John P. Lauer — Chief Commercial Officer and Senior Vice President of Ocean Services at Matson

Mr. John P. Lauer has been Chief Commercial Officer of Matson, Inc. since April 27, 2017 and its Senior Vice President of Ocean Services since March 1, 2015. Mr. Lauer served as Vice President of Transpacific Services at Matson Navigation Company, Inc. since 2012. He served as Director of Transpacific services for Matson's China at Long Beach Express at Matson Navigation Company Inc. since May 2007. He has 30 years of experience in the maritime industry and has spent the last seven years at Matson overseeing its highly successful China service. Prior to Matson, he worked for APL for 19 year in a succession of positions with increasing responsibility in Chicago, Houston, Denver, Hong Kong, Los Angeles and New Jersey. Most recently, he was Managing Director, eastern region, for APL and APL Logistics at the NOL Group level. Mr. Lauer led these companies in reaching key performance sales and profit benchmarks. Prior to that, Mr. Lauer was Vice President, northeast area sales, for APL, Ltd. He led APL America's most profitable sales team, focusing on strategic vertical market segments and key global accounts. Other positions at APL include vice president, eastern region; managing director, Western area sales; and director of sales, Hong Kong/S PRC region. His sales efforts for APL's China service included leading a staff of 44 sales professionals based in China in APL's most important international market. Under his direction, APL reestablished itself as the number one market share carrier. Mr. Lauer has a bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame.
