Mr. Joseph T. Kelliher has been an Executive Vice President of Federal Regulatory Affairs at NextEra Energy, Inc. since May 18, 2009. Mr. Kelliher has two decades of federal experience provide him with deep knowledge of the federal regulatory system. He served as Senior Policy Advisor to Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham. In that capacity, Mr. Kelliher advised the Secretary on a wide range of energy policy matters. Mr. Kelliher helped develop the National Energy Policy. He served as Senior Policy Advisor to the Secretary since the inauguration of President George W. Bush and his term of office expires on June 30, 2007. Before joining the Department of Energy, Mr. Kelliher served on the Bush/Cheney Presidential Transition Team. Previously, Mr. Kelliher was of Counsel with the law firm of LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae. He served as Majority Counsel to the House Committee on Commerce from 1995 to 2000, where he was responsible for electricity, hydropower, conservation, nuclear waste and other energy legislation. Mr. Kelliher restructured the agency, establishing two new offices: an Office of Enforcement dedicated to the enforcement of FERC requirements and market oversight and investigations and the Office of Electric Reliability to review and improve reliability standards. From 1991 to 1995, Mr. Kelliher represented Public Service Electric and Gas Company before the Congress on a wide range of energy legislation. In the late 1980s, Mr. Kelliher worked for the American Nuclear Energy Council, where he was responsible for nuclear licensing reform and various regulatory issues. In the mid-1980s, Mr. Kelliher served on the staff of Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX). In the early 1980s, Mr. Kelliher worked at the law firm of Preston, Thorgrimson, Ellis & Holman. Mr. Kelliher has worked on energy issues for over 20 years. Mr. Kelliher served as Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission from July 2005 to January 2009 and also served as its Director. As Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Mr. Kelliher presided over a period of tremendous activity at the agency that included enhanced enforcement of FERC rules and policy initiatives to strengthen the power grid, prohibit market manipulation of electric and gas markets and reduce gas price volatility. Mr. Kelliher was a Commissioner at the FERC since November 20, 2003. Mr. Kelliher did his BSFS in 1983 from Georgetown University, School of Foreign Service and J.D., Magna Cum Laude in 1994 from American University Washington College of Law.
