  • Our users asked, we listened. Introducing Single Search, a new and improved way to search for your favorite points of interest on MapQuest.

Search is a cornerstone of our product, and after feedback and testing we felt the need to increase usability while allowing our users to discover and explore new places.

Single Search now allows you to complete a search at any point during your experience, while also allowing you to gradually refine information and drill in further for more detailed results.

We have scaled back our layers offering and are focusing on the most popular categories, however you can still use the main search bar to refine results in the category of your choice by searching with a keyword.

We set out to build a responsive MapQuest.com with a human-centric design and as a result, the new MapQuest is about more than the interface and technology of the updated maps. Its about the unexpected connections they make possible.

We hope these changes make your search experience more enjoyable on MapQuest! As always, if you have any specific feedback relating to these changes please feel free to contact our support team, [email protected].

  • When signing up for a new MapQuest account, or going through the password reset steps, you will receive a verification code via email that will need to be entered before you can access your account.

Once you arrive on the screen where the code is to be entered, it is very important that you do not leave this page. We will then ask you to check your email which will need to be done in a separate tab within your browser, in a separate browser instance, or via your mobile phone or tablet so you can retrieve the code while ensuring you have not left the verification code screen.

Every time you leave the verification code screen to check your email, then return to it - it will create a new session, therefore a new code, and will deem your previous code invalid.

Once you access the code in a separate tab, browser, or mobile device, all you'll have to do is go back to the open MapQuest tab to enter it.

Opening Multiple Tabs Within Your Browser:

To open a new tab within your browser, simply click on the + sign, or box to the right of the tab you are currently on.

On a Mac, you can use a keyboard shortcut by pressing Command + T.

On a PC, you can use a keyboard shortcut by pressing Control (ctrl) + T.

    Chrome:

    FireFox:

    Safari:

    Internet Explorer:

    Opening New Browser Windows:

To open a new browser window, click on "file" from the top of your browser, then select "new window".

On a Mac, you can use a keyboard shortcut by pressing Command + N.

On a PC, you can use a keyboard shortcut by pressing Control + N.

  • If we're not finding your current location correctly the best first step is to check that Location Services are enabled on your device and that MapQuest has permission to use them.

Most Android devices will allow you to review and manage both the location permissions for your device and for any individual apps by opening your device's Settings and choosing Location. Here, you'll have to choose what kind of Location mode to enable on your device. For MapQuest to work best, you'll want to avoid using "Battery saving" mode, and try using either "High accuracy" or "Device only" mode, which may use cellular/Wi-Fi data or GPS to locate you as accurately as possible.

Please note:The steps to enable and manage your device's location settings can vary slightly by device, but this Google help article should include location mode instructions for your device and for individual apps on most Androids.

  • On January 31, 2014, the MapQuest Local Business Center shut down. After January 31st, users will no longer be able to log in to their LBC account to manage listings created or claimed with the now-retired LBC tool.

A letter went out in January letting our Local Business Center (LBC) users know that we were shutting down our Local Business Center. At that time, we informed all LBC users that if they wished to continue managing their listings, they would need to upgrade to a Premium Listings Package through our partner, Yext. For those users who did not wish to upgrade, we indicated that changes and updates made with the LBC tool would continue to be processed until January 31st, 2014. After that date, the listing would remain on MapQuest but changes could no longer be processed. At this point, we are not able to make any changes to existing listings created or claimed with our now-retired free business center tool.

We are still exploring options for editing listings created or claimed with the LBC tool, but are currently unable to do so with the recent shutdown. If you need to update a listing created or claimed with the LBC tool, you can either look into a Yext premium listings package, which will be able to override the current/outdated listing, or you may always contact us using the instructions above for updating a Business Listing.

Our Business Support team will be happy to help in any way we can.

  • If you ever see an advertisement on MapQuest that is overlapping or interfering with the features of our site and you don't see a way to close it, chances are it's actually coming from a third-party and not MapQuest.

Add-ons are small pieces of software that add new features or functionality to your web browser. Sometimes add-ons can cause problems that prevent web pages from displaying properly, cause intrusive advertisements to appear, or prevent you from using certain MapQuest features.

One easy action you can take to rule out add-on interference is to use a "private browsing" session to test MapQuest.com. Most modern browsers offer some form of private browsing, which loads webpages without loading any extensions or add-ons, cookies, or cached images or files so that everything will load fresh without interference from third-party sources.

If you think add-ons may be interfering with your browsing experience, please see the section for your specific, fully supported browser below for help disabling them...

To run Internet Explorer (versions 10 and 11) with no add-ons:

Access the Charm Bar either by moving your mouse all the way to the right side of your screen, or by pressing the Windows Key and letter "C" simultaneously

    Select Search

Type (or copy and paste) C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe extoff

Once the add-ons are disabled, please visit MapQuest.com to see if any issues persist

If running this "extensions off" version of Internet Explorer eliminates the problem you saw, click here to get specific instructions to fully disable add-ons in IE.

    Chrome:

Click the Chrome menu, which looks like three lines and is located on the browser toolbar

    Select Tools

    Select Extensions

On the Extensions page, click Disable next to each extension

Once the add-ons are disabled, please visit MapQuest.com to see if any issues persist

    Firefox:

    Open Firefox

Click the Firefoxmenu button in the upper right-hand corner

Click the Question Mark icon at the bottom of the Tools drop-down to Open the Help Menu

Click Restart with Add-ons Disabled from the Help drop-down list

Once the add-ons are disabled, please visit MapQuest.com to see if any issues persist

    Safari:

Click on Safari, located on the left of the menu bar

Select Preferences from the drop down menu

    Select the Extensions icon

Toggle the switch to the OFF position

Once the add-ons are disabled, please visit MapQuest.com to see if any issues persist

If you've already tried disabling all of the add-ons in your browser, cleared all of your cookies and cache, and ensured that you're using one of our fully supported browsers, please click here to send a message to our support team so we can learn more about any issues you're seeingand help to get you back on track to a great MapQuest experience.
