Executive Bio

Mr. John E. Littel has been Senior Vice President of External Affairs of Magellan Health, Inc. and served as it's Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Communications since June 16, 2015. In this role, Mr. Littel lead the government affairs strategy for the enterprise, while strengthening federal and state relationships across its business units. Prior to joining Magellan, he served as an Interim Senior Vice President of government affairs for WellPoint, where he reorganized their public affairs efforts and led the integration of their newly-acquired Amerigroup team. Mr. Littel served as an Executive Vice President of External Relations at Amerigroup Corporation until December 2012 and was responsible for growth and business development, including public policy, government relations and advocacy, sales and marketing and eBusiness. Mr. Littel served as an Executive Vice President of Government Relations and Senior Vice President of Government Relations at AMERIGROUP Corporation and served as its Vice President - Government Relations since 2001. Mr. Littel served at the federal and state government levels, including as the deputy secretary of Health and Human Resources for the Commonwealth of Virginia. On the federal level, he served as the director of intergovernmental affairs for the White House's Office of National Drug Control Policy. He has taught government, politics and communications at the graduate level and is a member of the William and Mary Public Policy Board of Advisors. He began his career in Pennsylvania as a Regional Office Manager for the late U.S. Senator H. John Heinz III and is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar. Mr. Littel served on the Boards of the Family and Children's Trust Fund Board, Virginia's family violence prevention agency and For Kids, a program for homeless families in Norfolk. He serves as Member of Board of Visitors at College of William & Mary. Mr. Littel earned his bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Political Science from the University of Scranton and a law degree from The Columbus School of Law at Catholic University.
