What's the pay like for Engineering roles at rateGenius, Inc.?
Not as competitive compared to the greater Austin area. Austin is one of the nation's high-tech hubs, and you can (relatively) easily find competitive pay. RG is below the average, but not by a huge amount. I got a $17K bump leaving there just from a salary standpoint. I have definitely worked at worst places, so don't let salary be your only determinate.
It's in the ballpark for Austin, but definitely on the lower end of "competitive". I enjoyed my time working there, but (inclusive of benefits) I saw almost a $30K bump upon leaving.
What's one thing you wish you'd known before joining rateGenius, Inc.?
The company values expediency (e.g., "the next sale") far more than long-term infrastructure sustainability. It's certainly not a toxic workplace, but if you're in technology, there's plenty more opportunities in the Austin area to choose from.
How's the leadership on the Engineering team at rateGenius, Inc.?
It was good, IMO but they canned someone who was really making a difference. I don't think I'd return without that leadership if the opportunity arose.
What are you most excited about working at rateGenius, Inc.?
Top Employee Response
My co-workers and my boss.
What benefits does rateGenius, Inc. provide?
Better than nothing, but not great. If you have good benefits now, be prepared to spend a lot more for coverage. Consider things in the category of "catastrophic".
What are your coworkers at rateGenius, Inc. like?
Top Employee Response
Everyone I worked with had a great attitude. No prima donnas, so self-proclaimed rock-stars. Good team cohesiveness. One of the best parts of the job.
What's the office vibe like at rateGenius, Inc.?
If you're looking for exciting, cutting-edge software projects, you'll probably be disappointed. In fact, an engineering manager was let go recently for (IMO) being too forward-looking. I would not, however, call this a toxic workplace. However, be prepared to have priorities, objectives, and assignments shift almost daily. If you thrive on interrupt-driven software development, this may be the place for you. The engineering department itself doesn't have too much drama, but some of the rest of the company's politics bleed over.
What do employees at rateGenius, Inc. think about their benefits?
rateGenius, Inc. employees rate their overall benefits a C- and most of them think the perks are Bad. 60% of rateGenius, Inc. employees say they are satisfied with their benefits.
