Briefly describe your overall experience at your company
What do you like best about the leadership team?
Them good and team work
They are very communicative and open to hearing everyone's concerns and goals for their time at the zoo. We are in the middle of a couple senior staff transitions but the zoo has kept affected staff aware and involved in the entire process. Our new CEO Dr. Megan Ross is amazing.
What does the leadership team need to get better at?
Adaptive management, people focusing and less micromanaging.
What is the best part about your compensation package?
The zoo offers great affordable benefits options, medical, dental, vision, life, and disability. They ar supportive of staff taking time off, providing a great accrual rate for vacation time, mutliple personal days, maternity leave, and includes two float holidays in addition to typical holidays off
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
The gap between executive pay and how they pay well experienced applicants, often with vast experience or advanced degrees is staggering. I would feel better if it was higher starting salary for these type of candidates, and more value invested in ALL full time staff.
What are some of the best things about your team?
Our team bands together and accomplishes a lot - usually in spite of our manager.
My department is amazing. We are all very supportive of each other and everyone takes the time to answer each other's questions. We have strong communication and are focused on a common goal. Our individual teams focus on specific segments but are like a puzzle. I love both my past and current teams
What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better?

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
Willing to listen to hard things. Often willing to take action seemingly.
There is a great feeling of comradery and everyone is focused on improving the areas we lack in. We live "For Wildlife. For All." and it doesn't matter what your specific job is. We used to have zoo wide staff socialevents but the pandemic has made many of those virtual for now.
What needs to change to make the company culture better?

What did you like most about the interview process?
You interview with multiple people with roles in the department. You can ask them for their personal opinions and all have been very open about it. All have given contact information for follow-ups as needed. My last interview was with a Senior Vice President and she is still very open and friendly.

What makes you most happy at work?
Knowing that my work impacts something bigger. Lincoln Park Zoo has been pushing boundaries of what a Zoo is and can do for the world. We are the only free privately operated zoo in the United States giving people from all walks of life have access to wildlife species and conservation education.
