  • Multi-user support will empower you to safely and reliably share access and control of your Notion Home with friends and family you trust. Invite your spouse, children, friends or neighbors as managers to allow them to access your Notion system.

How to add a manager to your Notion system

    Tap on Account

    Tap on People

    Tap Add Manager

Tap Grant Manager Access and follow the in-app instructions

Onceyou'veinvited a manager, its important they follow the instructions in the email invitation. They will need to click the link in that email to download the app and create their own Notion account. The link in the email is unique to them and the only way access to your system can be granted. Once they create an account, theyll be prompted to accept your invitation and will be automatically added to your Notion system.

    Managers can also:

Set their own individual preferences for notifications, including night time alerts, alerts while at home or alerts while away, different temperature preferences and system outages

Add or delete sensors, or add or delete tasks to sensors that are already installed

    Add or delete bridges

    Remove themselves from a system

    Managers cannot:

Add or remove other managers from the system

Change the home or away status of the system

Change the name or location of the system

    Delete the system

Allowing a user to access your system as a manager will not affect your ability to interact with your Notion system as you are used to it. You will still get all the same alerts to inform you about your home, only your friends and family will too!

As the owner of the system, you will also get notifications any time a manager adds or deletes a sensor, task or a bridge.

How to add a secondary contact to your NotionPRO account

If you do not have a manager on your Notion system, youll need to follow the steps above before you can add a NotionPRO secondary contact. Onceyou'veadded a new manager, they will need to complete the registration process for NotionPRO in their own Notion app by going to Settings > Integrations > NotionPRO and follow the in-app instructions.

The secondary contact for NotionPRO will receive notifications when an alarm is triggered and can de-escalate or escalate alarms. However, in the event of an emergency, Noonlight will only call the primary contact listed on the NotionPRO account.

Feel free to reach out with any questions you have about multi-user support. Simply click here to submit a ticket.

  • Sensors may disconnect from your system for a number of reasons. We'll do our best to get you back on track. Please note, as of September 10, 2019, Gen 1 sensors are no longer supported. If you have questions or need to upgrade your system, please reach out to [email protected].

For all other connection issues, follow the questions below:

    1) Does the Notion app show that all of your sensors are disconnected?

If Yes, continue to question 2.

If No, continue to question 3.

2)What color is the LED on your bridge flashing?

If blue or red, troubleshoot your bridge here.

If green, jump to question 3 and troubleshoot each sensor individually.

    3) Wait a few minutes. Does the sensor reconnect on its own?

If yes, it may be that the sensor does not have a strong connection with the bridge. Try moving the bridge to closer to the sensor and see if it comes online.

Note:Take into account any physical obstructions like walls and doors as well as any interference from other radio devices in your home. Click here for more information on interference.

If no, continue to question 4.

    4) Is the sensor flashing any of its LED's?

If it's consistently flashing blue, your sensor probably needs a new battery. Replace the battery and look for the sensor to flash the LED's again.

If it flashes blue and/or green once, wait a few minutes and refresh your app to see if the sensor comes back online.

If it's consistently flashing red, it cannot find the bridge. Try moving the bridge closer to the sensor and waiting a to see if it comes online within a few minutes.

If the sensor still does not flash any LED's, or if the sensor is still disconnected after flashing different LED's, continue to question 5

    5) Do you have 2nd Generation sensors?

Cycle the Battery -Twist the sensor body counter-clockwise and remove it from the base plate. Remove the batteries and leave them out for 10 seconds. Reinstall the batteries and twist the sensor body on to the base plate. Make sure to twist the sensor body all the way until you feel a click.

Replace the batteries.Look for the sensor to flash blue and then green.

  • Are your sensors showing low signal strength in the app? Or are they regularly disconnecting and reconnecting on their own? Or are you havingtroublecalibrating your sensors?

Any of these issues could be related to poor signal strength between your sensor and your bridge. Many factors can influence sensorsignal strength, so let's dig into a handful of them and how to troubleshoot.

    Symptoms

There are a few behaviors that indicate your sensors may besuffering from interference:

The app shows low signal strength onthe sensors tab in system settings.

Your sensors often disconnectand reconnect on their own a few minutes later.

Your sensors might miss an alert every once in a while.

Installing your sensor might take a long time or you get an error that says your sensor is not calibrated after installing.

    Quick Troubleshooting Tips

Every home is different, and what works for one might not work for another. Troubleshooting wireless interference can require a bit of trial and error. Here are some things to try:

Moveyour bridge to a few different locations around your home. Sometimes moving your bridge just one outlet over can make all the difference! Ideally, plug your bridge into an outlet that's centrally located to all your sensors, though you may stillhave success if some sensors are slightly farther from the bridge than others to account for interference.

If possible, move your sensor to a different location. The same principles apply for sensors as they do for a bridge; a small change can make a big difference!

Unplug or move other electronics that might be causing interference. Not sure where to start? We've outlined some more details below.

Contact support to discuss adding an additional bridge to your system. A second bridge will act like a WiFi extenderfor your sensors.

Wantmore information?More details below about the three most common types of wireless interference foundat home.

Interference From Walls, Doors and Other Construction

To get the most out of your Notion home awareness system, you probably will install sensors in numerous rooms and on various floors. This means at least a few sensors will need to connect to a bridge through a wall or a floor. Less dense materials, like wood or drywall, won'thave a huge impact on signal strength. However, avoid placing sensors where materials like brick, metal orconcrete could block the connection to the bridge. For example, don't place a sensor behind your refrigerator.

    Interference From Other Electronics

Any electronic device that emits a wireless signal--like cordless phones, bluetooth speakers or baby monitors--can interfere with your Notion sensors. It's also possible for larger electronics, like your microwave or TV, to emitenough signal noise toaffect a sensor's connection to the bridge.

Bonus tip!To limit interference from other electronics, unplug devices when they're not in use. Ortry moving your Notion bridge away from big electronics.

    Interference From Competing WiFi Networks

Have you noticed when you connect to your home WiFi that a bunch of other networks pop up as options to connect to? In cities, apartment buildings and tightly-packed neighborhoods, interference from other WiFi networks is very common.

WiFi networks broadcast on channels, and when multiple networks are set to the same channel, they'll constantly be competing with each other. When that happens, your Notion bridge might have a tough time talking to your sensors.

If you run into this issue, invest in a router with a channel switching feature so that your network will automatically choose the least crowded WiFi channel.

  • Is Notion telling you your door is open when it's not?Are you not receiving door alerts?

    What do I do?

Occasionally sensors can get out of sync with Notion's backend. When this happens use the 'Sync Door Task' feature to get it back on track. This works on hinged doors, hinged windows, and garage doors.

How to use the 'Sync Door Task' feature:

From the home page in the app, tap on the task that needs to be synced.

Scroll to the bottom of the 'Task Details' screen and tap on 'Sync Door Task'

Followthe in-app instructions to sync the task - this can take up to a few minutes, so we'll send you a push notification when the sync is complete.

After the sync is complete, the sensor will go back to reporting that your door is closed and it will resume reporting motion from your door as it is designed to do.

    How does this happen?

Notion sensors can get into this state for a few reasons. The sensor has a small compass inside that detects what direction the sensor is pointing. When a battery is replaced, it can become magnetized and then the sensor state isstuck open.

Other reasons include existing security systems that use magnets. If you have one of these in your home you will need to move your Notion sensor at least 3 feet from the security system before re-syncing.

These are the two most common causes of a sensor getting stuck open, however you might notice that your sensor can get stuck without either of these things. If this is the case, simply use the 'Sync Door Task' feature to get your sensor back on track!

    Still having trouble?

If the 'Sync Door Task' does not fix your sensor, or if you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected] or by phone at (877) 668-4660. Happy monitoring!

  • The Best Location For A Hinged Door or Hinged Window Task

In every case we say that the sensor needs to feel the task happening to report it accurately. For a hinged motion task, this means the sensor should be placed on the door or window, as far from the hinges as possible.

The Best Location For A Sliding Door or Sliding Window Task

The specific placement of a sensor does not matter much here as long as the sensor is installed on the panel of the window or door that will actually move. The only condition is that the sensor needs to be mounted vertically.

The Best Location For A Garage Door Task

For a sensor to register a garage door, the sensor needs to change from a vertical orientation to a horizontal one. As long as the sensor feels the full range of motion, it will trigger an alert

The Best Location For A Smoke Alarm Task

This one is a little tricky. Because the sensor is listening for your existing smoke alarm to sound, the sensor needs to be installed in a way where it can hear and feel the vibrations created by your smoke alarm. This means the sensor needs to be mounted on the same surface as your smoke alarm, within 18 inches. The brass disc on the bottom of the sensor must also maintain a stable interface with the wall.

The Best Location To Detect Water Leaks

Mounting a sensor to detect a water leak is extremely flexible. In a lot of cases you would not even need to remove the adhesive backing as long as you know the sensor will stay put. The only trick is to make sure that the bottom of the sensor will actually feel the water that you are trying to detect. This means the sensor needs to be at the lowest point in the area where water will collect. The sensor cannot be on a pedestal and there cannot be anything that would block potential water leaks from flowing to the sensor.

    Other Thoughts

Notion sensors can be susceptive to wireless interference in the signal strength as well as extreme weather. If you are hoping to measure the temperature inside your freezer, the sensor will probably have a hard time connecting to your bridge because of the metal in the freezer door. Additionally the batteries in the sensor will expire much faster due to colder temperatures.

The same applies to sensors outdoors. The construction is weather resistant but not weather proof, so a heavy rain or melting snow may damage your sensor, and it may be difficult for a sensor to maintain a connection to your bridge if the signal needs to travel through an exterior wall.

Finally, sensorshave a maximum range of 75 feet from the bridge in a perfect world with no interference. However, the average home has many different sources of interference including construction and other wireless signals. Click here to learn more about interference.

  • The beauty of Notions sensors is that you can pick and choose when you want to receive notifications for different events. Follow the steps below to dial in your notification settings.

Sending Notifications When Home, Away or At Night

By default when you set up a new sensor or task, all alerts will be turned on. To adjust this, select the task that you want to edit from the home screen. There are three toggles at the bottom of the page, one for each setting. Your sensor will send an alert if any of the cases are true. For example, you might have alerts turned off when you're home. But if you're home, it's night time and you have alerts for night time turned on, then you'll receive a notification.

To adjust your preferences there, simply click each toggle to change the setting. When the toggle is green, that means the alerts are turned on.

Changing Your Preference For Home and Away Modes

By default, Notion uses your phone's location to determine how it should handle alerts based on your home and away preferences. If you would prefer to manually tell the app if you are home or away, from the home screen, click the top right corner where it says "At Home" or "Away". The toggle at the very top will adjust your preference for automatic home vs away switching; green indicates that automatic switching is turned on.

If you turn automatic switching off, you can use this same menu to change your status within the app. This way your phone will still know when to adjust alerts if you are home or away.

    Changing Your Night Time Limits

"Night time" is different for everyone. Maybe you go to bed late, or maybe you work night shifts and sleep during the day. Whatever the context you can edit the time the app considers 'night time" to suit your preferences.

In the Notion app, click the gear icon and click where night time settings is listed. From there you can edit the start and end of "night time" to whatever you prefer.

The freedom here allows you to use night time as any specific time that you want to get notifications from your system. Forexample, if your kids get home from school before you get home from work, you could change "night time" to be 2 PM to 6 PM and turn on night time alerts. Then you will receive notifications for your kids activity while you're not home.

Remember, for each task needs to send pushnotifications at night, you will need to turn on "Send alerts at night" in the task details page.

Changing Your Preference For System Outage Notifications

System outages occur any time your bridge is disconnected from your home WiFi network for longer than 10 minutes. You can determineif you want to receive a notification that your network is down based on your preference. To edit your settings, click the gear icon and change the toggle at the top.

Changing Your Temperature Format And Your Temperature Thresholds

The Notion app can record temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius. To adjust your preference, select the small person icon and navigate to the preferences tab.

Notion sensors default to a simple range where you will receive a notification if the recorded temperature is higher or lower than your limits. To adjust the limits, select the temperature task that you want to edit. Scroll down and use the settings there to set the upper and lower bounds.

If you have any questions about how alert preferences change the notifications that you will or will not receive, feel free to reach out to our support desk. Click here to submit a ticket, or we are available by email at [email protected] or by phone at (877)668-4660.

  • Best Place For Your Bridge During Bridge Set Up

Generally we suggest starting with your bridge in the same room as your WiFi router. Bridge set up requires a lot of information to pass between your bridge and our cloud servers and this will ensure your bridge can maintain a stable connection during setup.

Best Place For Your Bridge During Sensor Set Up

After your bridge is set up, it can be moved around freely anywhere in your home as long as the bridge can connect to your WiFi router. If you live in a home that is less than 2000 square feet, you should be able to pick one central location for your bridge and leave it there.

If your home is larger than 2000 square feet, you may want to move your bridge around while you set up your sensors. Plugthe bridge in less than 15 feet from where you want to install the sensor. Wait for the LED on the bridge to turn greenand then scan the QR code on the sensor. Do this for each sensor one at a time to ensure that calibration goes smoothly.

Best Place For Your Bridge For Normal Use Of Your System

Once your bridge and sensors are set up and calibrated correctly, you can choose where you want to leave the bridge plugged in in your home. The bridge should be central to all of your sensors while limiting the possibility for interference. Make sure the bridge is not plugged in behind thingslike your fridge,TV or dresser, and do your best to limit the number of walls and doors in the way. If you find that your sensors have a hard time staying connected to your bridge but they automatically reconnect on their own after a few minutes, the most likely culprit is interference.

(Wireless Interference and How To Troubleshoot Low Signal Strength)

Finding the best place for your bridge may take some trial and error, but usually all it takes is moving your bridge to a few different spots. Even small changes can make big differences here.

If you are are not able to find a place for your bridge where all of your sensors can stay connected, reach out to our support team at [email protected] or by phone at (877)668-4660.

  • Having trouble setting up your bridge? We're happy to help. Take a look at our guide below for suggestions.

The Notion app can't find my bridge

Is your bridge plugged in and flashing blue? If it'sred, we'll need to reset the bridge.

Did you plug your bridge in within the last 30 minutes? A bridge is only searchable for the first 30 minutes after its been plugged in. If it's been longer than 30 minutes, or you see it flashing purple, simply unplug it and plug it back in before trying again.

How close is your bridge to your router? During the initial setup, it may help to move the bridge closer to your router.

Are location services turned on for your phone and allowed for the Notion app to access? We need your home location during bridge setup so we can tailor your notifications if you are at home or away.Check your phone settings and turn location services on.

Confirm that your WiFi router has a 2.4 GHz band for the bridge to connect. Most modern routers have a dual band setting that broadcasts both a 2.4 GHz and a 5.0 GHz band, and the Notion bridge is only compatible with the 2.4 GHz band. You may need to access your WiFi router settings to activate the 2.4 GHz band.

The Notion app can't configure my bridge

There are a few different issues that can cause errors in the bridge set up process. You might see different error messages, but the troubleshooting process is similar for each error:

Make sure that you are entering the correct WiFi password for your network

Connect your phone to a 2.4 GHz WiFi network. If you have a dual-band WiFi router, you may need to "forget" the 5.0 GHz band

If you're using an iPhone to set up the bridge, go to the WiFi settings of your phone:

Turn off the setting that says "Ask to Join Networks"

At the bottom of the list of available WiFi networks, find your Notion bridge under "Set Up New Device". Click on it there and follow the prompts

At the end, go back to the Notion app and follow through with the bridge set up process there to add the bridge to your system in the app

If the LED on the bridge turns green, that means it's connected. Ifyou continue to see errors after this, contact our support desk for assistance

If the LED on your bridge turns red:

Confirm that you entered the correct password for your WiFi network

Check your WiFi router settings to see if you have a firewall enabled. Disable your firewall or allow your Notion bridge access. If you need information about the bridge's MAC address to bypass your firewall, each bridge has a unique address that either includes40E230 or 80A589. If you need information on the specific ports of your firewall to open, they areTCP port 5280 and TCP port 443.

Make sure your WiFi router is using WPA2 security settings. Click here for more information on WiFi security.

If you still cannot set up your bridge after troubleshooting, contact our support team for assistance. Please be ready to share the seven digit serial number of your bridge (it's on the back and starts with f00) as well as any steps that you took to troubleshoot along the way. Click here to submit a ticket, or We're available by email at [email protected] or by phone at (877)668-4660.

  • When a Notion sensor detects an event in your home, it sends a message to the bridge through a wireless radio. The bridge sends the information to our servers over the internet via your WiFi router. Our servers check your notifications preferences and then decide if we should send a push notifications to your phone for the event.

All of this means that you need to have a working internet connection in your home for Notion to accurately detect events like a door opening or a water leak under your sink.

To get technical, information moves between Notion sensors and the bridge using a proprietary 802.15.4 protocol. This allows the bridge to communicate with many different sensors in a single network.

  • Having trouble adding a bridge to Notion? We're here to help! Here are couple things to check:

Is your bridge plugged in and flashing blue? If it's green, we'll need to reset the bridge.

Did you plug your bridge in within the last 30 minutes? A bridge is only searchable within 30 minutes of being plugged in. If it's been over a half hour since you plugged in the bridge, please unplug it and replug it back in before trying again.

  • Each version of the Notion sensor looks similar and both are capable of the same tasks. However, there are several differences between each version that are important to note for setup and troubleshooting. Use this information to determine which sensor you have.

Our first generation sensor is about the size of an Oreo, but the second generation is a little bit bigger, about the size of a Chips Ahoy! This allows us to fit two lithium AAA batteries in the sensor for improved battery life. To get specific, the second generation sensor is 2.25 inches in diameter, the first generation sensor is 2 inches in diameter.

Click here to submit a ticket.

2nd Generation on the left, 1st Generation on the right

The second generation sensor is simplified on the outside a bit. On the bottom of the second generation sensor we were able to remove the big brass disc. The first generation sensor still has the brass disc.

2nd Generation on the left, 1st Generation on the right

We were also able to improve the waterproof rating of the second generation sensor to IP67. This means that the new sensor has a neoprene seal around the base to protect it from the elements

  • Battery life is determined by the usage of the sensors and the hardware version.

If you have second generation sensors, we expect the battery life to be about one year.

If you have first generation sensors, our continued internal testing has shown that batteries will usually last about 3 months.

Not sure which sensors you have? Find out here.

In an effort to preserve the electronics in the sensors, we made the batteries easily replaceable without any special tools. Find out more about changing your sensor's battery here.

If you need to replace the batteries in your second generation sensors, you will have the best performance with Energizer Ultimate Lithium AAAs. You can use normal alkaline AAAs, but you may notice a shorter battery life as a result. If you need to replace the batteries in your first generation sensors, you will need to use a CR2477N lithium coin cell..

  • If you weren't already aware, Notion is capable of monitoring many different functions all at the same time without the added complexity of different sensors for different functions. One function that is easily forgettable is the option to monitor the temperature of a specific space.

Often our users add the temperature task to a sensor as a secondary task. Perhaps the sensor is primarily dedicated to detecting water leaks, or a smoke alarm, but the sensor can detect temperature in addition to these other functions. This is helpful when the temperature can potentially alert you of other local issues.

The temperature task can be a great way to check on the health of your HVAC system in every day life. If you want to install Notion at your vacation home, the temperature task can make sure things don't gettoo cold so that your pipes don't burst. Or if you are worried about an old AC unit in the summer time, Notion can warn you that your house is warming up before you even get home. Or if you know that one room in your house is always colder than the rest, you could use data from Notion to adjust the temperature on your smart thermostat so your whole house stays comfortable.

The best part about all of this is that each Notion sensor can add the temperature task on top of a door task, smoke alarm, or a leak task. This means you don't need to compromise on your primary goal for your Notion system to add the temperature functionality.

One limitation here is that the sensor can't be installed inside of a refrigerator or freezer. The metal in the doors of a standard fridge is enough to completely block the signal between a sensor and the bridge.

If you have any questions about how to use the temperature task in your sensors, feel free to reach out to our support desk at [email protected] or by phone at (877)668-4660.

  • Is Notion A Security System?

Not exactly. We like to say that home security is a subset of home awareness. Notion sensors can certainly tell you if a door opens or a window breaks butthey'realso much more versatile. Security needs vary drastically from home to homeand we encourage everyone to design and implement a solution that meets their needs.

Can I Install Notion Alongside My Existing Security System?

Notion is a great compliment to the security system already installed in your home. Notion offers the mobile app as well as our versatile all-in-one sensor. There is nocomplicated installation or set up process and you don't have to pay any subscription fee to use your Notion sensors.

    A Few Considerations

If you have a security system and you want to add Notion to your home, there are a few limitations to consider:

Door sensors from security systems employ magnets to determine when a door is open or closed. Make sure you install your Notion sensor at least 24 inches away from your security door sensor so the magnet does not affect the Notion sensor.

Notion sensors are optimized to listen only for smoke alarm beeps. If you hope to use Notion to detect the beeps from your security system panel we cannot guarantee the accuracyof the sensor in this context.

  • This article will cover anything that you might run into while setting up your Notion sensors for the first time.

    My Sensor Won't Wake Up

The sensor will have a green, plastic battery tab that prevents the batteries from powering the sensor. Make sure that it is fully removed before setting up your sensor.

When your sensor is awake, it will blink green. (What do the sensor LED's mean?)

If youre still having trouble, try cycling the batteries. Twist the white body of the sensor counter-clockwise to separate it from the gray baseplate. Remove the batteries and replace them, then look for the sensor to flash.

I Can't Scan The QR Code

Make sure that you follow the steps to scan the QR code on the sensor before you adhere it to a surface. If your phone is having trouble focusing on the QR code on the sensor, try the steps below:

Make sure there is plenty of light in the room. Turning on the flashlight on the phone can help.

Place the sensor on a stable surface with a blank background; something like a table or counter-top.

Start with your phone about 5 inches away from the sensor, and try moving your phone closer to or further from the code to force your phone to adjust its focus

If you've already stuck the sensor to a surface, then twist the white body of the sensor counter-clockwise to remove it from the baseplate. There's a copy of the QR code to scan on the inside of the sensor.

If you're using Android, download a 3rd party QR code reader app. Scan the code on your sensor, and when the Notion app prompts you to scan again, click the upper right hand corner to bring up the menu. Click "manually enter ID" and enter the sensor's ID.

After you scan the QR code, the app will check to make sure your sensor is awake. If the app shows you error messages here, follow troubleshooting steps above to wake up your sensor.

I Can't Pick a Location For My Sensor

After you scan the QR code, you can either pick a default location or you can enter a custom one. If the app is not letting you pick a location, make sure you pick something unique that you are not currently using for one of your other sensors.

I Can't Choose the Tasks That I Want

Each sensor is capable of the same possible tasks, but that doesn't mean that a sensor can do everything at once. Different tasks require the sensor to be installed differently, so the app will not let you choose two conflicting tasks for one sensor. In general, the sensor can detect one motion tasks, the smoke alarm task, or the leak tasks. Then you can add the temperature taskon top.

    My Sensor Won't Calibrate

After you've scanned your sensor and chosen your preferred location and tasks, the sensor will need to calibrate. At this point a lot of information is passed back and forth between the sensor and bridge. If the sensor is not calibrated then you might miss out on important notifications about your home. Try a few steps below to make sure your sensor calibrates correctly:

Make sure the sensor was not mistakenly added to your account. Click the sensor icon int he app and navigate to the sensors tab. Check to see if your sensor is listed there. If it is, click it, scroll to the bottom and click "delete sensor". Then trythe sensor installation process again.

Make sure the sensor is awake during calibration. Try the steps above to wake up your sensor and make sure you saw a green LED.

Try moving your bridge very close to the sensor and try calibrating again. You can move your bridge back after the sensor is calibrated.

Make sure your sensor is not blocked by anything that might cause interference during installation. This could include physical obstructions as well as other electronic devices that emit radio signals.

  • Testing Notion sensors is even easier than setting them up. In this article we'll go over to following:

Testing your door and window sensors

    Testing your leak detector sensors

    Testing your smoke alarm sensors

    Testing your temperature sensors

Testing Your Door and Window Sensors

Once a sensor is installed on a door to detect the door opening and closing, testing the sensor simply means opening and closing the door. If you have not adjusted your notification preferences then you will get an alert any time the door opens.

    Testing Your Leak Detector Sensors

To test your leak sensors, introduce a little water around the base of the sensor. The sensor will only detect the leak if water bridges the gap between the small brass pins on the bottom of the sensor. The sensor should push a notification almost immediately.

    Testing Your Smoke Alarm Sensors

Considering your local fire department recommends testing your smoke alarms on a regular basis, it is worth testing your smoke alarms alongsideyour Notion sensor smoke alarm. With the sensor installed, press the test button on your smoke alarm for at least 30 seconds. Your sensor will detect the alarm within the 30 second window and will push a notification right away.

    Testing Your Temperature Sensors

Unfortunately there is not a super easy way to test your temperature sensor. The sensor will begin reporting temperature as soon as it is set up. To test this function, simply check the home screen of your Notion app to make sure the sensor is reporting a temperature.

  • We want as many people as possible to have access to Notion and complete home awareness. Unfortunately there are some requirements to be able to take advantage of everything that Notion has to offer.

What do I need from Notion?

In order to effectively communicate with our servers, your Notion system requires at least one sensor and one bridge, as well as the Notion app on your smart phone. You will not be able to purchase only Notion sensors and set them up with a different smart hub or app.

What Kind Of Smart Phone Do I Need?

The Notion app runs on both iOS and Android devices that meet the following specs:

iPhone - running iOS 11.4 or newer

Android - running version 6.0or newer

Do I Need A WiFi Network? What Kind?

At this time the Notion bridge requires a WiFi network to communicate with our servers. Most modern WiFi routers are supported as long as they are backwards compatible with a few older standards. The Wi-Fi radio in the Notion Bridge works with 2.4GHz 802.11 b/g and n. It does not support 802.11ac or 5GHz networks.

    Other Requirements

The Notion Bridge requires an available AC power outlet (100 - 240VAC).

  • When the primary reason for installing Notion is awareness about the entrances to your home, make sure you think about your windows in addition to your doors. For the teenager trying to sneak home after curfew or the burglar trying to steal your things, a window is as much a viable option as the front door. Notion is a great solution because the same sensor that goeson your door is also capable of monitoring your window. To set up a window sensor, simply stick the sensor to your window, calibrate the sensor, and set up your notification preferences. The app will ask what type of window you have in the set up process so your sensor can know what motion to look for.

If you would like to know when your sliding window is opened or closed, you will need to add a sliding door/window accessory to the sensor. Follow the link here for more information on the sliding door/window accessory.

If you don't have the accessory, the sensor can't know if the window is actually open or closed. The sensor uses an accelerometer to check when the sensor is moving, but the hardware is not capable of remembering the location for the closed position.

Other adhesives (including temporary adhesives like command strips or velcro strips) may be too thick or thin, or interfere with Notion's performance and accuracy. And we'd hate to miss an alert or report inaccurate information!

While we can't guarantee the adhesive's fidelity after being removed from it's initial location, it may be able to be reused. It's important though that if it is reused, the brassdisc on the bottom of the device is still in flush contact with the new surface.

  • What Is It?

Notion has always offered peace of mind when it comes to your home. Be alerted when your doors open or the temperature gets below a certain threshold. Now with Instant Connect by Home Advisor, Notion can quickly connect you with a licensed plumber if your system ever notices a water leak.

    How Do I Use It?

Your Notion system will continue to function normally, and you will still receive alerts for things that occur in your home. Only now, if a Notion sensor detects a water leak, simply click "Contact a Qualified Plumber" in the alert to access the Home Advisor integration. The app will ask you for the name, email address and phone number of a contact person, and a plumber will call you through Home Advisor's service. If you are outside of the service area for Home Advisor's plumbers, then you will be connected with a call center for Home Advisor to assist you.

What If I Can't Talk To A Plumber Right Away?

Now let's say you're away from home when a Notion sensor detects a leak. That may not be the most opportune moment to talk to a plumber! Instead, have your neighbor turn off the main water supply to your home to prevent any further damage. Then once you get home you can access the Home Advisor integration separately to find a plumber.

Simply click the small gear icon in the bottom right of the Notion app to access the settings page. Then click the "Integrations" tab and then click "Connect To Home Advisor". This will take you through the same process to connect with a licensed plumber.

  • Yes! While there is not a specific way in the Notion app to dedicate different sensors to different locations, it is absolutely possible to install sensors wherever you would like as long as there is a bridge set up within a reasonable range.

To set up a second bridge, tap on the 'System' icon in the Notion app, and then tap on the 'Bridges' tab. Tap on the 'Add Bridge' button and follow the prompts to connect your bridge and add it to your system.

Once your new bridge is set up, then you can add your sensors. Again, tap on the 'System' icon and go to the 'Sensors' tab. Tap on 'Add Sensor' and follow the step by step instructions. When you choose the 'Location' for your sensor, we suggest scrolling down and selecting 'Other' - which will allow you to enter a custom name for that sensor. The custom location name for your sensors that will allow you to know which sensors are in which location. For example, we have had some users use the title "Breck front door" for their system in Breckenridge, Colorado and then "ATL front door" for their system in Atlanta, Georgia.

Be aware, when you have multiple systems set up in multiple locations the notification preferences for home and away mode does not always work. This is because the Notion app will only let you set one location as your home location. In most cases we suggest that users turn on all alerts for all of their sensors when they set up Notion in multiple locations. This way youwon'tmiss any important information from your Notion system!

Our developers are working on big changes for Notion that will allow you to set two separate locations as home so that you can continue to customize your alerts for your primary home and your vacation home.

  • Moving Your Sensors

Moving your sensors is an easy process. Simply remove it and re-stick it to the new location. We can't guaranteethat you will be able to reuse the adhesive, but you may be able to as long as the copper disk on the bottom of the sensor makes a strong contact with the new surface. If you need replacement adhesives to move your system, contact our support desk for help.

After you've reinstalled your sensors, you will need to delete and re-add the tasks to recalibrate them, and rename your sensors for the new location.

    Moving Your Bridge

After your bridge is set up, simply unplug it and then plug it in wherever you chose. The bridge will boot up and automatically reconnect to your WiFi network and sensors.

What If Someone Else Moves Your System?

For sensors that are detecting motion tasks, someone else moving the sensor will most likely trigger a motion alert. This will let you know if someone tries to tamper with a sensor that is monitoring doors and windows. Otherwise you will get notifications when a sensor goes offline or if your bridge goes offline.

  • Due to changes in Apples policy, Notion is notHomekit compliant.

Notion is a great fit for the connectivity and service that HomeKit offers, but in the end Apple is not supporting cloud-based solutions. In short, we did everything we could for HomeKit compliance - we tried implementing adjustments, adding more functionality to the bridge, optimizing architecture - all to no avail, unfortunately.

What does this mean? We are a Home Automation Accessory to iPhone which means that Apple has verified both the quality and stability of Notion. What wewon'tbe able to offer is checking the status of Notion via Siri and a few other features that HomeKit offers. With that said, we feel very confident Notion will still adds a tremendous value without Homekit.

  • Notion is designed to work in tandem with your traditional smoke detector. In order to maximize the versatility of Notion Sensors, we designed them to listen for the beep from your existing smoke alarm. Sensors use a piezoelectric speaker that can feel vibrations to detect a specific frequency and volume close to your smoke alarm.

See: Is Notion Constantly Listening Or Recording Sound?

This means that Notion is not actually detecting smoke to trigger the smoke alarm task. It also means that the sensor cannot detect other gas leaks like carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, natural gas or radon. There is some possibility that Notion may be able to detect an alarm from carbon monoxide detectors or other gas leak monitors, but currently the sensor is optimized for smoke detectors.Notion is not designed to replace your smoke or CO detector.
