What do you like best about the leadership team?

Leadership Reviews

My manager puts our work-life balance above her own, she shouldn't have to but she does everything she can to make up where our execs fall short.

My store manager was amazingly kind, supportive, and trustworthy. The executive team and higher leadership are the ones that have decided to make the company all about them and throw away all of the values that used to make Mud Bay special.

Open and honest communication regularly.

They've always find the best way to support our employees.

The leadership team is very open and accessible. They work hard to think about the Muddies (employees) as much as the customers.

What does the leadership team need to get better at?

Leadership Reviews

Just being transparent about who they are and what they want. Stop calling it an employee owned company, it philosophically is not. It will always be a family owned company run by the Wullfs.

There is no communication within the executive team, mercy team, and stores. There is a complete lack of consistency.

What is the best part about your compensation package?

Compensation Reviews

Food discount on pet food

Pay and benefits are better than most IMO.

Fair and competitive for size of company

The benefits package is offered at a very low cost to employees. The company picks up about 75% of the bill.

Mud Bay benefits are great.

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

Compensation Reviews

Employees were expected to sign a paper saying that they quit and waive their rights to unemployment benefits or go from full-time to part-time. It was a disaster and now employees have been forced to figure out their next move just to simply have job security and a means to be able to live.

It'd be nice for benefits and compensation to be treated as a right rather than a privilege that I should be grateful or grovel for. It's not about how far you've come in terms of pay for employees, it's about comparing yourself to the rest of the market.

Instead of matching 401k you get an ESOP to which they have made any information about it so so hard to access and understand. There have been new people hired on at higher wages than tenured staff due to oversights and the new hires were told to keep it quiet.

What are some of the best things about your team?

Team Reviews

My team was amazing and we were able to build a strong community. We were supportive and communicative, all working towards providing the best customer service to any person that walks through the doors.

Everyone is willing to help.

Typically, outside of leadership that are external hires, coworkers at Mud Bay are fun, creative, compassionate, and empathetic individuals. On good days they are able to use these talents at work and thrive because of it. Generally, they are good people to be around and a pleasure to learn from.

Fun loving people with a good sense of humor

My team is focused on our mission. Contributing to the health of dogs and cats and the happiness of those who care for them as we build a strong company we are proud of.

What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better?

Team Reviews

Don't use meetings as a place to complain about your coworkers, your boss, or just complain in general. There's a difference between airing opinions and toxic negativity.

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?

Environment Reviews

Getting to interact with people's pets.

The positive thing about the company are the staff members you get to work with in your store. They make the day go by quickly and are always open to making sure we work together as a team.

Flexibility and trust in my ability and work ethic.

It's a learning environment. Employees are encouraged to learn and grow. They are not penalized for making simple mistakes.

Interacting with my colleagues and dogs and cats. Open and honest. All shareholders are equally important, Dogs and Cats, Customers, and Muddies.

What did you like most about the interview process?

Interviews Reviews

Straight forward communication. A mutual opportunity to discuss.

A long time ago, interviewing was conversational and those who interviewed me were genuine during the process. I was impressed and pleased. I was surprised upon thinking back that they were easily able to get me to speak on what i was looking for, matching me well with the company (at the time).

Seemed genuine at the time

Fair and straight forward interview process.

What would you improve about your company's interview process?

Interviews Reviews

The interview process only involved people that literally had no knowledge about what goes on in the store. Also some of the people were not safe to be around and involved the police. Should really do a thorough background check and let the store interview the people, too.

The hiring process has completely changed from valuing employee and manager input to not including them at all

What makes you most happy at work?

Outlook Reviews

consistent growth and opportunity for those looking for it.

The team is the best!

Learning about pet care and using curated stock to help customers learn and care for their pets is the best. Meeting the pets makes me want to cry with joy, especially when they are happy and thriving. Frequently I hear feedback about what works and doesn't work from customers, making my job easier!

The customers, the dogs that come in, being paid decent-ish for an easy job

Being with a team of like minded individuals brining gracious service to each other and to our customers so they can take care of their pets.

What's going wrong and how can it be improved?

Outlook Reviews

What's wrong is the company is throwing away all their employees that know and enjoy providing customers with that special Mud Bay experience. If Mud Bay actually hired someone that understood business they would not have made all these horrible decisions costing good people their jobs.
