Richard Francis — CEO, Sandoz at Novartis

Mr. Richard Francis has been CEO of Sandoz at Novartis AG since 2014. Mr. Francis served as Division Head and Chief Executive Officer of Sandoz International GmbH and Sandoz Canada Inc. since May 01, 2014. Mr. Francis joined Sandoz from Biogen Idec, where he held global and country leadership positions over his 13-year career with the company. He served as the President and General Manager at Biogen Idec Canada Inc. He joined Novartis from Biogen Idec, where he held global and country leadership positions over his 13-year career with the company. He served as the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Biogen Idec's US Commercial organization. In that role, Mr. Francis led several successful launches, including that of Tecfidera, Tysabri and the Avonex pen and titration devices, all important advances in the treatment of multiple sclerosis. From 1998 to 2001, he was at Sanofi in the United Kingdom, where he held various marketing roles across the company's urology, analgesics and cardiovascular products. He has also held sales and marketing positions at Lorex Synthelabo and Wyeth. He has been a Director of Mettler-Toledo International Inc. since May 2016. He also served as a Member of the Board of Directors at BIOTECanada. Mr. Francis holds a BA in Economics from the Manchester Metropolitan University, England.
