How's the vacation policy at Northwestern Medicine?
It was very good when I started at NU, and I've been grandfathered in, so I can continue to save/keep all vacation time that I earn into subsequent years. I think that now, most people her between 2-4 weeks of paid vacation annually, and any unused days beyond 23 accrued vacation days (4.5 weeks) are forfeited at the end of the fiscal year.
How common is it to switch departments or teams at Northwestern Medicine?
It can be very common, especially between positions that are grant-funded. But this is still true for hard money positions. Hiring managers can see which applicants are current/former NU employees on the HR home dashboard.
What are the differences between maternity and paternity leave at Northwestern Medicine?
Faculty can take 10-12 weeks (depending on vaginal vs C-section delivery) of maternity leave plus 14 weeks for child rearing leave, sequentially (faculty). Last I looked, father's get 4 weeks paternity leave that must be taken before the baby reaches 12 weeks of age.
