Dr. Richard D. Klausner, also known as Rick, M.D., is a Co-Founder of Mindstrong, Inc. and serves as its Executive Chairman. Dr. Klausner serves as the Chief Strategy Advisor for USAID. Dr. Klausner serves as Scientific Advisor of Cyterix Pharmaceuticals Inc. He served as the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Illumina Inc. from September 23, 2013 to March 31st 2016 and served as its Interim General Manager of Oncology since 2013. Dr. Klausner was responsible for Illumina's strategies for advancing genomics into clinical medicine and public health. He is also part of Illumina's executive management team, which is responsible for directing all aspects of company strategy, planning and operations. He co-founded Pathwork Diagnostics, Inc. and Juno Therapeutics Inc. in 2002. He served as the Managing Partner at Column Group Venture Partners I, L.P and The Column Group LLC. Dr. Klausner worked at NIADDK from 1981 to 1984, when he served as Chief of the Cell Biology and Metabolism Branch at NICHD. He served as Chairman of Rally Health, Inc. He served as the Chairman and Member of the Strategic Development and Scientific Advisory Council at Sanofi from March 1, 2011 to January 2013. He served as Co-Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board and Scientific Advisor at Aragon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He serves as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board and Member of the Board of Directors at Rally Health, Inc. He has been a Director of Juno Therapeutics Inc. since August 2013. He serves as a Director and Member of Scientific Advisory Board of GRAIL, Inc. He served as Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Immune Design Corp. He served as Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Constellation Pharmaceuticals Inc. Dr. Klausner served as a Director of Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Dr. Klausner serves as the Chairman of the National Science Education Standards Projects of the National Academy of Science and oversees the first comprehensive process to provide a vision of scientific literacy in the American educational system and the criteria required to achieve it. He has been a Member of the National Academy of Sciences since 1993 and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 1995. Dr. Klausner is also a Member of the Institute of Medicine. He served on the Editorial Boards of several scientific journals, including Chemistry and Biology, Analytical Chemistry, New Biologist, Cell, the Annual Review of Cell Biology and the Journal of Cell Biology. Dr. Klausner served as a Senior Fellow at the National Academies of Science. At NCI, Dr. Klausner, along with Dr. Anthony Fauci, oversaw the creation and development of the Vaccine Research Center. He served as an Executive Director for Global Health at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Dr. Klausner served as the President at the American Society of Clinical Investigation. He served as an Advisor to the President of the Academies for counter-terrorism and a Liaison to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. From 1979 to 1981, he worked at NIH in National Cancer Institute's (NCI) Laboratory of Mathematical Biology. He was one of the cited scientists in the world in cellular and molecular biology, his research was recognized with numerous awards and honors, including the Outstanding Investigator Award from the American Federation of Clinical Research and the William Damashek Prize for major discoveries in hematology. He received the 1997 and 1998 Dickson Prize in Medicine and the 1998 Raymond Bourgine Award. Dr. Klausner is the Author of a textbook of medical immunology and of a widely used textbook of internal medicine. Dr. Klausner trained in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and was a Fellow in Internal Medicine at Duke Medical Center in 1976 to 1977. He has post-graduate medical training at Harvard. Dr. Klausner received an M.D. from Duke University and a BS in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University.
