Common questions
Can multiple referral credits be applied to one bill?
Yes! It’s possible to have a bill of $0 every month if you earn enough referrals.
What happens if I earn more referral credits than a month of Philo costs?
Your referrals will accumulate and be applied to subsequent bills.
How can I tell if anyone has used my referral link?
Anyone who has used your referral link to start a free trial will show up as Pending on your Referrals page. If they elect to subscribe to Philo at the end of their trial, their status will update to Complete.
How will I know when a referral is successful and I’ve earned a credit?
You’ll be notified via email and a green $5 credit will appear on your Account page online under Billing History.
If I pause my subscription, will I lose any credits I’ve earned? Or will they still be there if I come back?
Unused credits remain valid for 6 months if you’ve canceled your account.

To access the Admin Dashboard, navigate to [your deployment].philo.com/dashboard and log in with your credentials. You will be brought to the Home page, where you will see three graphs:
The Active Users graph shows your system’s usage in the last 24 hours. It measures the number of users at a given time. As such, an average of twenty viewers at a time might actually equate to several hundred users in a day. Also note that this area chart stacks viewers of live content with viewers of recorded content. Therefore, the cumulative peak represents the total number of viewers, the number of live content viewers is equal to the blue y-value, and the number of recorded content viewers is equal to the green y-value minus the blue y-value.
The Network Usage graph is fairly straightforward - it shows the megabits per second of Philo’s network usage.
The Top 5 Channels graph shows viewership of your campus’s five most viewed channels over the past ten hours.
Notice
On this page, you will see any “Current Notice” posted on your system as well as the dialog for scheduling a new notice. A few things to note about the notices:
“Type” simply refers to the color that you choose to make the notice. We have labeled each of the colors with a type; i.e., Info (blue), Warning (orange), Error (red), and Success (green).
The “Subject” will appear directly to the left of the notice in a bold text. We recommend adding a colon after your subject to better differentiate between subject and message.
You will determine the duration of this notice under “From” and “Until.” Note that this means you can schedule notices to appear in the future.
Finally, write the intended notice under “Message.”
Click “Post Notice”
Channels
On this page, you will see a read-only view of all channels offered at your deployment. Though you are not able to directly edit this page, you can contact your account manager to add or change a channel for you.
Logos
This is where we store the logos for each channel as they look on both light (white) and dark (black) backgrounds. If you have a local origination channel that you wish to have a unique logo, you need to send us a vector of that logo to be stored here.
Encoders
You will see each of your deployment’s encoders listed at the top of this page. Underneath those are all of the channels offered at your deployment. Under each channel, you will see its callsign, which encoder it is assigned to, the address of that channel, how many restarts it has had that day, the number of bytes that have come in since the channel’s last restart, and the channel’s uptime since the last restart. For more in-depth information on how to read the encoders page and assess the source of an issue at your deployment, check out this article.
Finally, there are two buttons beneath each channel: RESET CHANNELand WATCH. One would click RESETto resolve an audio/visual sync issue on that channel. The WATCHis a way to view what the feed looks like to end users with a single click.
Usage Reports
On this page you will be able see and download Philo Edu usage data.
The report shown below will display usage data from the previous calendar month. We define an "active user" as someonewho has logged into the service and either watched 30+ seconds of content OR recorded a program to watch later.
On the left is a list of previous usage reports by calendar month. Select a month to update the report displayed on your browser, or select "Download All" to download a .csv file of the data.
Finally, at the top of the page, you can download a .csv of aggregated usage data in a custom timeframe going back no further than the current calendar year (e.g. OnJanuary 15, 2020, custom reports can only go as far back as January 1, 2020). Use the dropdown menu to select the start & end dates and click "Download."
If you have any questions about usage data, please submit a ticket on our NOC portal and our support team will be happy to assist!
Graphs
The Graphs page will look similar to the Homepage, but you have much more control over the data you see on this page. You can view 10 different data points over the past 6 hours, 1 day, or 1 week.
Rokus
Under “Assigned Rokus” you will see all of the Rokus registered at your deployment.
For an in-depth tutorial on managing common area Rokus, .
Profile
We use this page chiefly for testing the authorization of users. To do this, you:
Enter the student’s .edu email under the bold Search and click ‘Search’
Click on the ID associated with the correct user
Click ‘Test AuthZ’
This will either return “Authz test returned true” or “Authz test returned false”
In the event that a user fails authorization, but we suspect that they meet all of the requirements, we can temporarily override their failed authorization for 24 hours while they are waiting to be added to the whitelist.
Another feature of the Profile page is the ability to impersonate individual users. We use this feature to reproduce recording issues.
