Marcia E. Backus — Chief Compliance Officer, Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Occidental Petroleum Corporation

Ms. Marcia E. Backus has been Chief Compliance Officer at Occidental Petroleum Corporation since 2015 and as its General Counsel since October 1, 2013 and served as its Company Secretary since July 2014 until 2016. Ms. Backus served as Vice President of Occidental Petroleum Corporation from October 1, 2013 to 2015. Ms. Backus has been Senior Vice President at Occidental Petroleum Corporation since May 2014. Before joining Occidental in 2013, she was a Partner at Vinson & Elkins LLP, heading the law firm's Energy Transactions/Projects Practice Group and serving in key leadership positions. She was a Co-Administrative Partner at Vinson & Elkins and is its Lawyer. Ms. Backus has a broad-based energy transactional practice, representing major energy industry players in domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments and other corporate transactions, project finance and complex partnership and llc transactions. She also has extensive experience in energy marketing and trading and renewables. Her energy transactional experience includes representing buyers and sellers of power generation facilities, energy trading businesses, natural gas pipelines and crude oil pipelines, oil and gas properties, processing and other midstream assets and oil field service companies. She represents several private equity companies in their investments in the energy sector. Recently, she has represented private equity investors in a variety of renewable and other non-conventional energy projects, including biodiesel, biomass and coal gasification projects. She as a leader in her fields of practice by numerous publications, she has been listed among The Best Lawyers in America since 2003 in corporate, energy, oil and gas and project finance and as one of Chambers USA's America's Leading Business Lawyers from 2005 to 2006.
