I've been employed by the government for most of my career. I have never seen managers who do not understand what they are managing until I started working for NASA.

Concern regarding negative working conditions; Eliminating dysfunction in the workplace; removing obstacles to productivity

They are very nice, and they have nothing to get better at except eating all the donuts.

The permissive leadership style was a double-edged sword. The downside is that it created a lack of accountability and made it easy for people to disregard work that needed to be done. This created an environment where all the hard work/tough problems were never getting fixed

I have some coworkers who are wonderful, but it is the idiots who are rewarded. No one knows why. If the human resources were run like industry, NASA would retain its superstars, and be the phenomenal place to work, just like in the 60s and 80s

The wrong people are being allowed to be the face of NASA to industry and to other space agencies. Someone needs to clean house, and put the people who are waiting in the wings in place of the people who should be gone, before they are stolen by industry.
