Dr. Peter J. Zangari, Ph.D. has been Global Head of Research and Product Development and Managing Director at MSCI Inc. since February 2, 2017. Dr. Zangari sets the MSCI Inc.'s research agenda and drives integration of research into firm's products and services to deliver innovative solutions to investment problems. Dr. Zangari served as the Head of Analytics at MSCI Inc. from February 2015 to February 2, 2017, responsible for its equity and multi-asset class risk and portfolio management products. Prior to this role, he served as the Head of Equity Portfolio Management Analytics since August 2011 until February 2015. Dr. Zangari was responsible for driving growth and product innovation across a broad range of equity portfolio management products, including Barra risk and performance attribution models and Barra Portfolio Manager. Before this, Dr. Zangari served as a Managing Director, Head of Risk and as a member of the leadership team for Quantitative Investment Strategies business at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, L.P. As a member of the management team, he worked closely with senior investment personnel to manage the business's multi-asset class hedge funds and equity portfolios. From 2004 to 2009, Dr. Zangari served various positions including Senior Portfolio Manager and Head of Implementation for the Quantitative Equities Business. As the Head of Implementation, his responsibilities included portfolio construction, investment risk and attribution and information management. Dr. Zangari joined Goldman Sachs Asset Management in 1998 and led a team that built and implemented the firm's proprietary risk and attribution platform. From 1998 to 2003, he served as the Head of the Portfolio Analysis and Construction Environment Group at GSAM. Earlier, Dr. Zangari worked at JPMorgan Chase & Co. for four years in RiskMetrics and Firmwide Risk Groups, where he conducted extensive research in the areas of market and credit risk. Dr. Zangari is one of the original members of RiskMetrics and his work in this area has been widely published. He has 11 years of industry experience. He has published several articles on measuring market risk. Dr. Zangari serves as an Associate Editor at the Journal of Risk and the Journal of Asset Management. He has a Ph.D. in Economics, with a specialization in Applied Econometrics and Computational Statistics, from Rutgers University and is a graduate summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Fordham University in New York City.
