Mr. Gary W. Eiland is a Partner at King & Spalding, LLP. Mr. Eiland served as a Partner and Lawyer of Vinson & Elkins LLP since 1991. Over the past 30 years, Mr. Eiland has built a practice focused on providing legal services to the health care industry. He is experienced in the special regulatory and organizational problems of health care providers, systems and academic medical centers. He has walked clients through complex fraud and abuse investigations, False Claims Act litigation, internal risk assessments, self-disclosures and successful pursuit of OIG advisory opinions. He has a nationally acclaimed health law practice counseling healthcare clients on compliance programs, maintaining high business standards and avoiding enforcement agency crosshairs. His experience also includes structuring healthcare business transactions and contractual relationships; advising clients concerning Medicare and Medicaid law and regulations; and handling Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, coverage and certification controversies and appeals. As part of his regulatory practice, he has represented clients at all levels of the judicial system, including the United States Supreme Court. He has earned national recognition for his work, including being named as a top health lawyer by The Best Lawyers in America for over 10 years; as an 'Outstanding Fraud and Compliance Lawyer' by Nightingale's Healthcare News; and as a leading healthcare lawyer second to none in the field by Chambers USA. His Representative Experience includes, represented various university medical schools in obtaining favorable Office of Inspector General advisory opinions addressing financial arrangements and donation of medical office building, represented various university medical schools and affiliated teaching hospitals regarding Medicare regulatory requirements for graduate medical education (GME) and indirect medical education (IME) payments, represented local governmental hospital district in transfer of hospital assets and operations to healthcare system and negotiation of Indigent Care Agreement between hospital district and healthcare system.
