SMS two-step verification changed

You're located in a country where SMS two-step verification may not work reliably

You switched phones and no longer have the authentication app installed

The backup code may have a typo or the one you saved is an older one, backup codes reset each time you disable and re-enable two-step verification

Can you reset my phone number or authentication method?

Unfortunately, we can't update the phone number or your authentication method for security reasons. We also don't have access to your backup codes.

What are my options?

If you're still stuck, the only option is to delete your IFTTT account so you can recreate it with the same email address. Please contact us with this request and we'll take care of it for you.

This will delete all current connections on your account. This cannot be reversed.
