View ArticleAt Ragnar, we believe in miles. We believe the first mile, the last mile, and every mile in between teaches us something about our teammates, our humanity and ourselves. Most importantly, we believe in going the extra mile. Each Ragnarian has gone the extra mile at one time or another. Some run an additional leg for an injured teammate. Some offer water or words of encouragement to a struggling stranger. Still others literally carry their teammates across the finish line. The Ragnar Extra Mile Program is inspired by this generosity and compassion. Our runners have demonstrated what teamwork means and the Ragnar Extra Mile Program extends that philosophy to our host communities.

It is suggested that regular teams use two vehicles to make it easier, although a single vehicle is permitted if there is room and a seat belt for all passengers, and the vehicle adheres to all local safety laws. Ultra teams may choose to use one or two vehicles, however the recommendation is the one vehicle.

View ArticleAlong the course there will be a variety of course signs (directional signage, leg signs, informational signs) communicating to the runner in which direction they need to go, on what side of the road they need to run, which exchange they are at etc.
At night, all signs have blinking LEDs to draw your attention and make them visible.
You must run up to the sign (touching distance) before following the instructions.
An example of this signage can be found in the Race Bible.

You are only visible to drivers closer the 200 feet away in dark conditions, but with an approved reflective vest this increases to up to 1200 feet, and with headlamps and flashing LED taillights, visibility and safety increases further.
Detailed safety information can be found in the Race Bible.
View ArticleYes. Ragnar is a team relay, which means regardless of whether you run on a team with advanced runners, beginners, or a mix, you will run your own three legs at your pace. If you want more of a challenge you can run a harder set of legs that add up to 15 20+ miles, or if you want to take it easy you can run an easier set of legs that add up to 11 15 miles.
If you fancy more miles, you can also run Ragnar as an Ultra team. Ultra teams run twice the legs (6 legs instead of 3) and twice the mileage (22 35+ miles)

View ArticleThe use of personal music devices with headphones while running is strongly discouraged. If you still choose to use them, you do so at your own risk and must meet the following requirements:
You must be able to hear traffic
Be aware of the sounds around you
Be able to hear instructions from course officials when speaking at a reasonable tone (not yelling)

View ArticleThere are several ways a charity partner can get involved. There are often opportunities to get involved and fundraise in multiple ways at our races. We encourage each charity partner to take on the amount they feel they will be successful in staffing and resources. We want to ensure that our charity partners do not feel overwhelmed. There is always opportunity for growth and increasing involvement in a future year.
Below are the Extra Mile programs partnering charity involvement options:
Team Fundraising - A charity partner commits to recruiting X amount of teams for a specific event. Each team is asked to fundraise; individually or as a team, a minimum amount set by the charity. The charity/participants can utilise their preferred fundraising platform or one provided by Ragnar.
Below are a few examples of guidelines set for team fundraising:
From a team fundraising aspect we are looking for guidelines such as below to ensure fundraising success for your charity:
- If a team commits to fundraise with a charity, Ragnar suggests a charity to set a fundraising minimum no less than 2,000 minimum in fundraising (as a team). This helps to offset the operational cost of the charity purchasing the team entry and allows for fundraising money as well.
-You all will be provided with a code to get into the race registration page and we will work together to get a fundraising page up and running for your team or for each team that is fundraising for you.
-There are also options to incentivise people to go way above the fundraising minimums. Ragnar has tool kit items to assist with fundraising, as well as the support of our fundraising partner X, who has superb customer service representatives, support and webinars to assist with fundraising questions etc.
On course exchange activation
There are major and minor exchanges a part of each of our road races. At these exchanges there is opportunity for a charity partner to set up a tent and sell items for donation. This can include fruit, bagels and coffee, Gatorade and water, bake sale, pancake breakfast etc. The charity is responsible for providing all of the volunteers and the supplies for the fundraising activation. Charity partners more often than not are able to get donations of food items in order to offset costs and bring in more fundraising dollars.
We encourage signs be made by the charity to promote all proceeds going to the charity in turn for the product being sold. As well as having materials out about the cause and a take away item for the participants to have the opportunity to support then or in the future.
Hosting a Finish Line Beer Garden
There is an opportunity at some Ragnar events to host the finish line Beer Garden as a way to fundraise. At the finish line, there is a beer garden where host charities in the U.S. have raised significant funds
Contact us to find out more.
Provide volunteers at Exchanges
Some of our eventsdon'toffer this option. Your Market Development contact can confirm with the Ragnar Volunteer Department to confirm there is an opportunity to provide volunteers in exchange for fundraising money provided by Ragnar. This is another great way an organisation can raise funds in exchange for volunteer service along our course. This is an option in addition to the athletic fundraising of team based donations as suggested above.
If a charity partner chooses to both host an activation and food sales in addition to providing volunteers at an exchange for donations, additional volunteers are needed for the activation on top of the required number of volunteers needed to run the exchange.
Please email our team if you have any questions or would like to get involved. We are happy to help and hope we can work with you all to fundraise as much as possible for your wonderful cause.
View ArticleRagnar is a legendary hero of Norse Mythology. He was a larger-than-life explorer, adventurer and wildman. We are the modern caretakers of Ragnar's legacy and aspire to the same free-spirited, tenacious and fearless life that he lived.
Ragnarians embrace the freedom to explore, to conquer and to seek the extraordinary. We contend that a little sleep deprivation is a small price to pay to watch the sun rise with our friends. We propose that within all of us is the potential for true greatness. Within each of us is Ragnar.
As a tribe, we see life differently. We're not as worried about our finish time as we are about finishing... together. We'll stop running to give water to a stranger at 3 am. We will dance on top of a van in a rather unflattering spandex body suit if that is what it takes to get our teammate to the finish line. We will lift ourselves out of a deep sleep just to cheer on our teammates as they run by. Vans without decoration look naked and, to us, a neon tutu will make anybody a little bit sexier.
We are a tribe of wild, vibrant adventurers of all skill levels who just want to help each other appease their voracious appetite for exploration and feed their sense of wonder.

View ArticleMajor exchanges 20 and 25 will typically be reached during night / early morning hours, and will contain designated sleeping areas.
Please note that these areas will often be outside, however where possible will be located inside. No one is allowed to sleep on the ground in areas outside of the official sleeping area.
You may wish to look at the route and times you expect to be swapping at major exchanges, and use the time in between to travel to a nearby hotel for a couple of hours rest. Read through the Race Bible and event page on the website to determine the major exchange locations.
View ArticleSigning up for a Ragnar is signing up for a 170-ish mile, overnight, unforgettable adventure. Youll get a world class experience as you run on roads, bike paths, road shoulders and pavements along the course. Youll have access to portaloos, sleeping areas, exchange zones for parking at the handoff locations and medics if needed. To top it all off, youll get a shirt and medal so that you can brag about your accomplishment long after its over.
View ArticleAlmost anyone can run Ragnar with a little bit of training. Running a Reebok Ragnar Relay is most comparable to running a half marathon; except that you run it in three segments with breaks in between. We provide a 12-week training programme for beginner and intermediate runners. With a little bit of training you can run Ragnar like a boss. See the training page on the website for more details.
View ArticleAll safety rules and guidelines can be found in the Race Bible, and we require you to read through to ensure that when you are the on runner you are safe on the route.
Runners must run against the traffic on all live roads, using pavements or trails where available, unless Ragnar signs direct you otherwise.
Remember that in order to follow instructions given on race signage, you must run up to the sign (close enough to tough it) and then follow the direction/instruction stated.
View ArticleIf you have an early start time, you may wish to look at booking accommodation near to the start line of your race. Check the Race Bible for the location of your start.

View ArticlePile teams into vans or cars and tag team 170-ish miles, day and night, relay-style over two days and one night. Only one runner hits the road at a time. Each participant runs three times, with each leg ranging between 3-13 miles and varying in difficulty. Runners average about 17 total miles, with some of the shorter runner positions totalling 11 miles and some of the longer runner positions totalling 24 miles. Ultra-runners take on 6 legs each, and average a full marathon (26+ miles).
While one person is running, the rest of your teammates are on support duty in your race vehicles. Teams of 10 require two vehicles (Runners 1-5 in Vehicle One and 6 -10 in Vehicle Two). Vehicle One's runners will cover the first five legs. As each runner begins, the crew in the vehicle can drive ahead, cheer their runner on and meet them at the exchange point to pick them up and drop off the next runner. After the first 5 legs, Vehicle Two gets their chance to shine and starts putting in the miles.
Once your vehicles runners finish the five legs, you can enjoy downtime, get food, maybe sleep, and then drive ahead to the major exchange point to wait for your other vehicle to finish their five legs. All that stuff above? Yeah you get to do it two more times.
View ArticleNo. Well maybe. But not as crazy as you think! Almost anyone can do Ragnar with a little bit of training. Ragnar is a 24-hour team relay in which teams of 10 runners each take turns running sections or legs of a 170-ish miles route. Only one runner hits the road at a time. Each participant runs three times, with each leg ranging between 3 11 miles and varying in difficulty. Runners average about 17 total miles, with some of the shorter runner positions totalling 11 miles and some of the longer positions totalling 25 miles. Ultra teams take on 6 legs each, and average a full marathon (26+ marathon)
Most teams will take about 24 hours to finish and teams run straight through the night. Most runners will run their first leg during the day, their second leg at night (with a headlamp and reflective vest) and their third leg the next day. Its like a slumber party without sleep and loads of running!
We provide a 12-week training programme for beginner and intermediate runners. With a little bit of training you can run Ragnar like a boss. See the training page on the website for more details.

View ArticleMost Ragnar Relays are staged on open roads. The nature of the race, being 170 miles and running through many different towns and counties, means that we would be unable to close the entire route. In many places, however, you will be able to run on paved paths, and there may be sections that are run on trails. Occasionally we will close a small section of road should it be paramount to runner safety.
Safety is our number one priority, and we ask you to take appropriate precautions and focus on being a safe runner. You will receive a mandatory safety briefing the day of the event, and can find all rules and safety guidelines in the Race Bible.
View ArticleRoad Relays are made up of two different team types, Regular and Ultra.
Regular teams consist of 10 runners, andthere are three divisions in the Regular Team category (Open, Over 40/M40 and Over 50/M50) and three classifications within each division (Mens, Womens and Mixed). To qualify for the mixed division, teams must have a minimum split of 3 and 7. To be in the womens division the team must have a minimum of 8 women, and to be a mens team you must have at least 8 men.
The same divisions exist for the Ultra Teams (Open, Over 40 and Over 50) and three classifications within each division (Mens, Womens and Mixed). To qualify for the mixed division teams must have a split of at least 2 and 3. To be in the womens division the team must have 4 female runners minimum, and to be in the mens division must have a minimum of 4 male runners.

View ArticleMost people have at least one friend or acquaintance who is a runner. If not, you should, because runner buddies are the best! We suggest you recruit a co-captain to help you put together a team. If your co-captain can find one runner and you can find one runner, you will be nearly half way there.
From there, encourage your new teammates to recruit friends, family and co-workers. Keep in mind that anyone can run Ragnar with a little bit of training. Youd be surprised how many people you know who are actually runners or are looking to get into running and just waiting for the right event.
After all that, if you are still short a runner or two, post on the Ragnar Relay UK Facebook Page. Runners are always looking for teams on Facebook.
View ArticleParticipants must be 16 years of age in order to take part. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign a waiver please contact UK customer service for this waiver.
Any vehicle with one or more participant under the age of 18 must also have at least 1 adult (25 or older) preferably serving as a driver or safety officer in the vehicle. The individual over 25 doesn't have to be a runner, but can be.
Those under 16 years of age are prohibited, but Ragnar will consider formal requests for extraordinary circumstances through the customer service team.

We want everyone on your team to have the best opportunity to run and enjoy the full course. If it looks like you may not all finish on time, we have procedures that we might deploy to help you along. Inaccurate Paces
Start times were assigned based on your teams average 10k ROAD race pace. So, if any of the runners paces are listed incorrectly this would affect the teams start time. Team captains should review their runners paces on their team page and have any runners correct inaccuracies. Note that Chrome and is most compatible with our website.
