Executive Bio

Mr. William O. Nicholson, also known as Bill has been the Senior Vice President of Customer Service, Transmission & Distribution at Portland General Electric Company since April 18, 2011. Mr. Nicholson is responsible for PGE's Distribution Operations, which encompass system planning and engineering, substation maintenance and construction, safety, as well as PGE's three regional distribution areas that provide system improvements and reliability across PGE's entire 4,000-square-mile operating area. Mr. Nicholson serves as Vice President of Distribution Operations at Portland General Electric Company. Mr. Nicholson served as Vice President of PGE's distribution area at Portland General Electric Company since August 1, 2009. Mr. Nicholson served as a Vice President of Customers and Economic Development at Portland General Electric Company from May 1, 2007 to August 1, 2009. Mr. Nicholson served as General Manager of PGE's Western region line operations, began working for PGE in 1980 as a Shift Technical Adviser at the Trojan Nuclear Plant. He has five years prior in distribution operations, as well as 21 years in generation engineering and resource development experience. Mr. Nicholson served two years as vice president of Customers & Economic Development where he focused on service to all customer markets, economic development, renewable power sales and internet strategy. Mr. Nicholson joined PGE in 1980 as an engineer at the Trojan Plant and has served in a variety of capacities in Distribution Operations, Generation Engineering and Resource Development. Mr. Nicholson served on the boards of a number of community organizations, including current service on the board of Associated Oregon Industries, Oregon BEST (Built Environment & Sustainable Technologies) and Earth Advantage, an Oregon-based nonprofit that promotes sustainability and conservation by helping builders apply green-building principles. A registered professional engineer, he belongs to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. Mr. Nicholson is Oregon State University graduate. He earned a bachelor of science degree in nuclear engineering from Oregon State University in 1980 and has successfully completed the Harvard University Program on Negotiation, the Utility Executive program from the University of Idaho and the American Leadership Forum, where he serves as a senior fellow.
